Destiny 2 Bargain Guide (Australian)

Hello Everyone,

With Destiny 2 releasing on September 8th 2017 I thought I'd create a post for users to bring forth the various ways they'll be buying the game. I'm after the PS4 version of the game along with just the digital add-ons (Expansion Pass)and have come up with the following.

The rumoured price for the Expansion pass standalone is $40 USD which today (29/05) translates to about $54 AUD.

JB-Hi-Fi has the base game on PS4 and Xbox One for $89 and PC for $79: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/?q=destiny%202&

JB, likewise also has a Limited Edition priced at $149. This includes the base game, Expansion Pass, Premium Digital Content (Legendary Sword, Legendary Player Emote and Cabal Empire Themed Emblem), Limited Steelbook Case and Cabal Themed Collector's Box with some extra physical goodies inside. Their Pre-order bonus also includes an exclusive Destiny 2 POP VINYL: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/games-consoles/platforms/playstati…

Option 3 but not 100% confirmed is banking on Big W or Target dropping a day one release price of $69, this would put a different approach to picking up the game. If this prediction holds true, picking up a Standard copy with either of the two retailers plus purchasing PSN or Xbox Live dollars separately would mean a cheaper bundle:

Std Game = $69 + $55 PSN or Xbox Live = $124

There is also the possibility of a retailer having a sale on digital currency as often seen in catalogues. September of 2016 I recall Big W having a 20% sale on PSN and Xbox Live currency as I picked up FIFA 17 and a lot of PSN for a cheaper price.

This is just a discussion and some of this information will change, but where will you be picking up your copy? Fancy the Limited Edition or do you just want the game?

On US playstation store you can get the game for 89.99 with expansion pass (120AUD). I'm waiting for one of those PayPal sales where we can save 20$usd for spending over $100usd.

Something else to consider for Australian PSN purchases is the 5$ off $100 Woolworths egift cards. You can use these two purchase pretty much anything including psn cards from the supermarket. True oz bargaining here, will save you small amounts on your digital purchases

    • Awesome points there! Who knows what retailers and the PSN store will offer us closer to September, regardless there'll be a few different methods for people to pick this game up!

    • Turns out there is a June US playstation store promo. Spend 100USD get $15USD back.

      https://www.gamespot.com/articles/get-15-back-when-you-spend…

This means you'll have to spend an extra 10.01 if you are getting the game and expansion pass on US store to qualify bringing it down to $101AUD. This is the cheapest way to get Destiny 2 and expansion pass currently.

Or if you are getting the digital deluxe the cost after Cashback will be $114AUD (a saving of 35$AUD from the Australian playstation store)

      • Do you think the Premium Digital Content (Legendary Sword, Legendary Player Emote and Cabal Empire Themed Emblem) are worth pre-ordering the LE? Or just wait Day One for the inevitable $69 copy and buy Season Pass?

It's only a few dollars extra for the Le digital so it's probably worth it for a lot of players. Destiny 2 is one of those rare games we know we will get plenty of value from it and may enjoy those cosmetic digital items in the LE.

I think buying physical copies is always cheaper in the long run as you can sell it later on eBay or Gumtree. Then again, digital players get to play first which may be more important to some.

      • The $15 USD Cashback offer is now in effect on the US Playstation Store. This appears to be the cheapest place to purchase Destiny 2 digitally. Offer ends June 20

  • Anyone have suggestions about getting the PC version?

My understanding is the PC version won't be available through steam but instead will work through blizzard's DRM. I think you can still purchase the egift cards from Woolworths at 5% off to spend on the blizzard platform. Just check that your local Woolworths has that blizzard currency.

    • 100% accurate on the Blizzard DRM thing, IIRC it used to be called Battle.net

      • 68GB Rumoured as the total size for Destiny 2 at least on the console version.. I can only imagine the size and download amount digitally on console or PC.. I've got a solid connection but I feel for our brothers who don't..

        • Yeah I'm not looking forward to the download by any stretch. Andromeda took 3 whole nights of downloading to actually finish as-is.

        • @WillRay92: Surely purchasing the physical will mean less of a wait? $79 as it stands isn't too bad for the base game and for all we know my prediction may come true.. Chances are on Day One if you walk into EB and say Big W has it for $69 they'll more than likely price match for you.. I've done it for the last 4 titles I've picked up.. They would rather take the sale than let you walk..

