Different Prices (for same item) by Domayne - What Can I Do after Deposit Is Paid?

Major screw up today by me by not working out the discounted price earlier.
I went to a Domayne store to purchased a sofa and was temped by the 30% off they had for mothers day promotion.
I put a deposit down for one of their sofa, they had it listed at $3299 according to the catalogue but the instore pricing was $3499 (on the stand).

3499 x 30% off is $2449
3299 x 30% off is $2309
Losing around $140

The invoice I got after discount was $2449

Is there anything I can do i this situation?

  • Yes, go back tomorrow and show them the catalogue.

  • go in and talk to them about the price difference.

and maybe change the title —-> Different Prices (for same item) by Domayne - What Can I Do after Deposit Is Paid?

  • yup, will be heading in tomorrow morning but would it be legal for them to say something along the line of either buy it at this price or lose 20% of your deposit due to cancellation?

well, legally you agreed to buy it at $3499 x 30% off - $2449.
so as a contract has been entered in to….

but they may be cool about it when you take the catalogue in. most sales people are reasonable.

did you pay for it with a Credit Card that has a price protection insurance deal?

      • deposit was paid with a credit card with price protection but only a deposit was paid.

  • If the catalogue is current then they cannot have dual pricing. Raise it with them and I'm surd ACCC website will have more info on dual pricing

    • yeah, catalogue ends 28th of May

Major screw up today by me by not working out the discounted price earlier.

Don't worry, it's actually the store's fault for having inconsistent prices in the catalogue and in store. Go back tomorrow and challenge them the inconsistency.

  • Went in and said the catalogue price and displayed prices are different. They said they don't follow the catalogue prices as they are a franchise. Also said that the 30% off mother's day promotion cannot be stacked with any other promotions, including catalogue price and it's 30% off the RRP price and not the catalogue.

However, the catalogue price doesn't say it was a sale item, just everyday price.
