  • just got an inverter powered microwave, will never go back to a traditional one!

    • Much better than regular microwaves.

how good they are ? thanks.

it's quicker and heats evenly. with traditional microwaves, there are cold spots. it's also quicker to defrost and ice melts evenly. it's also a lot quieter.

        • @seigweilo:

Mine's a Panasonic btw, just commenting about the type of microwave.

          @seigweilo:

Ditto. It doesn't blast full power on and off. It uses the power level you want continuously. Much more gentle.

Having a grill feature would be ideal!

  • Is 900w enough or a bit annoying? Anyone got one?

I have had this microwave for some 5 months. It's an average microwave, nothing special. The heat/microwave seems to come out in a narrow beam, I heat up half a mug of cows milk in a mug for my 18mo daughter, putting it in the middle often takes 40 seconds to get from fridge temp to slightly warm (which I thought was pretty long for 100mL milk), but if I move it to another certain location, takes 25 secs and is too hot.

The "dual" function grill type feature, used this for the first few weeks, it's a novelty, I quickly went back to a stove top, it's not bad if you don't mind washing the interior of the microwave each time you cook. The "porridge" coooking features, baked bean heating features… I didn't find helpful/easy or consistent and resorted back to my stove top methods.

The menu system isn't the most intuitive.

If I had my money again I'd probably buy a more mainstream model (Sharp/Sanyo/Panasonic). I paid $299 for it initially, I certainly wouldn't be happy with a $449 price, it's probably a $250 microwave. Please note I'm a Breville fan, I have heaps of their gear (inc dual boiler BES coffee machine), this microwave easily the worst of their stuff I own (in my opinion).

It's also reasonably noisy and has a prolonged cool down function after heating your food up. If you have a kitchen near the lounge like my setup, you'll need to really crank TV volume or pause your show.

Panasonic are good. I actually thought they were the only ones who made inverters. Shows what I know 😊

      • I believe the inverter tech is a Panasonic patent and licence it to other brands.

Breville The Quick Touch Crisp BMO700 scored 80% and was recommended by choice if that helps anyone.

Only one microwave scored 90% everything else was in the 80's.

    • Which one microwave scored 90% please?
If everything else scored 80, all will be recommended ?

12 of 41 were recommended…all with scores 80% or above.

Sharp R330YS was top rated with 90%

        Sharp R350YS 87%
Breville The Quick Touch BMO735 87%

I have a 900w and an 1100w microwave. Most things require about 30-50% longer on the 900watt.
