Telstra HTC Desire $39/Month (with Telstra Landline) + 500MB Data + $200 Welcoming Credit

330

The other day, I called Telstra to buy $49 HTC Desire, I wanted to port my number from TPG as well, In reply the guy told me that if you join us over the phone (i.e order to telstra HQ) we will give you a $200 welcoming credit + if you have telstra landline we will give another $10 discount on top of it, I couldn't beleive initially but now I have received my first bill and they have actually given me $200 credit which reduces my contract total to $976/24month. Also they are giving me $10 discount on telstra landline homeline plus which brings it down to $19.95 (You can think the other way round i.e. pay 29.95 on landline and $39 on desire).

Until now, thats the best deal I have ever found in terms of a mobile phone. What do u think guys/gals?

This offer is only available if you buy over the phone, you can not get it in any T-Life shop.

    how much call/text credit?

  • Arghhh!!!!!!!!!

  • I'd use 500mb in a week!

Telstra data plans, although improved, still leave a lot to be desired!! Heheh.

If you have an ABN, you currently can get 3GB for just $10/month more on the Telstra $49 Business Cap with iPhone 4, HTC Desire or Nokia N97 mini. I think it's great value, particularly considering the coverage and speed of the NextG network. :)

You can remove the data allowance from the plan and add one of Telstra's data packs at "half price".

That should make 3GB around $54 (total cost per month within cap) on this offer (bundled with a landline), I think.

      See: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/30093

      • That's good value! How long does a half price pack last? Life of contract?

I really wish I knew this when I signed a contract for my partner a few weeks ago.. :(

  • It's pretty good but I've been spoilt by a life without contracts on TPG for too long to ever walk back into a contract. Maybe 12 months but not 24.

    • You r right, i was doing the same but in the past TPG was not giving any data and I wanted to buy DESIRE desperately and it is nothing without data. TPG is offering $20 line rent at least but by just paying $29 more/24 months I got a free DESIRE + all the above mentioned :)

      • Yeah that makes sense. Sorry I forgot to +1 this deal, have now done so. It's good, not for me personally but still a good deal :)

  • good deal!

  • Meh. Normal deal.

If you have a home service with Telstra it is an automatic $10 discount, and $200 welcome credit is normal too, if you ask for it.

For the included data calls and data, that's pretty excellent, but it's not "the best deal!"

Nothing (yet) has beaten the TF2OFFER, $10/month min spend cap + $10/month phone repayment (after MRO rebate) + $70 upfront = $550 total over 24 months for the HTC Desire.

If you're purely referring to the phone, it's brilliant, so safe and easy to acquire root and a large community for (Froyo and other) ROMs.
The HTC Desire from Telstra is also unlocked.

This offer is probably to compete with the iPhone4, particularly the recent deal from JB HiFi offering a $100(?) gift card when signing up (also Telstra).

ssa: Do Telstra stock HTC Desire with the Super LCD screen yet? (instead of AMOLED, due to shortages)

    • As far as I know, I have got one with AMOLED screen and they didn't tell me any shortage about the screen and the the deal you have mentioned doesn't have much freedom to call, it seems you have to pay the full rate of the call instead of getting a call value like $400 or something

      • Nah, it's capped at $39 and after that it includes $400 of cap value.

I use a $1 TPG SIM anyway. Suits me fine. :)

    • Yeah, while a good deal the TF2OFFER had a lot of drawbacks, data was an issue, and that was on a 39 cap so each month could easily go up to $49 a month if you use $39 or more in calls.
This one you're unlikely to go over $39 a month and get $200 bonus credit and 500mb of data, very nice deal.
Now to see about cancelling out of my virgin contract early..

    • i think the new desires come with the SLCD.

    • TF2OFFER is this still available?

      • I was interested in this too, but alas it appears to have expired back in June :(

But if anyone knows better then please correct me.

  • I think the plan you are talking is the $49 Next G cap plan. Which will show on the bill as $39 for the $400 worth of calls and $10 for 200MB data & currently Telstra is giving 300MB bonus (for thr $49Cap) bring it to a total of 500MB.
Not really sure if all agents will offer $200 welcome credit.

    • I think it should be a standard policy for everyone who buys from Telstra HQ (i.e. over the phone)

  • Damn tempting.. I would rather an iphone 4 but the plans are pathetic. I have my 3G on a $29 plan that suits me perfectly, the new $29 plan pales in comparison. 500mb is plenty of data!! I get 250mb and use my phone heavily and only gone over once in 2 and a half years..

