Silly question but maybe somebody knows - why have 1080p projectors remained so expensive? I was looking to buy in 2012 and couldn't afford the $1000 for a proper 1080p projector at the time. Went with a cheap version and sold it soon after as the resolution was awful. 5 years later and this 1080p model is refurb for $800? Shouldn't there be excellent super-bright LED 4K or something like that for that price by now?

Tried to buy a good quality camera lens lately?

    • I Think USD-AUD relation may have some effect on the price in AUD.

    • I think things in the projector world change very slowly as far as technology and people also replace them less. The market is much smaller than for TVs or monitors.

a good contender: Xgimi H1, on sale USD550 @indiegogo only 3 days left with free shipping, 1080p (rescale 4K) with built-in Harman Kardon speaker running Android O/S 5.0, beamed 3D movies & pre-installed apps, install & run Google Play Store apps+games, lots of great reviews in youtube, very satisfied with mine.

      • Very nice. Only 900 lumens though vs 2200 on the Benq

        • correct, but jam packed with way more features & 900 lumens suits room-sized use with superb picture quality

    • The optics. There will always be a base level of cost relative to the quality of the lens.

    • Don't be fooled by 4k hype.

There are fantastic 1080p models out there, and those not so good (like this one).

There's more important variables like black level, contrast, etc. Look at 4k LED, 5 yr old 1080p plasmas still look better.

      • which 1080p models would you recommend?

          Budget?

        • $1000-$1500

  • Great piece of gear especially for 3D top notch. When it comes to normal viewing tho it's very good but nothing special.

  • I've got the previous model - Benq W1070. It's fantastic for the price that we paid for it (Amazon import). Owned it for 3+ years now and no regrets.
