Buying Diamond Wedding Ring - Best Options?

Hello Guys

Hope you're doing well.

I'm planning to marry in a couple of months. I was wondering what are the possible options to buy a good ring in an affordable price. I don't want to get ripped off and also want a better product. So, I'm asking for help from you guys about the places that I can buy good quality rings from.

We've discussed a few things and she likes a round shaped diamond that should sparkle but not too small and in platinum metal.
My budget is around $4,000.

So what do u guys suggest? I've looked into Bluenile but worried about the shipping and other duties.

What other shops/options do u suggest? Any bargain sales? :P

Thanks a lot everyone :) :)

vs2 minimum for clarity, u can't see it with the naked eye and go as high as u can in colour for the money. I went to Chinatown sydney for ours after looking around and it was gia cert.

    • Thanks a lot :)
      Is my budget enough?

Serious answer here: spend $5 on an aliexpress engagement ring. There are some very nice inexpensive options there. I bought a decoy engagement ring for travelling for $2 and my wife received more compliments for it than her "$14,000" diamond & ruby ring. Same with wedding bands. $1.50 from aliexpress. Buy a few spares just in case it gets lost. Put the $4 000 towards something useful.

If your $2 ring looks better than your $14k ring. You should be questioning your jeweler instead of advising people to buy rings on aliexpress.

My partner's engagement ring is of similar value to yours but the brilliance is unparalleled and no $2 ring can match for sure.

    • I really appreciate the thought. But, I was looking for something valuable to make her happy

Aren't you enough to make her happy?

    Congrats!

I ended up using Excel Diamonds out of New York. http://www.exceldiamonds.com/

Really happy with their service and quality. He will send you hi-res photos of the diamonds you are interested in.

If you keep the rock slightly under a carat you'll save as it seems as soon as you hit the 1.0 mark and above the price jumps massively.

I focused on clarity and colour (E Colour, VVS1) instead of size

You will notice a number of sites seem to sell the same diamonds (you can google their GIA numbers) usually whoever has the lowest price actually has the diamond and the rest would just be buying it from them and marking it! in my experience the costs were about double buying in Oz over getting it from the US.

Enjoy the hours of research and good luck!

Have you considered a moissanite from Charles and Colvard?
For 1/4 of the price of a diamond you can get a moissanite which is conflict free and more sparkly and has almost the same hardness levels of a diamond.

  • Oh dear, made the same dumb ass mistake when I was young and spent same amount on a wedding ring.

    Love the video.

Time to start preparing my son for the harsh realities of life.

    Good Luck.

  • There is a thread called ozbargain my engagement ring if i recall correctly
