thats the old P10 processor, this one linked is the new P20 :)

      • Thank you Kapinny :)
Do you know much about UMI? I hadn't heard of them before,…an online reviewer in UK gave the 6gb UMI a good rap…

They are a very minor brand, not as well known or reputable as other Chinese OEM's like Huawei or Xiaomi.

I usually rank Chinese phone manufacturers into 3 different tiers - first tiers usually belong to companies that have a worldwide presence and sell their stuff overseas. Huawei, Xiaomi, ASUS, Oppo, OnePlus and ZTE are examples of first-tier companies. Their phones are not as cheap because they spend more money on distribution and marketing.

Second tier is 'somewhat' well known but they keep their markets small and only target certain countries, for eg Lenovo "ZUK" subdivision, Meizu, LeeCo, BenQ, and Gionee all usually sell in Chinese or Indian markets. Of note, Kogan actually partnered with BenQ to produce their Kogan Agora smartphones (basically rebrand).

3rd tier is even less well known… they don't have a big marketing spend and just use cheap methods: social media, word of mouth and very, very low prices to get their products out.
UMI, Cubot, THL, ZOPO, Wasam and Doogee are examples of brands that belong in the 3rd category.

          is that mrwho'stheboss? :D

i dont know much, i had a xiaomi (which i stupidly broke) then i got a zuk z2 (which died on me!!)

Thinking of getting either a xiaomi redmi note 4x or the new 5 when it comes out (I believe in August?)

        • @scrimshaw:

Thanks Scrimshaw - that has given me an understanding of why I hadn't seen or heard of UMI previously. I see some of those 3rd tier brands around SEAsia.
Do you know about the reputation and build quality of UMI (are they any good?)?

        • @scrimshaw:

Meizu (apart from Flyme) and LeeCo are much better than ZTE. Considering LeeCo is LeTV, they are hardly a small company.

          @Gershom:
That tone was uncalled for. Proper education makes you civilized too.

          1. Apart from Asus(Taiwan) @scrimshaw's assessment is actually informative.
          2. @scrimshaw mentioned Lenovo "ZUK" line specifically and not just Lenovo
          3. And finally, you can't "get a copy of Google" (whatever that means)

          🤞

  • This phone is pretty crazy spec wise, not sure about camera however. Probably ordinary like most.

    • Could you put that to music (you must get that a lot :)

  • You get what to you pay for.

You think there's only one company that makes 6gb ram which every manufacturer uses? No way. Its important to know where is the hardware sourced from.

These devices will break sooner than others.

  • I had a quick look. This phone is around 400 on ebay.
Does anyone have first (or close to first) - hand info on this brand/phone

    • Found a forum for those who like to flash their UMI

      • Sounds kinky.

I've got the Umi Z (flagship-level) and it's awesome apart from the camera, which is just OK. But value for money, it's a crazy beast.

    • Thanks Mic. I'm looking for a crazy beast…something that's not shy and won't fade away on me… That ridiculous battery is a lure.

  • More curious if it can do dual sim 3G/4G. 2G will be gone soon.

    • 2G: GSM 850(B5)/900(B8)/1800(B3)/1900(B2)
      3G: WCDMA 850(B5)/900(B8)/1900(B2)/2100(B1)
      4G: LTE FDD 2100(B1)/1800(B3)/2600(B7)/800(B20) Up to 300Mbps

      Dual sim dual standby

Or 1 Micro SIM Card and 1 TF Card
Both SIM slots are compatible with 4G, respectively.
When they work at the same time, only one of them can receive
LTE service and the other GSM.
      Default at slot 1

I had one of these. Was a great phone very fast. However mine had a issue with the mic and only could talk to people on loud speaker.
    The phone itself i loved. Great design fantatic screen. Well worh the money phone wise however;
The returns process to gearbest for me wasnt worth the good price of this phone. If there is a issue the problem will be drawn out and complicated for returns in my opinion.
My advise would be look at their forum and the issues found with the phone
As others have said you get what you pay for.

    • Thanks Rexxy. My concern is around buying online. I'm not usually around long enough for long drawn out battles.
So many trade-offs, so little time :)

  • No B28: No NFC.

    No

  • 64GB ROM (Read Only Memory)
    Wow!!! Massive boot block!!

I have one of these phone it is very quick and for the price isn't a bad option, if you are price conscience.
    The good is as follows:
    Nice screen
Camera takes decent shots for both selfie and normal
You can have heaps of things open at once without getting the phone hot at all with the 6gig and the CPU
Battery life is great one days use gives me about 60% left to play with that is after a fair amount of use
    Sound is great on loudspeakers
Bluetooth is great I have my Samsung gear watch connected to it via Android Wear and at times connected to the car they both work fine with no issues
Streaming is great on Bluetooth using google music with the above config of items connected with no issues.
I run an SD card but can run another service provider SIM card but more space than the 64gb is what I went for

    The bad:
The screen is only a 5 touch which means it doesn't t register any more than 5 touches at once so response and precision isn't as accurate at time - I've come from a one plus which has 10 touch plus points on the screen
The finger print sensor does recognise but is no way close to the iPhone which I have as well so at times it's slow and you may have to revert back to the pin to get in - not a big issue
No update for Android 7 as yet apparently due to the CPU it runs there is no certified update as yet. I had the last patch from UMI last week for Android 6. They have committed to provide it but with them churning out handsets like not tomorrow the Crystal Pro being one of the latest I don't think Android 7 will come. I hope I'm wrong.
I run the UMI case with the s-view window this is the biggest issue I have is that the case cuts out the call midway through it. So the case is useless. As such I have had to get another one, the s-view also has another issue which is a small window error that appears now and then for certain apps 2 from memory.

Other than those the phone is at a price point if you are happy to live with the pros and cons then you would have a decent handset.
I hope the above review helps people deciding.

    • Thanks rexy_boi. That's great info! It does help me decide. I appreciate your in depth pros and cons :)

  • Will waiting for a moto g5 plus 32/64gb deal I think.
Unless there is any better ideas.
Only Harvey Norman and moto.com at this stage
