Where to Receive a FREE Flu Vaccination? List Known Locations or Make a Request

Apparently deals for free flu vaccinations are banned on OzBargain. However I am interested in them as I'm sure others are!

Last season I noticed a medical centre advertising free flu vaccinations but I could never make an appointment when I was there. It isn't practical for me to get there this season either.

So if anyone knows of free flu vaccination offers please list them in this thread.

And/or if you would like to be informed of such an offer near you, feel free to leave your requested location.

  • I'd like to find one near Chatswood or the Sydney CBD.

All "MyHealth Medical Centres" jab for free.
There is one in Chatswood Westfield (below KFC) and one in Chatswood Chase (near coles).

The medical centre next to ChemistWorks in Broadway Shopping Centre provides free flu shot. They'll charge Medicare for the consultation tho

      • Looks like each centre is different.

The webpage for Chatswood Chase has a banner that says $10.
The webpage for Sydney CBD has a banner that says $25.
The webpage for Chatswood Westfield doesn't even have a banner at all.

        • You are right.
The one for Chase say "We have run out of free stock", so it's now $10.
Probably call and ask if they still have free shots.

        • If you're happy to pay for it, you can simply go to Chemist Warehouse and buy it cheap then book a doctor consultation to have it injected.

        • @citygal: Not sure if it's finished or fully booked, but Chemist Warehouse were doing the flu shots for you by appointment.

        • @John Kimble:
Oh I didn't know that. That's even better if you're willing to pay (tho in OzB spirit most of us r reluctant to pay! Lol

        • Confirmed that it's free at the Chatswood Westfield clinic

Didn't realise they were free unless you were old or pregnant etc

Or are you talking about something else?

Or are you talking about something else?

Yes. Some medical centres and pharmacies have offered them for free without any stipulations.

I had to pay for mine these last two years… apparently my asthma isn't worth it. :(

Some medical conditions (eg. diabetes, heart disease) cover the flu shot by the government. Need to check with your doctor tho.

      • Apparently, its because I'm not suffering enough to be eligible :)

        • In that case, just find a medical centre that will jab for free.

There's a free one at Chadstone SC in Melbourne

some gov't depts offer them free to employees

  • Does anyone here know if it's possible to get a viral analysis (preferably RT-PCR or a viral culture) done in Australia? Is it even offered by GPs?

It would seem the Department of Health's "Australian Influenza Surveillance Report" would only monitor those cases severe enough to end up in hospital. I never heard a conversation along the lines of "No way, I had influenza A(H3N2) as well!"

I suppose it won't necessarily help to test the general population right now since the most common strain in May may not be the most prevalent trouble-makers during the usual peak season in August/September. And I don't know if vaccine manufacturers would update stocks anyway?
