  • YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG :D

and hidden at the very bottom of description is this nugget of wisdom

    • Does not play 4K Blu-ray discs
    • +3

Also no support for HDR if that's important for anyone

      • What, all those 4k, HDR LED/LCD panels out there that still can't even produce a black level even close to what the last plasmas did 5 years ago?

4k and HDR on LCD is lipstick on a pig. Pointless.

        • But OLED or ORGBLED can……right…?

        • @Zachary:

Yep, I'm talking LCD / LED.

        • @Ripped: So even those kinds can't match the deeep black levels of plasmas/crts?

Then why did they stop selling plasma TVs if they have superior blacks than either LCD/LED and even their high end offerings?

          @Zachary:

No, even the best HDR LCD/LED cannot match the black level of the best plasmas and CRT.

I'd imagine it wasn't good business to keep producing plasma. Even when they were at their best, the market made up people's minds for them, LCD was more expensive, and marketed as the better product. It never was.

No better example of how marketing can influence people's purchasing decisions. Plasma was always tucked away in the corner of the shop, while LCD was front and centre with the best HD demo material.

Why is Samsung not doing OLED? They think they'll be able to do this LCD reboot they call QLED, which is insulting, and still make a killing by marketing it as an OLED competitor (almost same name too) with no doubt a cheaper price. Lame.

    • what an actual waste of money

      • +1

Not necessarily. It is a triple tuner PVR with 2TB of storage. You'd be paying $399 for a Fetch TV Mighty. So for an extra $150 you get a Blu-ray player and a Blu-ray burner.

    • But hardly any Blu-ray players in general can can't they?

Next time you don't need to tell us that this is your first deal. We can tell from your L-plate.

Oh wait, there isn't going to be a first deal next time. How about reading the posting guidelines before you post?

Or you could comment on the deal itself.

I am only fulfilling OP's request to tell him what is wrong, and to not go easy on him. Absolutely I am commenting on the deal as it is written.

The poster clearly did, and further affirmed their acceptance of and support for the terms and conditions under which they made the post. The section of the post that they chose to capitalise this is a necessary and sufficient indicator of this to those of us who have had further training in semantic assessment and extrapolation.

What's there to record from TV? Wait, what's there to watch on free to air?

  • Ive had one of these for 12 months.

Typical Panasonic rock solid build quality, but also thei standard slightly quirky GUI layout.

Excellent PVR, triple tuner recording is great, DLNA player and server functions work fairly well.

The up-scaling to my Samsung 55 inch 4K TV looks great . No artefacts halo's or shimmering that i have noticed so far.

BD recording and playback works well as expected.

Panasonic APP to view TV guide and remote record programs is a bit slow to update pages as you scan through, but is functional and has saved me when i have forgotten to set something to record.

I replaced my long standing and to me highly regarded Beyonwiz with this, and am very happy with it so far.
