New Pricing Telstra Prepaid Broadband Plus 10GB $50/ 25GB $90 (28 day expiry )No Contract

150

So recently, I was about to recharge $150 or whatever for 2 year expiry and 16GB or something. Well I was just about to get my woolworths sim activated when I saw Telstra has released new rates.

28 day expiry
$30 3GB
$50 10GB
$90 25GB

365 expiry
$150 25GB

For comparison, remember this is Telstra and some people only get decent speeds on Telstra, I am one of them. Woolworths 10GB 180 day cycle is $69.

So good work Telstra.

I know there is a UNIDAYS promo for 12 month contract but I don't qualify and don't want a 12 month contract

PDF: Seems plan was released 16th of May.

The worst thing is you have the choice of 28 days or 365 days and nothing in between. ie for 3 months you have to pay $90 Ouch

    • +1

Their previous plans for low usage over 365 days were much better, these new ones are pretty crap…

for 3 months you have to pay $90

      It's less than 3 months… only 84 days.

I was talking about recharging only in February

    • optus are 50gb for $70 28 days had to use it while adsl was being installed into new place.

plugged into modem as fed the household for 3 weeks.

  • +3

I think it is still pretty poor form to have to pay an extra $60 for the same 25gb of data to not expire after 28 days

  • +2

Still expensive asf. Look at Ovo for good data plans with no speed restrictions

    • +3

I have OVO. This is not for everyone. This is for people who can't get good Voda or Optus reception. Main cities, don't worry. Regional areas like the Whitsundays, where I am, it's horrid. In fact there is a tower down and has been down for almost a week so there is almost no speed. Like sub 50KBps and in certain areas. Telstra meanwhile is everywhere and I get 1.5MBps.

in Melbourne, at least up until I switched 12 months ago, Optus was pretty crap. Once I was standing directly next to an Optus 4G advertisement about how great it was in Melbourne (on Elizabeth street) and couldn't get a 4G signal. Only got 3G at home/work as well (and lost the signal entirely on the loop).

Telstra is actual 4G everywhere, even if it did cost a fortune, at least I feel like I'm getting what I pay for.

Good point, I'm very lucky that I'm a few hundred metres from a new Optus tower so I get speeds as quick as they come

    • Good tip. Great rates if Optus works for you in your area.

  • $150 for a year but no rollover, gee…

Check out the last deal posted, but that was earlier this year…I managed to get 12gb for $25/month…its contract but you are guaranteed 12gb a month…so this prepaid is no deal for me…

Mobile broadband is so over priced. It's ridiculous because you can often get equally good data limits as part of prepaid or postpaid phone plans

But it sucks when you don't have access to ADSL/cable and have no other affordable options

  • Why does 365 days cost more than 28 days? It's the same 25GB. Shouldn't cost them more to supply it over a longer period than a shorter one, should it?

      Welcome to the real world

      • +3

The real world sucks. I want to go back to the Matrix.

  • I'll stick to my $50 for 5GB and 12 month expiry. These prices are terrible

    • +1

If that's enough to last you a year, then ok. But if you need to top it up before the year, $50 for 5GB is not great. That's $10 per GB. The 25GB for $150 is cheaper, provided you use it all.

      • +1

$50 for 5GB doesn't sound great, but because you receive $50 credit for the Google Play store with the old plans, it can make the plan essentially free. So it's kind of awesome.

      • +2

Sorry, I should have added that I racked up 160GB on my SIM during the good old CM2U glitch a couple of years ago, so $50 a year to keep it going is good for me at the moment :) And as mentioned, I can also use the $50 on google play to pay for netflix, google music, etc

  • Optus has 50gb for $70 no contract

  • Sorry if this sounds stupid, but these work if you head overseas right? I've only started checking this sort of thing too be able to facetime with the family while on an overseas trip soon. Any recommendations?

    • +2

No, this offer will not work overseas. It must be used on Telstra's own network.

Depending on where you're going, you may be better off buying a local SIM card at your destination, or perhaps consider buying an international SIM like this: http://www.woolworthsglobalroaming.com.au/

In all cases, be aware that Facetime can use a lot of data, and mobile data is going to be expensive in most places. Maybe you can get by with a small amount of mobile data for maps/email etc and use hotel WiFi or free WiFi at cafes etc for your video calls.

      • Thanks mate

  • 28 days i pretty shifty as you're paying for 13 months in a year.
I hate telcos and resellers who do this.

  • Vividwireless wireless $90 unlimited for those who want better value.

    • Or need >25 gb.

  • If you have a mobile BB device with 3GB included and you immediately recharge $150 after activating does the included 3GB get a 12 month expiry and if not is it used before the 25GB/12 month data kick in?

    • Not 100% sure as usually don't want to take that risk. Better to wait till data runs out, then recharge with this offer ( will still be running as just new ). Unless they state data rolls over, it probably would not.

I Would like this clarified for Telstra also or other carriers.

      • yeah but this question goes to what happens to, say 25GB data bought when you r 12 month expiry data is done inside the 12 months? Does the new data have the left-over expiry or only 28 days? These questions make it a reasonable deal or a pain in the ass.

'Not taking the risk' kills the deal for me.

  • Rip off prices for what ya get

really bloody pathetic telstra, come off the grass….

  • Deal sweetener for the $90/25GB .. get a free handset, choice of S8 64GB, Iphone 7 32GB or Pixel 32GB
