Best Durable and Comfortable Bed Sheets (Queen)

Mid year sales time looms and our sheet sets are up for replacement. It's been a long time coming so I'm out of the loop. Any recommendations? Know to avoid putting too much faith in thread counts. Have never tried bamboo so that might be worth a shot. Also haven't ever tried cotton sateen but not sure ….they sound slippery! Probably prefer a more substantial feeling sheet (if that makes sense). Only interested in natural fibres.

Any brand recommendations? Sheridan (currently have these)? Canningvale? Bhumi? Kogan Ovela? Others?

Don't mind paying a decent amount (at sale price of course) for durability.
Looking forward to new bed threads

Durability? You are just showing off.

    • Ha ha! Perhaps I should have said long lasting with normal wear and tear!

Buy Durex, for when you need longer lasting fun without worrying about wear and tear

  • Look out for the bedding sheet (1000 thread count) deals on catch of the day

Just don't buy based on thread count. see my previous comment and a somebody who regretted buying from COTD

Thread counts are measured using different standards — a 1000TC Ovela set isn't the same as a 1000TC set from Sheridan.

There's also different blends and types of materials to consider. Generally pure cotton is what most people are after, and possibly Bamboo cotton blends. With bamboo, you shouldn't tumble dry them too much because they could shrink, fibers become dry (brittle) and possibly even warp.

Sateen and percale are not material types. These refer to how the cloth is woven. Percale is common for lower TC sheets and percale actually results in a crisper sheet, that's less likely to crumple after you've done your business in bed….

Sateen is most common. This image shows how it compares to Percale, this weave type results in a silkier touch but there is more exposed surface area which makes the cotton smooth but more vulnerable to eventual wear and tear. This type of weave is the most popular.

I purchased some In 2 Linen 'Commercial Grade' Cotton Fitted Sheets, i.e. http://in2linen.com.au/in-2-linen-commercial-grade-cotton-qu…

It's thick and stiff. 100% Cotton from Turkey or Pakistan. I can't remember which.

I quite like it, but my wife doesn't.

It takes a few washes to soften up, but it's thick and durable. Cheap too.

We also have 800TC and 1200TC Sheridan and of course these are a lot smoother, but thinner. The In 2 Linen feels like it last 2-3 times longer than the Sheridan.

I agree with scrimshaw, Thread Count isn't the be all or end all when it comes to Manchester. Give me a good 400TC cotton over crappy 1000TC cotton any day.

I also suggest you check out Adairs- Mercer + Reid Hotel 1000TC

    https://www.adairs.com.au/bedroom/sheets/mercer-reid/hotel-1…

Very good quality and good value for money. Much better value than 1200TC Sheridan (we have both).

    • Thanks JB1. Do those Adairs ones have a shiny (sateen) finish? Can't see in the item description.

        I think they are

    • These are currently top of my list. Be nice if another $30 off code popped up!

  • I've also been procrastinating on what new sheets to buy, cotton or bamboo 🤔

I've been tempted to get the L.L.Bean Pima Cotton Percale Sheets mentioned in this review, I'm more than likely though going to go to Target and pick up a fitted sheet of their 100% cotton 500TC sheets that go on sale tomorrow for $29 and either go back for more or look at other options.

    • Thanks. Please let me know what you decide and what you think of your purchase.

    • Interesting article (the sweet home). Seems at odds with some of the reviews on LL Bean on their own website though, Will read more thoroughly tomorrow. Thanks for you input

      • Yeah, a lot to digest, one of the reasons for my prolonged procrastination ;)

  • KAZ factory outlet in Alexandria on the weekend had upto 75% off cushion, cushion covers, bed linen towels and throws.

picked up some kids printed quilt cover sets (double) for $25 marked down from RRP $80 the wife bought ac ouple queen sized quilt cover sets at $35-$55 marked down from like $200

quality is pretty good as we've bought from there in the past, another sale will be on 16-18th june

    • Sounds great. I like Kaz colors. Is that sale online as well (I see they have a 40% off sale atm)?

      • i don't think it's online.

        • Pity. Thanks though

  • I really like my Sheridan ones. I've also had a few sets from Target (high thread counts) which I was happy with.
