Cashrewards not tracking high eBay transactions

Hi guys, it has happened to me twice now. Every time I spend a high amount on ebay cashrewards doesn't track. First time after submitting enquiry the claim was rejected, despite attaching receipt.

Second time they have honoured it, despite ebay hasn't replied.

I am thinking of using a different cash back company which has a more reliable tracking system. Any suggestion is welcome. Thanks

Check with your dog, he might have received them..

  • +1

And what reason is the claim rejected?

    • Hi basically for some reason it doesn't track. Both times is because ebay doesn't reply. Second time they honoured, but just as a goodwill gesture. I am after a more realiable cash back company.

      • Tracking is done by the affiliate networks and will be the same for every Cashback service. CR emphasise not to use Adblock, but having an AV or any other plugin blocking/clearing cookies will prevent an affiliate network from tracking your purchase as the majority of them are cookie based.

Doesn't help either when people are signed out of their OzB account and click on deals as OzB use affiliate links on guests.

  • The best thing to do is screen record it as proof.

It's very easy for them just to ignore you, and claim it's your fault.

    • Thanks for the tip!

  • +1

yep same but it's always with me been 50/50. I seems to be making purchases on my phone instead of the laptop works better.

    • I thought so to until my 3 weeks of booking hotels night by night with no cashback coming through…

  • +2

This has happened to me too and I'm fully aware of the procedure to follow.

  • +4

clear your cookies and use the cashback extension for chrome.

Of course! You are on OzBargain right? You do know that MS pay you to use Bing?

      • Naw they've had a rewards program since Bing started. So they've always been desperate ;)

    • +2

The catch is that Bing is shit.

  • Velocity? Haven't had any eBay transaction rejected by them so far while I haf experienced the "transaction not tracking" issue with CR (before they introduced the no enquiry policy)

  • My Cashback balance from 3 weeks ago..
Here is a high value purchase on ebay being successfully tracked

Hope the below steps I wrote about my own setup help you:
    1) I never use private browsing. My browser is Chrome Desktop on Windows 10 Pro if that helps.. AV software is Kaspersky internet security.
    2) I whitelist the target shopping site on my adblockers or disable it temporarily (p.s. my adblockers are on for ebay.. they ALWAYS track every time without fail)
    3) I add to cart the stuff I want on the site or add to wishlist, cookies would save the cart, or some sites link your cart to your account on the website. Make sure I'm signed into the site. So I don't have to login later.
    4) Close the tab. Head to cashrewards website, type the shop name and click through
    5) Click on Cart and pay
    6) If the cart is empty or doesn't save (rarely happens..) then go write down the stuff you need to add to cart, so that Step 4->5 has minimal time.

    • Wow thanks for this very detailed response, I will try it :)

      • It's okay, hope it helps you :)
Education is the key to the success of our world!

    • Which adblocker do you use?

I've basically reached the same workflow. I'm considering jumping into Incognito mode at step (4) (no add-ons installed there).

      • Incognito goes into "do not track mode".. Dumps cookies if it can, would advise against it for cashback tracking cookies.
Adblocker: adblock plus and adblock, you only need one

        • I'm not sure that's technically correct. What I believe is happening is that cookies are restricted to that incognito session and gets deleted as soon as you close the browser. (Going to http://www.whatarecookies.com/cookietest.asp in incognito still shows them as enabled)

I would love to be proved wrong though!

        • @AncientWisdom:
I'm going to stick with my method because it works. If it aint broke dont fix it.

However if its broken (like the OP of this thread), best to try reportedly successful methods.

Does yours always track 100% of the time? Curious to see others experience because every setup is different

        • @cwongtech: I haven't tried it, at the moment I'm using the same workflow as you, but still get some transactions not tracking. I was thinking of trialling the Incognito method as a way to reduce user error (me forgetting to disable ad-blocker and tracker blocker).

      • ebay australia doesn't even show up for me in cashrewards using chrome incognito, normal mode shows up though.

  • It's usually Dan Murphy & Agoda that decline mine. Happily, not all - but usually the expensive ones.

Agoda often declines via email cash, also.

  • I use a cash rewards plugin for Chrome.

