Moto G4 Play (5.0") 16GB Smartphone $138 @ Domayne

1420

Courtesy to nick123 who posted it at Top Bargains.

The biggest positive i have found is with Motorola Marshmallow you can allocate the sd card memory as the internal memory and hence its not limited to 16 GB.

Create a hub of entertainment and build a library of songs and photos with 16GB storage that is easily expanded with a micro SD card for an additional 128GB.*
Built on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, the Moto G4 Play enjoys a streamlined, clean interface that will give you all the functions and services you need without having a cluttered experience.
Never miss a moment, with an 8MP F2.2 rear camera and a 5MP front camera that offers fast image capture to record a family moment instantly.
A water-repellent nano coating protects your Moto G$ from spills, splashes and even a little rain without the hassle of covering plugs.

I got email confirmation straight away after ordering last night.

    • +1

Check your SPAM, mine went to SPAM.

  • +2

For anyone wondering about the shipping cost, it is $9 (at least, to my address).

    • +1

It will come via Courier usually. (Fastway)

  • Anyone have this phone and can comment regarding video calling performance? Google Duo for example.

I've had the Moto G4 Plus and currently use Moto Z. Looking at this for my father.

Ordered last night via paypal, received confirmation straightaway.

    • +1

That's only a confirmation your order has been received & to be processed. My account still shows Processing. Next level is Ready for Collection or Shipped.
If stock does not exist, expect cancellation & refund :-(

  • Thanks OP - bought 2 for my parents.

  • Anybody can confirm this is a dual SIM ?

    • SIM - Single slot - in description

    • It is in fact dual sim. I just got one pricematched from Officeworks.

      • Thanks wonder how Officeworks price matched when Domayne took the page down.

        • +1

I showed them the Domayne page early this morning before it was taken down.

        • @Ge3ks: good one!

  • My local Officeworks has the phone in stock, but they would not price match Domayne. Said it was because no Domayne stores had stock. Bummer.

    • +2

I rang the store and spoke to the manager after being denied a price match this morning. They agreed that I should have been pricematched according to the policy and did the deal for me this afternoon. Stoked.

    phone removed from site

    • +1

I wonder how many they actually had, (or if they even had any at all)…

      Page Not Found
Sorry, we couldn’t find the page you’re looking for. It may have been removed or no longer exists.

      Too many professionals maybe ?

      • +2

I'm not confident in this deal.

But, most sites do this like JB and EB Games, they just take the page down without saying it's sold out.

        Hopefully, we get it.

    • cancellations in 3….2….

Had one in cart and stalled, now sold out. Actually Feeling Good as I really want the G4 Plus or G5/Plus instead :-)

For people looking at this, maybe consider three other decent Android phones one less other two a more.

1/ Huawei Y6 Elite Vodafone ( can be unlocked via ebay and has wide band/mHz support ) on sale often $89-$109

2/ Sony XA Vodafone ( some already unlocked, otherwise sometimes free from Vodafone and also wide band/mHz support ) should get Android 7 Nougat update and on sale often $149-$169

3/ LG K10 unlocked and carrier free ( not getting much love here on OzBargain but good phone when purchased below $200 and has wide band support and rumoured to maybe get Android 7 Nougat update in future ) can be bought just below $200

    • I have the Huawei Y6 Elite. It is an OK phone however apps constantly refresh due to the lack of ram and if you playing some heavy games expect some freezes and lags.

      • Sure, I'm not much of a gamer and for my use the 1GB Ram copes enough. Do not see much difference in my use compared to a Nexus 4 with 2GB Ram ( would still use if not for lack of 4G band support.

Biggest weakness for me is the low ROM memory, keep getting low with only fifteen or so downloaded apps ( 700mb free out of 4GB usable space ). Have you tried moving apps to sd card with the Y6 Elite? Have experienced some freezes when heavily using Chrome but as I got this for $49 after $50 cashback eftpos card cannot complain for a cheap beat around.

On a plus the battery lasts longer than the Sony XA but is thicker too.

Huawei Y6 Elite Vodafone in current Coles catalog for $89. Was considering it before this deal last night. If order is cancelled…

  • Adreno 306, MSM8916 (Snapdragon 410), 450 MHz, 24.3 GFLOPS
(For comparison, the huawei y6 elite (coles, $89 + free $40 VF credit) has 40 GFLOPS)

    But this has 2GB.

A few weeks ago when i had a 20% off Ebay coupon code i tossed up between this phone and several others. In the end i got a used Moto X2 that was was in good condition for less than $100 for my mother in law. Still high quality specs for a phone that is about 3 years old. Downsides to that would be the battery size and potential issues the phone has had with the battery (replacements etc).
This phone is good for those after basic features just like the initial Moto G of 2014.

  • +1

Yes dual sim PLUS it has a user changeable battery unlike many phones these days with no battery access, and just got mine from Harveys who price matched down from their price of $240

    • +1

Clever, how did you show them the website since it's gone?

    • More info pls.

      • It was still up this morning when I got it. Just checked and yes they have now removed it :-(
The dude at Harveys had to get authority to match it as it was below their buy price (so he said)

      • +1

I got Harvey's to price match last night with a unique checkout code that expires in 24 hours.

