I've always liked the look of these. Are they quality or cheapies?

I have an older Casio Edifice and it's a pretty good watch with lots of functionality. The thing has been very good for the 5 or so years I've owned it. At the end of the day, it's still a Quartz movement so it isn't anything super special, but this one for $99 looks pretty nice.

At the end of the day, it's still a Quartz movement so

it's more accurate and more reliable than a mechanical watch.

Not disagreeing with you on that one, just wanted to point it out because some people might be unaware of the movement or think that it must be mechanical because it's a more premium Casio.

        • Quartz movements are far cheaper to manufacture than automatic and mechanical movements, hence the price.

Once you get past a certain price the case, crystal, bracelet etc in a auto/mech tend to improve, whereas quartz watches generally have smaller improvements. This is why the majority of luxury high end watches are auto/mech with a smattering of quartz.

        • @ilikeit: I figure it's because the higher the price, the more it's a fashion statement and less a functional device.

@macrocephalic: …that's a never ending debate which neither of us have to stamina to do on this post. I will however mention that there are certain occupations that require a specific higher spec time piece that costs $. Like going to the moon or saturation diving.

I have omega seamaster auto and a quartz, the service on the auto is $700 every 5 years, it's to ensure it remains lubed so no wear. The auto is a $70 battery change and pressure test or $120 if it needed a new mechanism. Auto has the appeal of a sweeping hand , 3 sweeps to second, quartz seems cheaper as it's one sweep per second like a $50 watch. Same case similar price $2500 vs $3000 different show off factor ….

I pressume these cheap autos are throw away and never get serviced.

I prefer quartz as more accurate and less service.

I was going to buy it but seen it's available for around that price in different colours so decided not to. I'll keep saving for a steinfart

    Thanks for sharing

Just a heads up - I doubt this watch is 53mm diameter, it will more likely be around 47mm or smaller.

When Casio state their specs like this - Size of case : 53×47×11.8mm, then the larger size usually represents the distance from lug to lug, or some may call it the height. Casio Website This review on Amazon says it's more like 44 to 45mm

Edit - Rep has now corrected the specs.

    • So what is the actual size? Oversized 53mm, 47mm or 44mm diameter?

      • +2

Starbuy has just added this to the description - Bezel Diameter 44mm
And they change the Specs page to - Case Diameter : 44mm

Excellent, so the specs I copy pasted are correct :) thanks!

I have skinny guy wrists and anything over 40mm looks like a sundial :(
    my watch envy is real

Lucky I pulled the trigger on this one within an hour of OP.

I had a feeling the lovely Edifice Chronograph EFR-553D-1B would sell out quickly, not surprised either.

Reputable store (I've purchased from 4 times now), 2 Years Au Warranty, Full Retail Box + Tags and $0 FAST shipping… not to mention an excellent price.

Cheers OP, very happy with this find!