  • yes, not tracking high ebay transactions, happened twice to me as well, oven 2000 AUD now,no tracking.

  • Merged from Cashrewards not working on eBay purchases with higher values?

I've had eBay purchases routinely not getting CashRewards happening recently - but it only seems to happen on larger purchases…

    $950 on 24 Nov
    $500 on 24 Nov
    $45 on 28 Nov
$401 on 7 Dec (still early days but I'm pretty certain it's not coming through)

And YET - all the smaller purchases, every SINGLE one, has tracked - the latest being $2.72 on 27 Nov

Click History is working, showing that I'd click through on those times. I'm very pedantic about this, so I make sure I go to CashRewards every time right before eBay payment with no other window or other site clicks in between.

    Anyone having similar issues?

    • +1

Did you happen to use Coupon's with those purchases ?
As I was informed by Cashrewards the Coupon had to be listed on the Cashrewards site for the sale to count !
IN my case it wasn't listed.

    • Download the browser app and buy through that, works for me.

    • Interesting, as I had a similar issue when purchasing an item that cos $1088. Granted I did log into my Qantas Frequent Flyer first, then the Cashrewards website and had the Browser App also registering me as being signed in (change of colour from purple symbol to to green symbol stating that cashback had been activated). Raised the query with Cashrewards, but as OP stated, they couldn't see anything in my Click History (which I already knew) and based on this wouldn't / couldn't provide a cashback on this. Also interested to hear of others with similar issues.

    • Have you had the items in your watchlist for awhile?.."Do NOT add products to the eBay wishlist and purchase/bid over 24 hours later - this will result in you not earning Rewards".. https://www.cashrewards.com.au/ebay-australia

    • Items are all won through Auctions.

Only coupons used are the eBay listed ones, eg for Black Friday or P5OZZIE

      My normal routine:
      Win the Auction
Generally pay a few days later to consolidate transaction for the eBay discount
Then on the day of payment:
      - Go to CashRewards
      - Make sure I'm logged in by going to my balance and see that it's updated
      - Then search for 'ebay'
      - then go to eBay via the CashRewards link
      - then go to my eBay cart
      - then process payment with Paypal

Make sure there is no other clicks outside the above.

Items bought (Fixed Price) which are bought and paid immediately do not seem to have this problem.

    • I think this one is your problem.."Do NOT add products to the eBay wishlist and purchase/bid over 24 hours later - this will result in you not earning Rewards" as you are purchasing more than 24hrs later.

      • This doesn't explain why Buy It Now items in my cart (ie the real wishlist) gets tracked and paid by CashRewards when I eventually pay for them months later.

    • I didn't think an Auction that you've won is a wishlist (ie non-committed).

I would have thought the tracking is related to what is PAID for eBay/PayPal.

It would be good for CashRewards to clarify this issue because auctions are often for high value items, which you would want to use an eBay code for. And given eBay codes have limited transaction use, you would want to consolidate the payment.

You would also be more likely to bid higher if there was an eBay code for when the Auction was ending. More fees for eBay, more for CashRewards. It defeats the purpose if you can't consolidate payments.

    • Merged from Cashrewards Not Paying out Large Purchases

I had about 10 items purchased from eBay AU in Oct and Nov last year, worth about $4k in total. Today I logged in Cashrewards and noticed I only got paid for 2 items that worth less than $100. I guess the rumor is true, either their system is broken or they wouldn't pay out on large purchases.

      CR history: https://imgur.com/a/o05Lm

      Paypal History: https://imgur.com/a/KA6JX

After I submitted a ticket earlier today, the $472 item showed up in the history, but at the same time, I received the following reply:

*Occasionally the tracking we use from our advertisers does not work for one reason or another - Tracking technology is never 100% even today. We use the stores cookie based system and rely on this to pay cashback to our members. eBay have told us that their tracking system is extremely accurate and unrecorded reward transactions are generally due to one of the following issues… *

Looks like I'm the unfortunate one that had all the large purchases missing…

One more thing to mention is that some of the payment can take forever - large purchase of course:

Booked a holiday on Expedia through CR on 28 Feb 2017 and it is still showing pending - https://imgur.com/a/C7HW7

Anyway, guess I won't be using Cashrewards in 2018.