        • Can you share the code pls.

        • @tajid:

code is unique, will not work again.

        • @tajid: sorry code is unique.

        • Good job price matching!

  • Can confirm it is a dual sim phone. Grabbed one from Officeworks. They pricematched Domayne.

    • Thanks mate

    • Second SIM is 2G; it's useless.

  • Have this phone, at this price it's a steal… even if it has lower specs than the Plus model

  • Order still "Processing"… :-(

    • when did you order? mine says processed, but haven't received my invoice yet.

      • Did you make an account? I didn't, so can't see order progression sadly.

But the email I got says processed.

        • +1

no, didn't bother to make the account either, i wanted to get in and buy it quick - the ozbargain way.

        • +1

@sbm888: Haha, me too. I called up and they said no update from the store. She said the store will call me back later with an update.

      • You are a bit optimistic…
All order confirmation emails should state
        Status: Processed

But that's only your order that has been accepted as processed, not the full purchase & fulfilment process. HN/Domayne system is always confusing.

        Checking Account shows
        Item Status: Processing (lowest level)
(But with their system, an order was stuck on "Processing" for months - I didn't mind as I was overseas & popped into the store finding order had been on shelf all that time!)

Next Item Status level is Ready for Collection or Shipped. At that stage invoice should be sent (but not always in my experience). Otherwise shows Backordered.

Ordered 21:30 for delivery - took my time researching phone.

Set up account after order - from Account link in confirmation email.

        • Account Item Status: changed to Shipped.
Emails received: invoice, phone shipped + tracking number.
          SMS received: shipped.
Tracking shows it's on it's way.

**UPDATE: I got a call to confirm that this deal was an error, however, they're honouring the deal and getting more stock from the supplier. Time expected is around 2.5 weeks before we get it.

    • i hope they get enough to honour all purchases though

  • no sign of confirmation letter.
    sigh………………….

  • My order is ready for collection

  • Just got an email saying that it'll be ready in around a week!

    • +2

same - really good of them to honour this deal, even thought they admitted it was a pricing error.

      • +1

Yeah I got same email that sorry or delay it should be ready in 7 days.

    • Is that for pick up?
No news for my delivered order.

      • +1

Call them up and they will let you know ETA.

        • On my todo list ;-)
But as others report delay of 1-2.5 weeks… it's a low priority.

        • +1

          It's been dispatched ;-)

        • +2

          @Infidel: Awesome news :)

        • +1

          @justmiike:
Couldn't agree more (grins from ear to ear) - was worried my cheap 3 year old backup phone I'm using would fail long before it shipped. (3 phones failed 2 weeks ago.)

Hope wait isn't long for others.

  • +2

Just received emails from Domayne & SMS from HN…
Your order has been shipped with Couriers Please (with tracking number & invoice)

Account - Item Status: Shipped (shows tracking number) - still showed Processing 2 hours ago.

Ordered for delivery 2 hours after deal posted - after researching phone.
Didn't bother contacting Domayne for ETA.
Hope that is useful info for others who bought.

    Very Pleased ;-)

Courier delivered phone this morning :-)

      • How ya liking your new phone after playing with it for a bit ( imagine you did whilst charging it up ).

Sounds like a great value phone for the price you guys got it for unlocked with carrier bloat and with local warranty And upgradable to Android 7 Nougat OTA ( one of the only local below $300 or so phones to have this already, even the Sony XA not yet ). Enjoy :-)

P.S. Great help in your comment to help fellow OzBargainer with Japanese accom.,….respect!

        • +1

Updating & loading apps at the moment - so have only seen the screen so far, after charging. (I spent the morning building a pond, with the phone as a treat when I'd finished.)

My first unlocked phone! No telco startup screen. Nice clear screen & bigger than 4.5" phones I've used in last 3 years. So that's good. Screen is much more responsive than previous cheaper phones. Getting used to buttons on screen rather than in hardware.

Upgrade to Nougat has been predicted for this month, but earlier dates were wrong. There's an earlier update waiting to download, but I might wait for Nougat.

Thanks. When I find a wonderful place / deal, it's great to share it. Of course not luxury, it's out of the way (after getting to Tokyo), in nature - so won't suit many. But a wonderful place to relax. I've found it's often cheaper to fly to another country & rent a comfy place, than stay locally.

Sweet, confirmation sent. Faster than expected.

  • System Update for Android 6.0.1 (suggested when starting up phone first time) is 426MB.
    https://motorola-global-en-uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detai…
Android 7 update is predicted for this month, so might be worth waiting until then to perform System Update.

    • After that there is a 83MB Update…

  • +1

2nd SIM slot is definitely 2G - inserted active Telstra SIM & shows Emergency Calls Only.

  • Received my order today!! very happy!

  • I just got an email that the phone has been posted :)

  • Yep received phone today, ordered 28/5 and I'm in Queensland.

I didn't receive any correspondence excluding the PayPal receipt email.

  • Phone received today, not bad for the price.

    Good travel phone

  • Received the phone yesterday. It's pretty decent for the price.
