Auckland for Less than a Day?

Hi all, We are flying to Buenos Aires in September but have a 20ish hours overnight stop in Auckland (we'll arrive in Auckland at 11.59pm and will leave for Buenos Aires at 8pm the following day). We are 2 adults and 2 kids (6 & 2 y.o.).
What would you suggest? Stay in a hotel near the airport or near the city? What is best to do during that time in NZ? How to go to and from the airport? Any suggestion, tip, whatever is much appreciated! Thanks!! :)

Airport is about an 45 to an hour away from the CBD, but since you're arriving at dead hours it should be maybe a bit faster.

You can make the most of the day by walking around Auckland CBD, see the harbour, eat food, go up the sky tower and back to the hotel.

Can't comment on what time to leave but I suggest before peak hour traffic becomes a nightmare since you fly out at 8pm. I was only there for a few days but I left early in the morning at 6am flight.

    • Great points! Many thanks :)

Check out the harbour/viaduct area, grab some lunch. The Auckland Domain park and war memorial museum is pretty cool but might bore the kids. The zoo is pretty good but a bit out of the city centre.

I can recommend this casual restaurant in the Auckland CBD

And the Maritime Museum is a great tourist attraction at the harbour
