The 14-year old behind the counter who gets $4.35/hr must be really impressed

This reminds me, going back a few years now (maybe ~2010) but I ordered a "Big Breakfast" and got the "huh?". Anyone remember those? Pretty much the only thing I ever used to eat on their brekky menu, one of those + a sausage mcmuffin. Gone! Unless they're back again I haven't looked at a maccas menu in years.

        • +1

          @Click_It:

I love the "Big Breakfast" as well - this is how I first discovered what a "Scrambled Eggs" is. Before this I never had tasted "Scrambled Eggs", but nowdays Scrambled Eggs are my favourite food of mine.

I dont know why McDonalds they took the "Big Breakfast" off the menu - it was the easily best breakfast item on the menu.

        • @yabbitboy:

I guess it wasn't popular to be pulled from the menu, I can count on 1 hand how many times I've gone to Maccas for breakfast since then.

        • @Click_It: also miss the big breakfast. If you find yourself in the USA, they make a big breakfast + a scone (aka. a biscuit in their language). Its what our big breakfast always needed.

As an aside, if you order a mighty mcmuffin + a hash brown, you get basically a big breakfast in a bun

        • @Matt P:

Thanks for the heads up, had never even heard of a mighty mcmuffin. I'll try it out.

No plans for a USA trip again anytime soon but it doesn't surprise me, they have everything over there. I remember my first stop at Maccas there asking for "chips" and they had no idea what I was on about :)

Does anyone add to their hamburger?

I had 1 brought home for me last week so I added some cheese on both sides of the patty and chilli flakes. 100% improvement. But it got me thinking, what other things could I do with it. Might go all out sometime and add tomato, onions, garlic flakes etc. But for portability, bringing some fake cheese and flakes transforms the ol' boring hamburger.

    • +1

this has me thinking, there's an IGA and a maccas right near work…

40 hamburgers, a lettuce, few tomatoes, pack of cheese, $50 would feed 10 people.

Oh my, how can a hamburger be cheaper than an apple pie. lol

    • +4

One has Apple the other has no ham.

      • That makes sense! lol

    • Apple tax.

  • Looks like I am back to being a frequent regular customer again at McDonalds - I hope the $1 hamburger deal sticks around for a long time. The last time I was a frequent regular customer at McDonalds was when they still have the $2 Chicken And Mayo burger on the loose change menu.

    • +1

I know what you mean. I visited Maccas maybe 5 or 6 times a year and most of those was just for the frozen coke. But the $1 burger is a welcomed inclusion, probably a lot better (err, a lot less bad for you) than the larger burgers too unless people are just buying 5 of them to compensate lol.

Strange thing happened last time I went through the drive-thru. Ordered a hamburger and the girl said "Was that a cheese burger?" I said "no, hamburger" she said "was that a cheese burger without the cheese?" I just drove to the window at that point. Got my $1 cheese burger without the cheese. Maybe it was her first day…

Apple pie should be $1 too. Surely they don't cost more to make but who knows.

    • If I'm not mistaken, the $1 Hamburger will go in approximately 3 months. However don't take my word for it :)

  • hell yeah! post surf burger run!

  • if only the hashbrown was still $1 - a good way to improve any burger!

    wtf is a 'hamburger'?

    • cheese burger with no cheese

    • Food. I think.

  • +4

With all the cheese comments, thinking of buying packet of cheese slices and sell them in front of maccas for 50c each…that's a cool $12.5

  • +3

Other items have gone up in price. BLT was $2 now $2.50.

  • Wonder if you.Can do the same trick as the chicken n cheese

  • Anyone know if the $1 frozen coke is going away?

    • $1 frozen coke is there to stay. Too much competition on the $1 frozen rollercoaster now to get off. Maybe if they were the ones who started the trend but they weren't (HJ were I believe). I suspect these new cheapy range is to tempt the cheap bastards like myself who stopped at the $1 drink and it worked, now I spend $2.

If I was a cow I would be upset that my flesh is worth less than my milk.

    • lol

  • My local had these the other day.

Small shakes for $2. - part of the loose change menu. I'm pretty keen.
3 burgers and a shake for $5 would be pretty good :)

They also had a promotion screen for a small McFeast meal for $5 saying 'it's back'. I thought it never left though.

Just a heads up if anyone is interested. Chicken Big Mac, Cheeseburger shaker fries and banana shakes all start tomorrow (31st May). I'm unaware of pricing but will most like vary store to store.

    • More info needed……

    • Chicken BM?! Shaker fries?! Bana-shakes!? Sounds all alien to me. EXPLAIN

      • +1

Chicken Big Mac is going to be a big mac but the 10:1 meat is replaced with McChicken patties. The shaker fries are fries with a cheeseburger flavoured salt/seasoning and the banana shake is a thick shake that is banana flavoured.

        • Are the fries being upgraded annytime soon ?

  • I wish they would bring back $1 fries …

Can anyone explain why the price to change a burger to a meal differs between burgers? Also price varies store to store?

Usually prices are hidden, but eg an ofish meal + big mac costs less than a big mac meal + an ofish. It makes no sense.

The price to size a meal seems to be the same. Can't be sure tho.

I've worked out that nuggets seem to be the cheapest to change into a meal.

