eBay 2 Prices from 2 Web Browsers

Found this by accident google Chrome was running slow flicking back and forth between IE 11 surfing Ebay I pasted the URL into chrome and got a higher price.
Chrome has Cashrewards app.

M6 x 25mm 50 pieces IE 11 price $14.75 AUD not logged in
m6 x 25mm 50 pieces Google Chrome price $15.53 AUD logged in

Took screen shots of both URL's the sellers not offering the discount on Chrome but offers it on IE 11 so sometimes you could be 3.7% better off not using Cash rewards by the looks of this.

Lol no… 1 of those has a 5% saving probably coz you already have it in cart, that's all.

There's a discount if you buy 2 or more you get 5% off. 1 of those pages is picking up on it

    Maybe go have a coffee…

    • Probably? Also there's an empty cart symbol.

I think it's rather curious and would like to know what is happening. Could it be that that they're adding the cost because of the Cashrewards affil relationship?

That is they charge more for users when they have to pay a commission to CR. Which would mean CR users are getting ripped off … kinda.

I'm really baked but I would like to know what is happening.

      • 1 page, account is logged in, but not on the other…

Gonna be more consequential than CR or not, or different browsers

Thread like this makes me lose faith in humanity.

Dynamic pricing has been around for a while (Amazon, airlines, etc), I didn't think it happened on eBay.

A common tactic is to offer new customers a better rate than existing customers (sign up and save!).

Related to that is when you call a company people who are not existing customers may be bumped to the front of the queue so they are more likely to sign up based on the 'good service' they received. So if you call don't enter your membership number - you might get to talk to a human being earlier at which point you say "Oh, but I am a member, my number is…"

How's that faith in humanity holding up?

    • Nope.

If you have one in your cart it doesn't show 5% off, and besides the 'Add to cart' button vanishes. You need to go to the cart to change the quantity.

  • Don't think its got to do with Cash Rewards.

If anything, on IE11 page you saved the 5% from the seller somehow…

I can't replicate it even with MS Edge and IE11.

  • hadn't put this in my cart yet on either. Browser Chrome auto logs me in where as IE 11 hasn't got any passwords stored. Thats why I cut and paste to Chrome and noticed the difference in price.

I get $15.53 in my browser and app logged in and logged out.

$14.75 would be coming from the 5%.

    • …and how does one get the 5%?

      Buying 2 doesn't work (5% off 1 means 2.5% off the total).

You can pick those up locally

  • I looked at an item yesterday that had the same price in pounds for the item and for postage, and postage (converted in AUD) was higher than the price of the item (in AUD). Really weird!
