  • why hasn't anyone else thought of a bag that can be packed in to your carryon and then filled with crap on your way home?!?!?!!!!

If you search 'foldable travel bags', you can find these type of bags by a number of different brands like Korjo, Samsonite/American Tourister, Patagonia, and even Ikea. On eBay there are several cheaper options like these. Does anyone know the main difference between these types of bags and Eagle Creek's offering (which seems to be a bit higher priced?) I'm guessing there's a difference in quality, although the reviews on Eagle Creek's site are so and so.

I've got an Eagle Creek suitcase and about 17 million of their packing cubes and all of their stuff is excellent quality and has a lifetime guarantee. So if you just want a light overnight duffel bag the ikea offering would be fine but if you want it for travel or outdoor activites where durability is key this would be a far more reliable option.

  • Katmandu has a few of these as well. I have a backpack one and standard bag one. They are good to dump in your bag if you are out shopping and think you need to carry extra stuff home. Back in the day when books were cheap in America and expensive here we used to buy a light duffel bag in America to bring all the books home with us.

  • Decent looking bag for sure. Of course the size and colour I want is gone haha.

This is a good quality soft-sided bag for travelling. Perfect size for safaris to Africa where they restrict your luggage size and insist on soft-sided luggage (ie no hard cases, no wheels and frames). If you get to somewhere you can unpack your luggage, it folds up and stows away fairly small in a little storage bag.

As mentioned you can take it with you folded up, then use it as a sturdy bag to bring back stuff you buy on holidays, it will be much better checked in than the ultra thin or cheap ones. If you're after a packable bag that can be used for checked in luggage, this is great. If you're after a really small light packable bag to carry with you or on carry-on, look at the Sea To Summit Ultra-Sil backpack or duffel, they are tiny and light.
