2017 RAV4 2wd CVT 2.0 petrol quoted $30500 how much more I can negotiate down?

UPDATE

I went to see 2 dealers. The best price I got now is $30500. The RRP (EOFY promotion) is 32990. I was told to aim at 15% off RRP. The dealer tried to convince me that because it is promotion price, they can't do the same % discount as usual.

I'm wondering who is bearing the price deduction during promotion, dealer or TOYOTA. If it is TOYOTA it seems I should still aim for the same discount harder. If it is the dealer, maybe he has a point.

The best price I can find in carsales is 30499 in VIC. I live in sydney. As per one replier's suggestion this price should be my target and I have already achieved that. WHOOOOOPS.

28k achievable?

ORIGINAL POST

The reason I put the basic model of RAV4 as my first option is that everyone are telling me its cheaper to maintain a TOYOTA, and this is the only SUV I drove before when I was in TAS for holiday.

I simply want to replace my old 2006 honda accord euro for a suv with more space, and at the same time I can drive for uber for some extra income. I'm having a 6 month old baby now, I feel more pressure financially.

My budge is roughly around 30k. I have little knowledge in cars. I'm afraid of getting someone's trouble if I purchase a second hand from say carsale or gumtree. I got my old car from a friend, who I could trust and the price was good then (10k for 2006 accord eruo in 2013 with 80,000 km).

It is almost EOFY, I'm ready to do the purchase in June. I was interested in Mazda but my wife thinks mazda is not good. I also considered Hyundai CX3 or CX5, but my mechanics suggested RAV4. It is hard for me to make a decision, first I don't know what price I should be expecting, I'm not at price negotiation although I check ozbargain website regularly. And also 6 months service for TOYOTA is a bit pain.

I don't have much passion with cars. But it is a big expense to me, and I get nervous of making a bad choice. The biggest expense I had before was to purchase my $10,000 car.

Any suggestion guys?

      thanks

Thats what I will do. But you always need to negotiate the price down after the quote. I want to get some suggestion on what to expect.

Depends on the model of RAV4 and features you want but…. as a general comment for new cars that sell in large quantities, and there's many dealers competing for your business, 10% discount off RRP is usually achievable. But you have to play the game right. You can't just walk in and say "give me x price".

The best way is to play a couple of dealers against each other. They are used to it and will usually try to throw in stuff to win you over.

look on carsales for the exact model of car you want for the best price. the best price is the price you are negotiating for with the dealer.

I don't quite get it. If carsale has a price why I negotiate for the same price with dealer? Sorry I'm a bit confused, if that's the target price why don't I just buy through the dealer who put the ads in carsale?

      • that's exactly what is being suggested.

        • because the dealer you actually go through might not be the cheapest on car sales.

the cheapest on car sales might be a dealer 400kms away.

  • I wasn't a huge fan on the rav 4 I hired when my old car was getting repaired. I went with a subaru XV as I preferred the awd capabilities
