Deal Posting Guidelines have been updated: Referral links for Group Buy sites, Gambling sites...

Ladies and Gentleman, Boys and Girls.

Recently there have been discussion about the sudden influx of deal a day and coupon style "group buy" deals hammering ozbargain.

To tackle the issue we have made some changes that will hopefully limit the amount of spam, and limit it to actual deals.

Summary of changes made:

"Deal a day" or "group buy" sites
- No referrals at all - including in deal body
- Deal must be active before posting.

Gambling/Auction Sites
- No gambling or betting deals.
- However, these may be posted in the forums, and may be removed at the discretion of the mods

Catalogues/multiple store deals
- multiple bargains in the same sale, catalog or store - post as one deal. (provide links to individual deals in body if possible)
- exception is where it is an exceptional deal

  • These changes all make excellent sense.

The links were definitely getting out of hand with some virtually indiscriminate posts for anything and everything, on the off chance someone might click on the referral link.

    Well done.

    • thanks Horizon,

props to neil who collaborated and wrote out all the rules so they made sense

  • Yay no referrals , that alone probably stop half of them haha.

"exception is where it is an exceptional deal" Grey area this is. Everyone will have a different view of what is exceptional. Some people think games like Halo Reach and Starcraft 2 warrant a post on their own, others will just think it's just another game.

  • +1

Hmm, the new rules seem to have made a difference! That was quick.. I think I only saw 2 group buys today, with 1 that was posted by the rep.

  • Quote from an unpublished group deal:

"(Read the RULES of any community you join -its just simple courtesy. Referals NOT allowed)"

On the submit new deal page would it be possible to include this information, or something about group deal rules being updated…

  • Awesome. :) good work guys
