Got the Sorbolene Moisturiser with Vitamin E 1 Litre to replace my shaving cream - not worth it imo.

    • Soap works a lot better.

    • Why do you want to replace your shaving cream?

      • The shaving cream snores too lpud

    • +4

You should definitely get yourself some shaving soap and a brush. I only shave once or twice a week. I've gone through two bars of soap in about 10 years (about half way through the 2nd bar). So I've spent roughly $80 in that time for the brush and soap. I've also spent about $100 on a double edge razor and $40 on a "large sample razor blades pack(bought it so long ago I forget how many came in the kit, was off Amazon) so around about $120 over 10 years for shaving consumables, the razor will last me until I die and beyond, so isn't included in that consumable price.

I remember before switching that I was paying $22 for 4 Gillette disposal heads and whatever it was on a can of cream that would run out of gas before I used all the cream every 2nd month. The amount of waste was crazy.

Or just grow a beard! ;)

      • Whats it like using a double edge razor? Looked it up online, looks like it takes chunks out

        • +1

Yeah, it's easy as. Just as long as you don't drag the razor sideways across your face you're fine. But even then, they have a safety bar on it so you're not going to take a chunk of skin off. Just a shallow cut. You don't even realise you nicked yourself until you see a bit of blood.

I don't know how old you are but if you've got acne I'd probably give it a miss.

Im mid 20s, what razor & blades do you use

"Just as long as you don't drag the razor sideways across your face you're fine."

OMG, so much this. Used a straight razor - even the tiniest lateral movement will draw blood - ended up looking like Norman Gunston.

        • @PAOK11: currently using a Merkur 39c slant with feather blades. I originally started with a 1942 Gillette super speed, it's great. But after using the merkur for a while, I gave it a go again and it felt like it was blunt in comparison. The slant design of the merkur definitely makes it more aggressive.

I was recently given a Gillette 1961 fatboy when my mother in law was cleaning out her parents house (her father died about 5 years ago and her mother just recently moved into a home). Haven't tried it yet as it needs a good clean and some hospital grade sanitiser! But heard it's good.

        • @HN Professional:never used a straight razor before. Worried I don't have a steady enough hand! You still using one?

        • @Name: are they model numbers or the year they were released?

        • @PAOK11: year they were released. They last forever!

    Thanks for your post

Thanks for posting. I see Arnott's are reacting to the recently lowered price of Coles chocolate biscuits.

With no disrespect to the OP and anyone else who spends so much time coming up with these tables, why do you bother when we can just check the catalogue online ourselves from 5pm Mondays, or just flick through the pages of the delivered catalogues for those that get it?

    • +7

Not everybody notices everything in a catalogue or store whose designs promote spending not saving. Posting here encourages discussion which can guide Members to more sensible purchasing decisions.

Consider my earlier comment on chocolate biscuits. Today, Coles Online offer TimTams at $4.02 per pack or 2 packs for $5. Tomorrow, it is suddenly possible to charge $1.82. That possibility is constant - there are no ingredients shortages - but Campbell Soup Company USA are manipulative. Some packs contain merely 170g or 165g or even 160g. Coles equivalent biscuits are all 200g packs and the Everyday Price reduced to $1.65. Many shoppers don't notice that or harbour a TimTams proclivity due substitution to reduce costs.

Cheaper biscuits seem trivial but cost awareness is a beneficial habit reinforced by discussion herein. Glancing a year's Woolworths/Coles/IGA posts can save a household $1,000+.

I just do it to make it easier for people to see the bargains in table form rather than page form, and to highlight the better specials. It doesn't really take me too much time at all but I enjoy it!
