Car Registration Renewal on Concession (Victoria)

Hi all,

I am a concession card holder (which is obviously under my name) and I know with VicRoads, you can use your concession entitlements to pay for your rego.

I use my partners car on a daily basis, as he does as well but the vehicle is under his name, not mine.

I've read on the site that your domestic partner can use your concession, as long as you give them/grant permission.

As we are under a same-sex relationship, is this included in the category of domestic partner?

Thanks!

If you're in a 'domestic relationship' arrangement then they most probably accept it.

  • From the VicRoads site:

    Definition of a domestic partner

Reg 5 of the Road Safety (Vehicles) Regulations states that the "domestic partner" of a person means:

    • a person who is in a registered relationship with the person, or
    • an adult person to whom the person is not married but with whom the person is in a relationship as a couple where one or each of them provides personal or financial commitment and support of a domestic nature for the material benefit of the other, irrespective of their genders and whether or not they are living under the same roof, but does not include a person who provides domestic support and personal care to the person
    • for fee or reward, or
    • on behalf of another person or an organisation (including a government agency, a body corporate or a charitable or benevolent organisation).
  • Also according to the VicRoads web site:

Your eligible concession can be applied to one vehicle only (light motor vehicle, motorcycle or heavy motor vehicle).

So, it seems to me that if you are claiming a concession on your own vehicle, you cannot also claim a concession on your partner's vehicle. But perhaps that's not what you were asking…