      • The last time I used CR my goods didn't track either and it was with iHerb but my purchase was a lot less than yours. I submitted a ticket and what you got about ebay is the exact same reply I got from about iHerb. Hmmmm..

I recently had enough of Cashrewards as some of the timeframes for payout were 6 months (e.g. iHerb) and they started rejecting or not tracking orders. So I started using the cash rewards scheme on our corporate offer site (reward gateway / mates rates). Just so you know, same experience. I have to assume it's the retailer ripping us off and not the cash reward company but I have decided to give up using it as it's too painful for little to no reward. When you see your balance build up you have an expectation you are entitled to it. But then it slowly gets rejected and then you feel peeved off.

Message to Cashrewards companies, make your retailers more accountable. You tracked the sale. Honour the cash back.

  • Yes this has been happening more and more lately

Buy 5 items in one ebay transaction ranging from $1 items to an item worth $500, it will track the 4 $1 items and not the $500 item which is extremely strange considering they’ve been paid for all at once in the same transaction.
I am starting to believe that they purposely don’t pay out on larger transactions as this isn’t the first time it’s happened to me.

    • +1

Hi. Have you raised a transaction query with CR? Happy to look into this if you'd please turn messaging on and PM me your CR email address. FYI, eBay treats all transacted items as separate purchases irrespective of how many items are in your cart. As for your last sentence, nothing is further from the truth - we're open to audit just like any other company. We receive a dump of all sales every few days from eBay and report these immediately into members accounts. Thank you.

  • This has happened to me as well. Purchases that were $500 and below tracked fine.

Multiple purchases that were high value (at least 10 purchases above $1000) were declined. I emailed cashrewards and received the below response (the items were not returns and any coupon I used were listed on the cashreward website):

Unfortunately on this occasion, your purchase made through eBay has been declined by the store. eBay does not provide any information or reason why this transaction has been declined, however they state that declined transactions are generally due to one of the following issues:
    the purchase (or part of the order) has been returned or cancelled;
    the purchase status has been changed by the seller;
although the retailer has tracked your transaction they have decided that it didn’t qualify under their terms; or
a coupon code was used that was not listed on Cashrewards in which case rewards may not be payable.

Subsequent follow ups led to nowhere as they said it was Ebay's decision to decline the cashback and Ebay will not accept transaction queries.

    Seems dodgy to me.

    • Just to clarify the transactions track (they take longer than usual but they track eventually), it's just that they are then declined for whatever reason I cannot understand.

      • Sent you a PM earlier today. Feel free to respond :)

  • I tried to chase up some eBay transactions through cashrewards where my click was recorded, and was told:

Whilst checking up on the documentation sent through for your eBay Australia purchases we have noticed that it is indicated a voucher was applied to your purchases.

Please note as per the eBay Australia store page on Cashrewards, "Payment using any type of voucher or eBay credit may result in your purchase being ineligible to earn rewards".

Unfortunately we will be unable to add these transactions into your account as they void the special terms laid out by eBay Australia.

I didn't use any voucher, just paid with PayPal, so I assume voucher = coupon? This must mean targeted coupons are not honoured, the store page does seem to say this.

    • Cashback may not be payable if you use a coupon code that is not listed on this site.

But I know for one transaction I used a targeted 10% and for the other transaction I inquired about I used the generic 5% off at the time, I think it was PICK5.

    Bit confused!

TA is an absolute champion and looked at the ticket I lodged and sorted it out ASAP. Super stoked, thanks again TA

  • This has been happening to me also. Ebay purchases around $100 and over don't track, anything less tracks fine.

Latest response to cashback claim was:

Whilst checking up on the documentation sent through for your eBay Australia purchase we have noticed that it is indicated a voucher was applied to your purchase.

Please note as per the eBay Australia store page on Cashrewards, "Payment using any type of voucher or eBay credit may result in your purchase being ineligible to earn rewards".

If you did not apply a voucher to your eBay Australia purchase and this discount is displaying the use of a coupon code, we kindly ask that you advise of the coupon code that was applied to your sale. Cashback may not be payable if you use a coupon code that has not been advertised on Cashrewards.

