These are at USD 69.99 again. I bought 2 last time they were at this price about 6 weeks ago (in addition to the one I already owned) - and have not bought now - so have not gone through the process to check if the price is only for Prime customers (a month free is available every 12 months if you are not) and exactly what the AUD price is including shipping. When I bought it was about AUD 105. These prices often only last a number of hours - but I noticed I received a camelcamelcamel notification about this price nearly 24 hours ago - so it has been at this price for a while. I would hurry to order if interested at this price.

The hub is powered via a micro-usb wall plug - which is US style - so you need a US-AUD adapter - or just an AU micro-USB wall plug and cable. I'm guessing most people have a few spare ones these days.

You can also get a USD 5 referral credit using random code linked below - which is a one-off for install and first purchase with Amazon app.

    • Thanks for the update.

      • BTW - Did you confirm whether or not this is Amazon Prime restricted? Nobody has said anything, so I'm guessing not?

        • No restriction with my purchase.

        • @tofuguts: That's good. Thanks.

      • Question, is the 'Hub' included?
        Thanks

        • Yes. See second last para of the post. Amazon has the remote on its own for USD 35 with Prime. Usually around USD 40 I think.

  • +1

    Harmony hub is excellent.

    • can you get it to work as mouse for windows computer? I got this extreme lagging movement :(

      • What are you talking about?

  • +1

But why do you need three of them

    • +1

Want remotes and hubs in 3 different rooms - where AV equipment is (or will be) behind cabinetry - for which these are ideal. RF is so much more reliable than line-of-sight infrared. I am currently using Harmony 650's in other rooms - but these are so much more robust - especially useful with kids and a toddler in the house - and the CR2032 battery only needs replacement about once a year - just replaced for the first time in my first one. Some people may not like the lack of backlighting - but it is a pretty minor issue for me.

      • Might be a stupid question but how do you choose devices from the included remote? I have the logitech 650 and there's a dedicated button for Devices.

        • It has the 3 shortcut buttons - like the 650 - refer to the image. I use all 3 for 'combo' activities rather than individual devices (TV using AV Receiver audio, HTPC with TV display using AV Receiver Audio and Chromecast with TV display using AV Receiver audio). However I'm pretty sure you can long-press or double click those buttons to get a second set of activities - which I'm guessing you could just use for a single device each. I rarely need to use a device on its own. If I do I use the phone app - which is very good. There is also no Help function like you have on the 650 - but I hardly ever need it - because it is very reliable at doing the activities correctly. If it doesn't get it right first time then a second or third push of the activity button pretty much always gets it right.

          @belbo:
Thanks, just bought one, never used the activities in my 650 as it is very unreliable.

        • @jominix: Thanks for the feedback. Enjoy.

        • @jominix:

never used the activities in my 650 as it is very unreliable.

The Smart Control will be a lot more reliable with the RF from the remote to the hub (and the hubs IR / bluetooth / wifi is excellent too), so you should probably start thinking more "activity-centric", which is how the Harmonys are designed to be used

        • @kirt: Great, that's good to hear as that was the main reason I got one. Also ended up buying this IOGear wireless hdmi to hide everything in a cabinet.

  • Thanks OP… Been thinking about picking up another one of these, and now I don't have to anymore.

  • Op, with these if you have a TV, a receiver, and a DVD player setup and say you want to change volume on receiver how do you specify that the remote should send commands to receiver and not TV? And same thing for choosing source. How do you change source on receiver and not TV for example? I mean with the remote (not phone app).

There is no touch screen and no varying menu on the remote so how do select what device gets the command?

    • Going to bed now but briefly - you specify all that in the activity setup in your Logitech online account. Another nice thing about these - your account settings get updated to your remote wirelessly - no need to plug into computer with USB to update.

The controllers designed to be run using "activities" which is a combination of devices and commands. For example a "watch DVD" activity would automate turning on your receiver, TV, DVD player and setting both the TV and Receiver inputs to the correct device. A "Watch TV" command might be set to only use your receiver and the TV. If you're going from everything being off and choose "Watch TV" only the TV and receiver would be turned on. If you were watching a DVD and went to TV the devices already on would swap inputs (if needed) but only the DVD player would be turned off. The controller tracks the on/off state of devices.

As part of that activity you nominate what device is used to control volume, so in your case you'd nominate the receiver.

The idea is that you initially set up a number of activities which defines the correct inputs used by each device and what will be used to control audio, and from there you don't need to ever manually set the input to do anything. A single button press will power on the required devices and swap the inputs/outputs to an appropriate state.

      • +1

And they are designed with some intelligence too, to make setup easier.. e.g. if you make an activity with a dvd player, tv and receiver, the software will default to using the receiver to set volume, as this is the most likely scenario… if you make the same activity with dvd player and tv only, then it would default to the tv controlling the volume..

You can customise all these activities quite a bit.

        • Thanks for the replies!

I've had one of these for two or three years now and it's great but note this model has been replaced now by this one:

    https://www.logitech.com/en-au/product/harmony-companion?cri…

Prior version still super useful but if you have smart bulbs or other home automation appliances you should at least compare the two.

  • Got one to go with my existing remote. Thanks op!

  • Does this work with a Foxtel IQ3 box?

    • +1

      DB check says partially.

