Cracked Touchscreen Laptop - Recommend Computer Repair Shop Sydney

Hello, I have a Asus UX303L laptop working perfectly except that it's got a cracked screen. I've called a few repair shops however, they don't do repairs on touchscreen laptops.

I've made a booking with Asus service centre but the assessment fee is $55 and the repair cost is properly going to be extremely expensive. I'd like to find out if there is a repair shop out there in Sydney who does touchscreen laptop repairs if there is any at all.

The laptop is 2 years old. Do you even think it's worth doing a repair? I can probably live with a cracked screen. I rarely use the touchscreen function. The crack is just aesthetically unappealing. I only ever use it for uni as I have a desktop at home.

  • You could choose to do nothing and live with it.

I'd squeeze as much value out of it as you can by using it until you are no longer happy with it and then sell it off as-is.

The other alternative is to attempt a self repair by sourcing the parts yourself, but depending on certain models, you may run across several issues

    1. Can't find the spare parts
    2. Spare parts overpriced
    3. It's hard to repair and it's costlier to have the tools to repair it.

I've replaced laptop screens myself - just bought a genuine or compatible replacement for $50 on ebay and followed instructions online.

Touchscreens might be different, but I can't really imagine why.

Definitely, unless it's very slow or other things are breaking. Was it less than $400 when you bought it or something? Decent laptops should do 3-5 years before bits start to fail (unless it's a crappy brand) and closer to 10 before their tech is obsolete (unless it was a pretty low-end in the first place).

    • Bought it for about $900. The laptop is still working top notch. It's like having a cracked screen on a phone.

      • Fix it.

Do an eBay search for the screen and get a rough idea on the part cost , that might sway you whether to continue or not.

Hmm I think I'll have to live with the crack. The part costs $200 and I have no confidence whatsoever in repairing the laptop. My laptop is the worst kind to have screen problems 'cause it doesn't have a metal bezel. It's just a glass screen glued or something.

          There you go, sorted.

I am guessing after a while you wont be bothered by it.

Yes touch screens will be more expensive, good choice op live with it and save the money for your next laptop

live with cracked screen or use it with an external monitor. monitor can be reused for any laptop so it'll have a longer life than a screen repair

  • I think you should collect money for your next laptop. If you want sell this one and asked the buyer for the price, with cracked screen.
