Convince me not to buy a TV from Kogan

Hey guys,

Thinking of buying this:

https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-series-9-43inch-mu9000-ag…

Obviously I've heard the horror stories and also the good stories.

Looking for anyone with this particular tv (or the other sizes of this gen) to comment on quality etc

On the flipside, can anyone convince me not to buy it?

Thanks!

Disgusting service! We ordered a refurbished drone with warranty- they sent us a faulty one and then blamed it on us. Said there was nothing wrong with it and we will have to deal with it. We paid almost $1k…. After the much requested 2nd assessment by their tech team, they indeed found out it was faulty and this entire process took 3months!!! We had to chase them on a weekly basis and all we got were generic emails telling us to wait. The worst was having them tell us there was nothing wrong with it and we will just have to keep it. It was a nightmare and we never received any sincere apologies just an annoyed voice over the phone that sounded dismissive and couldn’t care less. STAY AWAY FROM KOGAN!

      • Thanks for becoming a member

      • The whole point of Kogan is that they import low cost and sometimes so-so quality goods for very cheap. It's sort of implicit in dealing with them. If something goes wrong, it will be a bit painful dealing with them and take a while. But you can buy 5x more stuff than you could from Harvey Norman for your $

Yes you had to wait a while for the drone to be replaced and no, a drone isn't that critical to me. I've had a Kogan TV and Mower go bad and both were replaced but neither was particularly fast or efficient. That's what you should expect from Kogan.

Don't buy this, not worth the risk when you could get a larger TV from ALDI who has a much better returns policy. Their TVs normally get good reviews for picture quality, but bad reviews for audio and smart capabilities. I don't have an ALDI tv yet, but it will probably be my next buy when my old LG Plasma fails.

my brother has a 45" (or so) Kogan TV. it's about 4 years old and has an excellent quality picture.

I was impressed when I first saw it.

Kogan are one of the worst retailers in Australia in terms of honouring their obligations under Australian Consumer Legislation.

The ACCC have taken them to court a number of times and won.

However, they are cheap and if you're happy with the TV and it doesn't fail, as it probably won't, you'll have gotten a good deal

That is so true. Same issue here. They just ignore consumer law and hope they don't end up in tribunal

    Awesome thanks everyone!

Think I'll hold off for a bit but who knows what could happen after a few beers at home

Save your money and keep your current TV.

Or for an extra $130 odd you can pick up this 55 inch 4K model, which has a lot more real estate…

Or personally I would rather buy this Kogan model instead because it's cheaper and bigger and has a higher discount:

I bought a 55" kogan 4K when it was around $400 a couple of months ago. Absolutely horrific amounts of light bleeding when you're looking at a totally black screen (and what fun is that anyway), however it's fine when you're watching normal content. Overall, I think for the price I paid it's good value.

Wait for a JB HI FI sale.

  • They were sent via Toll - unsure whether or not they still are but I'd say that they are.

Any who, I new a guy that specifically said never to buy a kogan TV because their conveyer belt wasn't wide enough to lay the TVs down.. So they would always fall over and smash.. Then they would simply put it back on the conveyer and continue on as normal.

I also had a friend that bought one. First one failed within the hour. Second one is okay.

I'd recommend soniq for the cheaper end of the market. I've personally never had any issues with the 2 soniq TVs I've had. But if anything does go wrong its extremely easy to get a replacement.. If you buy it from jbhifi.

Bought the 65" mu9000 when it was on sale last week.

4k content looks awesome such as Xbox one s. HD content looks good.

    Tv is super Bright

However Non HD and non 4k content that is upscaled is very poor. Considering returning the item due to this fact.

It also has light bleed on black screen.

    Hope this helps

Kogan, TCL and Changhong TVs are most common flat panel brands of TVs I see dumped for council kerbside collection.

  • Kogan is rubbish

  • Cos there's better locally for a similar price.

  • This post needs a poll option to be sure.

    • You know what the results will be like so it will be pointless.

In addition to my previous comment.

After watching the blues smash the maroons tonight the viewing experience was extremely tiring ! My eyes are sore form trying to adjust to the TVs lag a as it can't keep up with fast sports and was very blurry.
    Such a disappointment.
    Will be returning asap !

    • Yeah I have a 5 year old kogan 55 (pre 4k / smart tv), and yeah, the lag on fast motion is frustrating - watching blueray avengers movies makes me a sad panda :(

Well I was gunna buy from the so called KOGAN range but diverted back to my trusty "harvey give me a bargain chain".
Why trusty you ask, well I take advantage of the 50/60 mth payment no interest plan that I know I can budget for and at the same time I take out their warranty plan as well, that carries on after the manufactures warranty so that it covers at least 1 yr after I have paid for it.
Like all retailers I have had the odd appliance go fizz no work and have had them replaced by the HN group with no hassles what so ever, even had the warranty honoured on the replacement or taken out a new warranty with them and on one I had a completely new model as the older was not available any more.
So your Question Nope Kogan give em a miss most of their units are bought in via overseas and when you claim a warranty you are in deep water trying to convince them the defect and most times cannot get a local repairer to do the job.

  • Tv's are the only thing I would recommend from Kogan.
We bought a 32 for our spare room like 4 years ago.
Gets watched most days and has never failed us.

The other electronics they sell though…. wouldn't tough ever again.
Their servicing policy is on existent. We had a blu ray player fail three times and in end we just threw it out. Got sick of trying to get it repaired.

  • Mate, could you turn on your pm pls? So can tell you how to save more on your Kogan purchases.

    • Done!

      • PM-ed.

  • It's your money, I can cope with whatever you want to do with it.
