Is there a suburb in Sydney not affected by aircraft noise?

Hi

I live in Drummoyne and aircraft noise is very annoying. Disturbed by planes on any day, not able to have a nap in the afternoon if I want to, woken up at 6am while I am in deep sleep on Sunday etc.
I am renting so can change suburb, just looking for suburb where is safe and quiet. Some people suggest I will get used to that but live here couple years and it is not getting better.
Thanks:)

those are very vague parameters. what are your other criterias? access to cbd/public transport? cafe scene? shopping?
    this is the flight path

Looks like planes fly over Drummoyne to land at the airport, so likely it's probably the worse place to live if you are allergic to the sound of low-altitude aircraft

    • those paths are very straight, no plane flies that straight

Some do but they mostly fly on a spectrum with straight being on one end.

    • Dont have to be close to cbd. I am considering the nothern suburbs or the shire.

    I enjoy the noise

You do actually get used to the noise. I grew up next to an air base and slept like a baby most of my life.

So you woke multiple times every night crying?

        In a faeces filled nappy?

Yes. Is that not normal? My shrink said it wasn't normal but I thought they were just trying to get me to pay for more sessions

      Hearing loss

  • move to Strathfield, sometimes we can hear a couple but 99% nothing.

      OP will still complain

    I hear mascot is good

      What? I can't hear you!

    • You joke but currently living on the top level of an apartment block near Green Square station. Right in the middle of everything but too high up for any traffic noise and although we can see planes coming and going at the airport, we've never heard anything. I think it's about making sure you're not right under flight paths, not necessarily just far away from the airport.

  • Yes.

  • Yeah, Bega isn't affected by it.

Badgery's Creek is quiet at the moment.

      Yes:)

That sound like a good place to relocate

  • first world problems
    - "not able to have a nap in the afternoon"

    • I would say basic requirement to have peaceful environment

  • Blacktown, Mt Druit, Cabramatta probably don't have much aircraft noise.

but the noise from your neighbours meth lab as the chemicals boil away might keep the OP awake at night too

      • +3

and it can be hard to sleep when your neighbour upstairs is tuning his harley davidson in the loungeroom.

        • Exactly;)

  • Besides moving away from flight paths you might also want to consider sleeping with ear plugs - if you're a light sleeper then anything would wake you. Investing in some comfortable earplugs from Bunnings or elsewhere might be a good start for your problem.

  • Already become expert in ear plugs products:)) Tried many types but silicone ones are the best for me;)
But yes, moving away from flight path is the only option for me.

    • Yep the silicone swimming ones don't hurt after a few minutes. I wake up and they have disappeared though…usually near my butt.