        • @ThePriceMatchGuy: Actually funny you mention a physical copy, because JB has a "thing" on launch day where they knock a bit off the price for buying it on day one. For Andromeda, it was $10 less.

        • @WillRay92: So a $69 Day One price isn't out of the question? I mean honestly even paying $99 for a game like this will be worth it, pending you sink the 1000's of hours I've heard people have done. Destiny 2 will be great, regardless what people say.

        • @ThePriceMatchGuy: Well put it this way, I wasn't aware of the price drop when they just offered it.

        • @ThePriceMatchGuy: on ozbargain we aim to get products at their cheapest prices, can't figure how much something is worth into that :D

Oh did not even know this was a thing, thanks for sharing!

I'm hanging out to see what editions are available through Blizzard. Collector's Eds are all sold out, hopefully can get a digital collectors ed with the prem. digital content

      • More than welcome Ninja! :) I'm a sucker for any digital content that will give me an edge! So far JB's edition is winning!

    • Destiny is going to be distributed by Blizzard?!

      • +1

Well yeah, Activision and Blizzard merged years ago and I can imagine that they're getting sick of the take that goes to Valve.

  • I've heard that the pc version is coming out after the console versions. More reason to wait and see how it goes before buying.

  • Given for PC it's a Battle.net title… What's the chance of enforcing a price drop, ala Overwatch, by changing account to TW? ;)

    • Hush my mouth…. Changing Battle.net to TW brings the price of standard to $79AUD; JB Hi-fi sell the physical copy for that price.

  • Hey does anyone know if Australia Big W will be selling Destiny 2 this year? I can't seem to find it for any platforms (mine being Xbox One) and Target has released the game for preorder at $59. Usually these 2 companies fight over who can sell most games for the cheapest price so it's odd that Big W has gone MIA.

    • Chances are they will most likely have it on sale but are just slack with their marketing/ listing before the release of the actual thing. You're talking about Target Australia? $59?! That is cheap, even for their standards!

    • Hey mate, did you actually see the $59 pre-order somewhere?

JB have it for $69 at the moment, think that's the cheapest?

      • It's actually $59 and I got EB to price match it which comes with a small figurine of some sort.
        https://www.jbhifi.com.au/games-consoles/platforms/pc-game/d…

        • I asked EB to price match and was told they would match the lowest price on release day.

          What did you get told?

        • @Noraneko: I just showed them the JB website on my phone and they said it was fine. They only price match bricks and mortar stores which JB is. All they do is that they put a note on their system that I will only be paying $59 since I payed a $10 deposit not the full amount. From experience different stores will have different approaches to price matching so I suggest you try another store or order online or instore from JB to get that price (only an extra few dollars to get it delivered if you live far away from a JB). Good luck!

      • $69 for PS4 & X1; $59 for PC.
Would expect Big W to match JB.
EB will have it at standard $99.95 price for console.

  • Don't forgot to claim Destiny 2 PC if you buy a GTX1080 or GTX1080Ti. Bought a card earlier today, registered it on the Asus site and had the code sent within 30s.

    • Does the game run well? Can you change the FOV? I tried playing Destiny 1 on PS4 and almost vomited after 10 mins

      • No idea as the PC release date is Next Tuesday. Spec's don't sound too taxing:

        Destiny 2 PC recommended specs

        CPU (Intel): Intel Core i5-2400 3.4 GHz or i5 7400 3.5 GHz
CPU (AMD): AMD Ryzen R5 1600X 3.6 GHz
GPU (Nvidia): Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB or GTX 1060 6GB
        GPU (AMD): AMD R9 390 8GB
        RAM: 8GB

  • Guys admittedly I got lucky but similar bargains can be had using the ebay deal:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/328082

I just picked up Destiny 2 with DLC and Cayde doll for $80 after the discount in the deal above. I'm pretty happy :)
There are a few listings popping up on ebay today for seemingly unwanted to copies so keep an eye out.
Obviously if it's less than $75 you will have to make up the rest but even the base game at $55 is cheaper then the Big W deal atm which is $64.

    • Damn missed it. Hopefully they bring the deal/a similar one back
