Performance Overview

Berlin Philharmonic Principal Horn Stefan Dohr and conductor Johannes Debus make their WASO debuts.

Inspired by Botticelli’s painting Primavera, Debussy’s early symphonic suite Printemps already shows his predilection for ‘impressionist’ harmonies. By contrast, Richard Strauss’ Second Horn Concerto blazes with late-style brilliance.

Elgar himself described his Second Symphony as “the passionate pilgrimage of the soul”. Its aching tenderness and melancholy is typically Elgarian, but the astonishing orchestral colours, audacious design and sheer power are breath-taking and make it one of the twentieth-century’s greatest symphonies.

Fair, but it does say WASO, which means most in WA with an interest in this type of music will know that it's in / around Perth.

      • I see what you're saying, but non-Perthian's click on it to see it's not applicable to them.
At least I know what WASO means now, cheers

  • Under 30 is cheaper?

  • $5.50 booking fee for venue pickup

  • Wish this was in Sydney