$39 a month is pretty good value for all that.. will need to take a good look at the Desire and see if its worth getting over iphone.

  • Does the $200 welcoming credit just mean you get an extra $200 worth of credit for the first month or am I way off the mark?

    • +1

I believe it's a credit towards your bill, not cap.

So essentially after you've received the $200 credit on your bill, if you don't go over the $39 it would cover approx 5 months for you (200/39) :)

    • +1

it means $200 credit for my future bills, it will cover around 3 months of my bills ($69/month = mobile+landline)

  • Not sure how you got the $10 off - thought you had to have home phone, broadband (or Foxtel) plus a mobile to get this - do you have all 3 ? - anyone care to comment ?

    • I just had telstra landline before signing up for the mobile and they gave me $10 discount on homeline plus package,
now my min. monthly cost for mobile & landline is $69.

  • Just ported over 2 numbers from Optus, one on the $49 Cap for IP4, the other a low $15 member plan BYO. Total welcome credit = $500…..

    Very happy… :-)

    • How did you get $500 credit? Did you negotiate hard for that? Do you think $600 is possible for buying 2x HTC Desire + port 2x optus numbers?

  • i prefer the staff plan w/data. phone is $20 with min calls + pick a data plan then use sipdroid to make calls.

Telstra HTC Desire $49/month plan with $200 Credit through Telstra has been around for a while now, wouldn't be surprised if they give discounts if you join their other products, JB was offering the same plan with $100 JB gift card, but let me tell you a little story…

I changed from Optus to Telstra about a month ago after taking the $49/month plan with HTC Desire. I was going to go for the JB deal but on the same day I received a phone call from a Telstra reseller, who offered me the same plan with no discounts, I told him about the JB deal and he offered me $300 credit, however he said they were out of stock until first week of September, after I told him JB had available stock and I may just go with them, he then changed the offer to the same plan with a bonus Samsung Ultratouch phone and $200 credit.

I rang up Telstra about 2 weeks ago to activate my sim and asked about stock for the HTC and was told because I had already received the Samsung phone for free I could not get the HTC for free, there is no way I get 2 free phones in a contract and they would not take the Samsung back as it had already been opened. Luckily I had not activated my sim and I told them I did not intend to unless I also get the HTC for free, as per my original agreement. I demanded I get what I agreed to or I would require all the details on my agreement including the recorded phone call.

Called them again last week and explained the situation again and they finally agreed to cancel the original Samsung plan for free and start a new plan for me on HTC for free, which I need to pick up from the post office, I certainly hope I get my $200 in the first bill.

  • I just got an iphone 4 from telstra for $39 cap but ONLY online as I have my home phone with telstra

    • any link?

      • No link !! just ring telstra sales but you have to ASK for $200 credit which they will give you + 500mb worth of data……

    • What is the value on $39 cap?

Currently on my $29 plan with Optus (not available anymore) I get 100 free text, $24 worth of calls each month (unused credit rolls over) and 250mb data.

what are the handset repayments like for iphone 4??

Considering that our home phone and foxtel are with Telstra I might try and strike a deal on an iphone 4 plan with them..

      • there was no phone repayments at all. I got the iphone 4 for $39(cap) a month thats for $400 worth of calls and free calls from my landline to the mobile and free phone calls from the iphone to the landline. All because I have my home phone and Bigpond internet through telstra you have to ring telstra sales and then ASK for $200 credit and that pays for the $150 up front for the iphone 4 and part of your 1st bill. You also get 500mb worth of data….

  • I didn't realise Telstra offered a $10 bundling arrangement, bugger I just signed up with Internode for my internet and phone. I have to say though the Telstra 3G network is quite impressive these days. With my iphone 4 I can connect just about anywhere an I live regional at the end of Gold Coast. I benchmarked a download at 200kb/s the other day which is faster than my last ADSL 1 connection! Perfect for HD video streaming on the go. I was doubting I'd ever use the bundled download limit but now I'm struggling not to go over it. My wife is still with 3 and her iphone 3GS can't use the network half the time, and when it can it's like watching paint dry.

  • i attempted to call them about the $39 bundle for the desire. They said the welcoming credit was only available if they call us… :(