"Harmony is able to control basic functionality such as power, volume and changing channels. However this device and its original remote uses Bluetooth technology for sending other commands which is not compatible with an infrared (IR) based remote such as Harmony."

The hub has bluetooth though, so unsure why it can't control it. Maybe the IQ3 will only pair with its own remote.

  • Get this plus Google Home, turn your house into a sci fi fantasy.

    • or a Amazon echo and turn your house into the Enterprise.

    • already works with any android phone with google assistant, I can ask it to turn on TV / aircon etc by using the "ask harmony to" command

      • That's the business. Not sure if applicable to phone, but you can also setup voice shortcuts foregoing the lengthy ask harmony trigger.

        • the new google app update for voice shortcuts is so handy

  • No backlight kills it for me.

    • Don't let it kill it for you. I was concerned, but after while you can read it by feel

      • Also works with the phone app if you really do struggle with the control, which is of course backlit.

        • Or just unlocking your phone usually gives enough light to see the remote. :-) I find there is usually enough light from the TV screen etc to see the remote well enough. Once I started using this remote I also realised how few buttons I actually use. It's pretty easy to learn the layout and know where the buttons are by feel. First step is to make sure you're holding it the right way up. :-) Bear in mind that none of the OE TV, AV Receiver and other device remotes (I know of) are backlit - so most OE remote users seem to manage fine without it. Also - you can use the hub with some of the Logitech touchscreen backlit remotes - if you have one or think worthwhile getting if you just can't live without the backlighting.

  • superb remote / automation hub, except using it as a windows mouse, got this extreme lag with IMAC bootcamp and MS surface pro 2, cant make it to work properly :(

watch this youtube video to see lag it is :(
    https://youtu.be/s1f2X60vT1g

    • Yeah its a shame about the lag.. i have used other software to use smartphone as a keyboard and mouse with a lot less lag… just a pity this can't do everything well… hopefully a fw update will improve this in future (when i first bought mine this feature wasnt even available)

      • same here, I got the hub when the app still work with android 2.3.3 , and the mouse function has been implemented for more than 1 year, and they still have not fixed the lag :(

  • Samsung Galaxy Note 4, S5 should have similar functionality (with IR & Peel Remote) for many devices - Free (OZ bargain approved).
    http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-4/45528…

    • Very different having a physical remote! I also think the hub has a massive advantage.. it is so nice to not have to point the remote anywhere and for it to just work.. Currently using mine for tv, projector, receiver, bluray player, dvr, xbox, roku and pc… i guess it all depends what you're using it for. I find it has a massive advantage over peel remote

  • thanks OP got one

  • does the hub have batteries or do it always have to be plugged in ??

    • +2

Needs to be plugged in. Needs to be with your other entertainment equipment as it is an IR blaster (and Bluetooth) so would usually be near a plug - for the usual use case anyway - which is controlling concealed devices which makes regular line of sight IR useless. Also comes with a neat smaller wired blaster to put outside cabinetry or on TV etc.

      • ah damn. was hoping that it took batteries so i could put my remotes away and have a neater coffee table!

        • +1

Sounds like you may not understand how it works. Hub is basically a big IR blaster. Goes in the cabinetry with your controlled devices. The remote has a battery and controls the hub. It should be the only remote you need - so you should be able to put all the others away.

        • @belbo:

i have a wall mounted tv + sound bar, and my austar box is remote mounted via hdmi + ir over cat 6. There is no cabinetry to mount the IR blaster. I was hoping for the harmony hub to sit on my coffee table and i'd use my phone as a remote.

        • @MrNeil:

The hub is very light, and you could probably just sit it behind your tv, then connect the mini IR blaster and stick it to the front of the tv.

Saying that, the hub is so powerful you might not even need the mini blaster.

BTW - the hub is powered by micro usb, so it may be possible to power it via the USB on your tv or soundbar.

        • @kirt:

Too right.. @MrNeil the hub is brilliant… does not need direct line of site to your devices in most cases… you could hide it in many places near a powerpoint or usb port

  • I love my harmony hub. Works well with homekit and Siri as long as you have Homebridge running.

  • A note for anybody who wants to use the Bluetooth control for their PS3, you can only pair 1 remote at a time so if you have the official playstation one it won't work anymore =(
Just picked up one and working great, replacing my old Harmony 780!

  • Will this work like the Samsung Smart Remote which has a mouse pointer? I've been using the 650 but missing this feature.

    • -1

mine lag like crazy, you can see from the youtube link I sent before.

  • Anyone using one with Amazon Echo? I've read conflicting reports about how well it works.

  • Should be marked as expired. Is $95USD now.

    • Thanks. Done.

  • Has anyone had any troubles with their order for this?

I just got a confirmation from Amazon that they'ved cancelled my order because ' Shipping address is undeliverable '.
Even though it's just the standard AU address I always use for Amazon orders.

It was marked shipped as well. Which is real confusing.

    • Amazon rep got back to me.

"Up on contacting the carrier, I've been informed that due to customs outage overnight, Australian Border Force (ABF) has experienced an issue with their system and their system is still unavailable.
This has impacted the clearance of the cargo and the packages.
That is why the system has automatically issued a refund for the order."

      Bizarre.

      • In summary, do you still get your delivery - albeit delayed - or is it really cancelled and refunded as per message?

        • As far as I know, it's been cancelled and refunded.
The rep told me to re-order the same item again, but it's now out of stock. So they said they'd get back to me.