First time I'm hearing about vouchers voiding cashback.

    • +1

Hi bobjane. This condition has been in our terms for as long as I remember and is possibly the reason for your untracked purchases.

Payment using any type of voucher or eBay credit may result in your purchase being ineligible to earn rewards.

Happy to investigate further if you care to PM me. Thank you.

      • This particular claim has already been resolved thanks.

Every instance of mine has been a non targeted eBay discount code. All these codes were listed on the cashrewards page and hence should not void cashback.

It's not much use throwing (non applicable) T&C at people when there is obviously something preventing higher value purchases from tracking. Maybe you should work out what that is. Assuming it's not intentional.

        • +2

Wow, wasn't expecting that response. Comment & terms above refer to payments using a voucher (as a form of payment), as opposed to using a code (as a discount). They're two totally separate things. As to your other point, high value purchases track fine. I can give you at least a dozen reasons they haven't tracked for you, and willing to bet that if you supplied your transaction reference numbers, you'd find OzBargain or Google have been attributed with the sale/s, and therefore your commission has gone elsewhere rather than Cashrewards (and in turn to you). Anyway, the offer of help still stands. Thanks.

        • @tightarse:

Ok where is this transaction reference number? I'll give it to you.

You linked to 1 comment of successful tracking in a thread full of people saying otherwise. And yes I'm aware there's been more than 1 person saying their transactions track fine. My point still stands though.

I don't have ad blockers installed. I don't use incognito browsing since I'd have to log into CR, eBay, Paypal manually. I don't go around clearing my cookies halfway through an eBay checkout.

Let's say it's as CR says and the cause is ad blockers, private browsers, whatever. How are these things letting the 99c purchases track?

        • @bobjane: PM me your CR email address and we'll go from there. Thanks.

        • +1

          @tightarse:

Had some excellent correspondence with TA.

He reminded me that even though my higher value eBay transactions don't seem to track, they were paid in each case after filing claims. This is true.

However given my own experience and the many similar reports above, I can't help but think that it makes good economical sense for these transactions to remain untracked until the user decides to fill out a long form for the sake of 1 or 2 dollars.

        • +4

@bobjane: Like I said above, I don't blame CR. I blame the retailer. CR are the piggy in the middle copping all our frustration. But I think they can only go so far with the retailers out of fear of losing them. So they have to play nice on both sides. I stopped using them as I felt bad every time they gave me goodwill credit. Not right they are wearing the loss due to dodgy retailers.

Funny enough, when it comes to Flybuys, that shit is real time. And even refunds get deducted from your Flybuys in real time.

It shows that a tighter tracking system can happen if both sides make the investment.

I like to live on the edge.
CR still works with adblock on.. Even if they say to turn it off in T&Cs.
For large value purchases I always disable adblockers just in case.

  • I came here to create the exact same thread!

Thought I was doing something wrong (same browser as usual), but a few days ago I bought some network cables and got a cashback email notification for each item purchased! But never anything for big ticket purchases…

Here are my 2018 purchases which have failed to be tracked or refused:

    When What Discounted total Notes
18/02/18 Logitech keyboard (cancelled), router, network cables that never arrived (refunded) $52.80 ❌? multiple sellers, declined for not meeting criteria? code was listed on CW but ok… it's only a small amount
02/03/18 Google Pixel $475 after 5% PAY5LESS ❌ UNTRACKED! ebay seems to think a phone I'm using hasn't been delivered? Filed issue with CW but never heard back
    21/04/18 Sony KD60X6700E $945.25 after PULL5 5% code ❌ delivered and using but UNTRACKED!
27/04/18 optical to RCA converter, ethernet cables $31.35 after PULL5 5% code ✔️ small purchase? TRACKED BY END OF DAY

I feel its become false advertising, but not sure whether its an issue with CashRewards or ebay (more likely eBay as its usually higher total purchases). Doesn't feel right that CashRewards/TA keeps covering for it and we gotta chase it up every time.

