We're only up the road in Dural. Not too far away :)

    Noo… I just bought the V581 a month ago… for $756!!! :(

    • +1

They are always going to get cheap when they are changing to the new year's models (x81 vs x83). As it is, this price is about what they are usually in the EU, so expect to see even cheaper prices on import.

    • +1

That's still a good deal you got on the RX-V581. As long as it does everything you need that's the important thing

  • +2

Snapped up! Thanks for that guys!

    • Thank you. We appreciate it!

Great value! Sold. Thanks Eastwood HiFi for being a great store for many years!

    • Thanks for purchasing. We appreciate the positive feedback :)

  • This gonna be good with Bose 301 series V speakers? Im not a pro about sound system and concern about having a karaoke system to enjoy at home. Anyone can reckon a good system? Many thanks.

    • The Yamaha RX-V681 should not have a problem running the Bose 301 Series V speakers. Keep in mind the Yamaha RX-V681 is intended for use with music and movie/TV playback. Karaoke can put a lot of stress on your equipment. With the appropriate mixer and mic it is possible, but be careful with the volume. This applies to any AV receiver/amplifier - strictly speaking they're not really meant to be used as Karaoke amplifier.

If you're looking to enjoy karaoke regularly and at high volume consider dedicated karaoke equipment.

      • Can you plz reckon any karaoke system?

        • Unfortunately we don't sell any karaoke systems. If you do a search online you'll be able to find a store who can help you

        • @Eastwood HiFi:

I use an ageing Sony STR-DB795 amp as a karaoke amplifier.

It's 100 watts per channel in 2.0 mode.

Works great, no issues. Much better sound than the "dedicated" karaoke amps which are made by lesser manufacturers.

At the end of the day, if your amp has a 4 year warranty - if by the very small chance it breaks due to karaoke use, its still covered. It's not as if Yamaha can tell you are using it for karaoke.

OP what is the key differences between the RX-V681 and the RX_A660.

I am trying to figure out if I should spend the extra $200…

        • +1

@GreatWhiteHunter: We always like to caution people about karaoke use, especially after people have a few drinks, crank the volume and start screaming into the microphone.

Over the RX-A660 the RX-V681 has Zone 2, phono input for turntable, two extra HDMI inputs and slightly more power. They are the main differences.

          RX-V681 has 2 year warranty.

          RX-A660 has 4 year warranty.

You can see the full specs of each unit at Yamaha Australia's website.

        • @Eastwood HiFi:

LOL karaoke is only really fun after a few drinks.

My voice improves after each drink to 4 drinks, stays the same for another 2, then the whole situation rapidly deteriorates after that :)

Hmm torn with whether to go this Yamaha RX-V681 or spend more and get something more powerful like a Sony STR-DN1070 or STR-DN1080.

This Yammy is good value no doubt, but 90 watts per channel in 2.0 or 7.1 concerns me when I can get 165 watts per channel for $300 (?) more….

  • Apologies if this is a dumb question - but can this receiver run in 5.1 channel mode (instead of 7.2)? Unsure whether such amps are only designed to work with their "native" speaker configuration.

    • +3

Not a dumb question: yes you can run just 5.1

      • many thanks

        • You can use the two spare channels to power a pair of speakers in another room if you wish (this is the Zone 2 functionality that the RX-V681 supports)

  • Currently have an RX-V2065. But looking to replace it for 4K Netflix on my LG 65" and Windows HTPC. Anyone know if this has an audio receive channel on the HDMI? I can't see it in the specs, but other models show it in specs.

    • +2

Audio "return" channel if that's what you mean, yes its listed under the features section on the yamaha website.

  • Exactly what I meant. Thanks, don't know how I missed it, took me like five or six times to see it.
Found it in the manual too.

  • Guys nice work.

Your competitors at Todd's Hifi are doing free delivery for the same price.

  • Damn! I thought this deal was for a cheap dirtbike.

  • Hmm torn with whether to go this Yamaha RX-V681 or spend more and get something more powerful like a Sony STR-DN1070 or STR-DN1080.

Might give Eastwood's a call on Monday and see what deals they have on the Sony.

This Yammy is good value no doubt, but 90 watts per channel in 2.0 or 7.1 concerns me when I can get 165 watts per channel for $300 more…..

  • How does the Pioneer VSX-1131 for $699 at Kogan compare?

    • This unit is very close in spec to the Yamaha RX-V681. Hardly anything to separate them. Both are very well spec'd for the price.

Cheapest we could see it at Kogan was $799 though.

  • Anybody who picked up the Yamaha RX-V681want to comment about the sound quality? Is the 90 watts per channel loud enough for an average lounge room set up?

    • The RX-V681 is capable of powering the majority of speakers on the market to quite loud volumes, and will be fine for the average lounge room. However keep in mind everyone's definition of 'loud' is different. The particular speakers connected to the RX-V681 will also effect how loud the system can go and how hard the AV receiver has to work.

I have an averaged size room of 4m x 4m with set of Yamaha IQ70 (150W) front and rear speakers that I bought from you a few years back. Would the 681 or 781 be good enough to drive the speakers at 'average volume'

        • If your speakers are the KEF iQ70 the RX-V681 will have no problem powering those speakers at an average volume. The RX-V681 and RX-V781 have very similar power outputs so either will do the job nicely.

  • +1

Hi there, would this be able to provide good sound for Polk RTI A7 floor standing speakers? Thanks.

  • The R-V681 will power the Polk RTI A7 speakers nicely. It sits comfortably within the speakers' recommended amplifier power range. If you like to play very loud you can consider using the bi-amp function of the RX-V681.

  • +1

very happy with this reciever. with dolbu vision coming at this price kinda feels like a steal. Had a few setup issues using PC but ive sorted that out now. pretty stunned how much better my speakers sound on this yamaha vs the lower end denon i used to have

  • We only have a few of these AV receivers remaining at the awesome price of $699.

  • All our Yamaha RX-V681's are now sold. Thank you to everyone who placed an order.
