[XB1] Xbox One Elite Controller + Forza Horizon 3 Bundle $199 @ EB Games

370

I personally think this is a very good deal, the controller is very customizable and the little extra weight doesn't bother me.
Resell value of Forza Horizon 3 is still around the $45-$50 mark, so if you sell the game, you end up getting the controller for around $150 which is a bargain.

Add $8.20 for postage or check local stock for click and collect.

Why is this controller so expensive

    • +2

Build quality is excellent and its main appeal would be it is highly customizable. From being able to use different d pads, configuring buttons and the extra paddled on the back. Controller wont be for everyone but it's a great deal for those that always wanted to get one.

build quality is exactly the same as the standard. They use cheap internal components that break just the same.
only real difference is the gimmick of swapping thumb sticks and d-pad and the extra gimmick paddles on the back instead of pressing face buttons.
As someone who repairs controllers they are NOT worth the $150.

you can buy an elite kit and do it yourself for $18 of less off ebay and it's practically identical.

Hey bud, can you link this kit or tell me what to search? I'm keen as to try this!

        • @kimlo:
          the thumbsitck and dpad: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bumper-Trigger-Button-Replacement…

search for xbox one elite controller kit, something along those lines ;)

        • I have an original XB1 controller that has a button that's stuck down, any tips on how to unstick it?

        • +1

@Chodas: you'd need to pretty much dismantle the controller to see if the membrane beneath the face buttons is broken or stuck. you could try isopropyl alcohol to see if it's just stuck with gunk

        • @Vlaka: Thanks mate I'll give it a go

        • @Chodas: no worries, good luck with it :)

        • have you used one? because i have, and i can tell you the build quality is not the same.

whilst i wouldn't pay the $200 or whatever they retail for, they definitely do feel a lot nicer than the standard ones.

the thumbsticks feel extremely smooth (i believe they are metal rather than plastic), the controller has a nice textured finish, and there is a good weight to the controller too.

is it worth the price? to me, no. but ill admit that theyre they nicest controller ive used.

I wouldn't go so far as to say the Elite Controller has excellent Build quality, I'd actually say it's pretty poor considering it's price point and intended end user.

I picked up an Elite Bundle shortly after release and within a month the Controller started having stick drift, and I only used it a few hours each week. I managed to exchange it and the second controller I picked up had an issue with it's right trigger getting stuck, as well as stick drift out of the box (and it was brand spanking new out of the box). In the time I've had it (about a year and a half) I've been through 5 controllers for various different problems, the latest having stick drift (again) and a peeling rubber grip. There are tons of posts about these sorts of problems on Reddit and Whirlpool.

Now, I'm not going to lie, I love the controller, and I would recommend it to anyone despite my troubled history with it. I'm a pretty casual player, who doesn't get much Xbox time, but once you get used to it, the controller certainly does help improve performance in games, mostly because the paddles and hair triggers are amazing.

If it wasn't for my local EB's willingness to swap controllers over when Microsoft was being a pain, I'd probably be advising not to buy one. So the point of this? It's just worth noting that if you buy one, you may be in for hardware headaches, so make sure your nice to your local EB folks in case you do need to swap it over.

    • I have two standard controller. When it went out of warranty, the controller start to drift by itself. And the game became unplayable.
Because Microsoft make cheap standard controller from China its easily breaks.

  • Awesome controller, really good game. Excellent deal.

  • I think I got the controller on it's own a month or two ago for ~$140.

Yeh I picked mine up a few months ago with one of the eBay discount codes and paid $145 for just the controller. Haven't regretted it!

  • Best controller there is, highly recommended.

I feel sad when i have to pick up my other controller and i dont get to use the Elite….
One thing to keep in mind, the Elite is not bluetooth so it wont connect to your laptop/computer via bluetooth.

So this is like using a PS4 controller on the PC, except more than double the price. Added benefit that the PS4 controller uses bluetooth so you can use it on your phone/laptop/pc etc.

  • Oh please, no controller is ever worth that much.

  • Controller is fantastic for fast paced fps, like Titanfall, destiny, halo.. Not very useful for other genres

  • I heard the next controller can be Split in two and you can give one to a friend. With that said, this is a decent controller all things considered at least they're kind of trying, but revamping it more is the way to go.

  • It's also $199 at JB Hi-Fi.

    • Same bundle? Checked online and it's $199 just for the controller.

      • It's in the new catalogue. I'll submit a deal after dinner.

        • Ah cool, looks like a few people might start releasing bundles with the controller!