    • All coupons used are listed on CW so no excuses there.
    • I use the same browser for both the TV and most recent purchase so it's not a technical issue (adblock disabled for CW/ebay, 3rd party cookies enabled)
    • Here's my CW click history before purchasing the TV because I didn't trust it be tracked
    • ninja edit: always paid with credit card via paypal
    • +1

Hi twig. Really want to help you here. A recent eBay click shows AdBlock is in fact enabled on occasion in your account. As I've stated numerous times, the issue is not Cashrewards. We can only report the sales that eBay (and other merchants) send us. Tracking is not run or controlled by Cashrewards, rather all our affiliate partners. There's an affiliate network that sits between Cashrewards and all merchants. Some examples of these are EPN (eBay Partner Network), Performance Horizon, Commission Factory, Commission Junction and so on. They track your sales, and they report those sales to us. This issue would exist for you no matter what cashback site you use, as we all use the exact same networks, and they all report to us in the exact same way.

As an aside, and please don't for one minute think this applies to you, we're finding a worrying trend of an increase with 'double dipping'. Some members will use one cashback site for purchase, while also clicking out via another, then have 2 or more cashback claims for the same purchase. Sad, but it happens. This is another reason for (1) untracked, and (2) declined cashbacks. Further, members sometimes have other tabs open such as comparsion sites, OzBargain, Google etc as they tend to click backwards and forwards to research products and therefore we lose the sale as the cookie is replaced with a click not belonging to Cashrewards. Always please make sure that Cashrewards is your very last click before purchase, and please disable AdBlock/uBlock. If you happen to use iOS Safari, please turn off Cross-Site Tracking as it's on by default.

Feel free to ping me as always if there's ever anything you need help with. Thanks. TA.

      • Hey TA,

Yep that "adblock on occasion" would absolutely correct. I browse ebay from my mobile (has adblock, no whitelisting, sometimes switching to "desktop mode" because the search filters work better) as well as from my desktop (adblock with whitelist) when purchasing.

I'm guessing the issue here is that whitelisting ebay/CW might not be sufficient due to the 3rd party affiliate network setup?

As for double dipping, I don't have any other cashback accounts other than CW.

Although the reply below from cwongtech says to close all tabs makes me wonder whether its the way I browse the site.
I often click ebay from CW, search for results and then open many (often more than 5) tabs from the search list to find the item I want, add it to my cart and then browse a bit more before purchasing.

And yeah sometimes I press the back button if I accidentally clicked on an item from the search results.

If it isn't too much trouble TA, can you confirm if this search/multi-tab browsing behaviour would cause issues with ebay tracking? It would be pretty shit if it does because it would discourage me from purchasing more items in a single transaction

        • +2

Hi twig. Thanks so much for the detailed response.

I too touched on the open tab issue above. I can guarantee this will cause an issue for you. Having open tabs and clicking backwards & forwards will 100% make you lose the original CR tracking cookie. This is why I always say to make sure the last click is from CR.

The best way to ensure this works is to do all your shopping on eBay first by researching and adding whatever you need to your cart. Once your cart is finalised and complete, close all your tabs, go back to CR, click out via Shop Now and buy. Do not click to any other site once you exist the CR eBay portal.

Also you mentioned earlier you received a separate tracking email for each item in your cart. A lot of (not all) eBay transactions are reported this way to us (as separate purchases). So in reality you could have 8 items in your cart and receive 8 tracking emails. We can only report on what eBay reports to us.

Please give this a shot and let me know how you go. Happy shopping :)

          @tightarse:

Guess I'll make do with cart pre-loading as you and cwongtech have suggested.

For now I'll wait for the CW claims process to do it's thing.

Thanks for the confirmation TA, highly appreciate the quick responses (even though you're probably not meant to be working Sundays)

    • +2

Always please make sure that Cashrewards is your very last click before purchase - TA

I've always done this and had zero issues with tracking.
I like to add all my stuff to the ebay cart since it's linked to ebay ID now not cookies only.
Then I close out all my ebay tabs, and then click ebay through CashRewards which opens up a new ebay session, go to Cart (with all the stuff saved), and checkout.
      100% success rate this way.

      • Can confirm, this works for me too.

  • How often does ebay update to cashrewards? I made a purchase today, and a few hours laters is not in my cashrewards accounts as a purchase (although the click history is there)…

  • I beleive I lost a great deal of cash back due to the use of Privacy Badger.