    • Can't explain it, but I like your effort in finding the cheapest options.
Interesting about the meal prices varying with the different meal option? (Depending which one gets the added fries and drink)

I've noticed the difference between small and medium meal is 65c. But the difference between medium and large meal is only 15c.
      (Prices via the app)

      • Didn't know there's any official price.

        Nuggets -> meal add ~$2
Quarter pounder -> meal add $4.15

  • I didn't check the start date and I ordered 5 - the guy asked for $10 and I looked confused.

I ordered the $5 quarter pounder deal instead.

  • Someone needs to find out how many I can order at once, hope its more than the usual 4. Would have to go drive thru and then park and go in store to pick up 8

    • In the past, I've asked for two seperate orders when going through drive through. One way to get around the max order rule. I've paid the two separate receipts.

    • Post edited.
      Apparently no limit on order.

  • just bought 3,

    OzBargain mathematician reporting in:

    Hamburger - $1 - 13 of protein
Quarter Pounder meal - $5 - 33g of protein = 2.5 hamburgers + tastes better + medium fries and drinks

$5 Quarter Pounder meal edges out $1 Hamburger deal (unless you are only after protein then is good deal. 130g protein / $10). Otherwise no deal for Senor Hamburger!

    • Stay in school kids, for those wondering:

Quater Pounder meal (with regular Coke as the drink): 980 Calories, 38.2g Protein, 103.7g Carbs, 45.1g Fats. ($5)

      x5 Hamburgers: 1260 Calories, 67g Protein, 137.5g Carbs, 47g Fats. ($5)

The hamburgers are not just better for protein value but also all other macro values; I would advise however to consider sticking to some high protein low fat food for the rest of the day as you're already consuming 47g fat with not a huge amount of protein intake, and you're even in a more troublesome state if you go for the Quater pounder meal to stick to an 'average' daily macro goal with the fat intake exceeding protein intake.

This post is to simply advise people that the hamburger meal is better deal for what you actually get on a macro per $ value. People can decide for themselves what kind of taste they are craving. You made the mistake of trying to compare something that costs $1 to something that costs 5 times more.

      • -3

Good work. You forgot the part where 5x hamburglers taste like dry crap as you're mostly eating just processed bread. Also you forgot the part where 5 hamburgers have about 2750mg of sodium compared to 1050 in a QP.

        • This post is to simply advise people that the hamburger meal is better deal for what you actually get on a macro per $ value.

Something that was too far beyond your post.

@aaronza: Something beyond your sense of understanding the original post was a joke. But thanks for your essay. It was entertaining to read.

Me at box Hill maccas this morning.

Hey, can I get two 3 for 3s please?
    That ended yesterday.
    I got 3 yesterday. Whatever, can I grab a $1 hamburger?
Do we do those, no, sorry.

Goes down to station, sees giant sign saying $1 hamburgers now on.

Box Hill never have a clue. The other day there's a limit of two 3 for 3s, then a limit of one, then no limit, then back again.

    • I think alot of us have this kind of experience when dealing with maccas, my favourite recently was can I get the frozen coke and burger deal for $2 replied with "oh we dont do that deal sorry" Okay ill get a burger and frozen coke then. "Sure that will be $2 thanks"…….

  • I saw a banner that at my local McDonald's (Punchbowl NSW), that reads "$1 Cheeseburgers only Monday and Tuesday". Is this normal? Happened after they took off the banner for 3 For $3. Cause on the Loose Change Menu it says $1 Hamburger everyday. Is this ridiculous? Can anyone tell me if they have seen the banner "$1 Cheeseburgers only Monday and Tuesday" at there local McDonald's. Thanks

  • I've only been to Macca's once in the past year, as it was a late night munchie run, and they were the only ones open nearby. It's pretty much been Hungry Jacks' and KFC all the way. However this post got me back, not as a last resort but as priority destination hahaha

  • Had 4 $1 burgers for lunch.
    No complaints.

  • Smashed 4 $1 burgers for lunch, not bad.

Also ordered a Hot Apple Pie, told there would be a wait or I could have a Salted Caramel Pie, said I would wait, so the burgers went back to the warmer. 2 minutes later, order ready, walked to the local park open the bag and the pie was in a Caramel wrapper but the expiry sticker said Hot Apple Pie, just thought wrong packaging.

What do you think I got?

The foul Salted Caramel Pie that took a large black coffee to get the taste out of my mouth.

No wonder I haven't been back to Macca's for over 6 months.

  • Do they charge extra to add more pickles? 1 per burger just doesn't seem enough

    • +1

You can on the App, without a change in price, so you should able to do it in store.

But the App always says the price might be different depending on the store.

Only way to know is to go into a Macca's and try it on the ordering screen.

If you get what you asked for, that's another issue.

      • Free to add more pickles, ended up getting about 5 on each burger compared to 1 last week. (they do stack all 5 on top of each other though so you might want to re-arrange them)

  • Considering Macca's is obsessed with the copyright of thier Golden Arches I find it quite amusing that they use the TFL London Underground logo which itself has a worldwide copyright. (as seen on their facebook page)

    https://tfl.gov.uk/info-for/suppliers-and-contractors/logo-r…

  • I've found the salted caramel pies are about 3/4 the length of the applle pies so quite small, no way i would pay more than $1.50 for one after midnight. Maccas is too damn expensive compared to HJ, i must admit the ice creams products are better quality though, hj seem like more filler/water in the sundaes etc.
