Looking for Wired Portable Speaker for iPod and Mobile Phone

It's my daughter's birthday soon, and she says that she wants a portable speaker for her mobile phone and iPod. It has to be wired, with a 3.5mm stereo plug.

I was in Officeworks today for something else, and they seem to have many portable speakers, but for prices between a few tens of dollars and a few hundred dollars. The trouble is that I have no idea what's good and what's not, nor what a reasonable price is. I found a few portable speaker comparison reviews online, but most are for Bluetooth speakers, and the rest don't seem to align very well with what can be purchased in Australia.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

    JBL Flip III (3).
As cheap as $60, as expensive as $120.

Has the best sound out of all other speakers…. well for its size.
If you buy two, they can connect together to Double the Sound.
Fits into the cup holders of a car/coke can size.
    It's light enough 450g.
Has a lanyard, and a range of colours.
It's water resistant (can handle the shower, but not the pool).
    Has a decent (3,000mAh) battery life, ~9hrs.
Connects easily to both Android and iOS via Bluetooth.

    Has a 3.5mm Aux port.

As others have said most if not all bluetooth speakers have 3.5mm inputs (you might need to buy a 3.5mm male to male cable however which can go from $1 from ebay to $20 in stores)

The cheapest one in brick and mortar stores would probably be the Logitech x50. $15 plus $5.06 delivery at good guys on their ebay store or $28 at Harvey Norman.

The jbl flip 3 and Logitech ue roll 2 would be the next step up and will be around $70-$100. There is also a Logitech x300 for about that price.

If you don't mind buying online then you can also consider the bluedio bs3 which can be had for $40 from ebay from Australian sellers.

I think any of those are good but depends on your budget and preferred size (they are quite different in portability-some can be clipped onto bags and others will need to sit on a table)

x50 is the winner here since it's portable & easily fit into your pocket (or you can hang it onto belt using carabiner/velcro tape, etc) & that is what I'm currently using plus a $2.80 retracable male to male stereo jack from Daiso.
