I got a generic one of these from eBay for $1. Better than any suction cup mount ive ever used

  • Umm no thanks. The USAMS one on AE is $5 delivered.

    Don't waste your money.

I have a Kenu airframe in one car and recently got a $3 generic one from ebay for the other car.
The $3 works just as well as the airframe…

    • Link for 3$ one?

      • +5

        Similar to this one…

The seller I got it from doesn't have any more, I got it for about $3.30…

        • inflation :(
But thanks I actually was looking for something like this. :)

Will save up the extra 30c

I like this better Car Magnetic Air Vent Sticky Mount Holder. I just bought one!

  • +3

I have used many in past of generic brands, but this belkin one has been amazing in quality and grip since last 2 years. Good product and local stock.

    $3.79
The same bloody thing just doesn't say belkin.

    • It's unfair to quote grey stock from China as compared to Belkin. especially given that Belkin lifetime guarantee are reputable.

      • -7

Im comparing another brand that i personally use for multiple phone and ipad cases.

        • -1

I'm not saying this is a good deal but it does not deserve a neg. It's like comparing a Kogan branded TV to Sony. Each to their own.

        • +2

          @huey:
Comparisons between TV's have lots of things to compare as they do multiple things and have different screen quality input and outputs etc.

This has a single function to hold your phone which there isn't any variation in the ability to do so, either it will either hold it or it wont which would mean it's broken.

        • +2

          @Axelstrife:
          Local vs weeks for shipment
Life time guarantee vs none at all
I paid over 1k for my phone, want to ensure it holds fine in an event of an accident.

        • -1

@huey:$3.79 vs 5 Times the price
Belkin doesn't have a lifetime warranty for this it has 1 year (please link me proof if i'm wrong isn't on Belkin's site.)

Stop looking at your phone and more on the road and there would be an accident.

          @Axelstrife:

Local stock and branded means something to alot of people. My point is that you don't need to neg it just because it's not got u. It annoys me that people spend time to put items and haters just neg it without a valid reason. 4 other people agree with me too.

        • -1

@huey: It annoys me that people are afraid of negging cause of people like you this is a bad deal, it's just an overpriced item that is cheaper elseware just without the brand name.

Since you felt mentioning it notice how my original commend has a positive + count that means more people have + it than negged it.

If my neg is invalid than report me and let the mod's decide.

        • @Axelstrife:
          Pointless conversation now.
All the best to you then.

    • +1

i think it is fair to use the neg to flag this to users.

      • +1

I agree but the comparison needs to be like from like.

    • True, there are plenty of cheap ones out there. But the rock branded one you link it's one of the crappiest one out there. The holder is loose and you can't even stick it on horizontal. I've binned my one and got another

    • Ok, I think there are two things here we need to sort out
      1) Is this a bargain of a product or service? yes it is
      2) Are there any other products can do the same job but cost less? yes in this case

This website is about sharing bargains of specific products or services. As long as they meet the goal.
It's not fair to neg it just because you can find other products which can do the same type of function but cost a lot less.
Or might be the mod should consider having an other neg option for this kind of purpose.

  • -8

Is this a bargain or just its normal price?

    • +2

Pls don't be lazy and neg a deal without sourcing evidence of a better price.

      • -2

Just pointing out that it's not on special, no discount or apparent bargain to be had.

        • +2

A '?' is a question mark, meaning you dont know jack about this deal being a bargain or not !

    • you should know that if you are going to neg mate.

  • I think time to take the plunge and get one of those air vent holders.
Would you guys recommend this magnetic one from USAMS ?

Edit: Here are all USAMS holders on AE

  • appreciate if anyone who could please recommend some decent cheap ones
i own an iphone 6 plus & doesnt mind if it's magnetic or just mechanical

p/s: i have order a magnetic phone holder on ebay from china n apparently it has been sent twice by the seller.. i have a feeling it has been removed by au custom :(

    • +1

I found the magnetic one was not strong enough to hold my iPhone 7+ and it kept dropping of with slight bump in a car .

  • +2

I've got one of these… $4 and does the job

Hey guys, can i ask a silly question that's been on my mind about these for a while?

Do these have the ability to bend or break the vent flap that it is clipped on to? Especially if the phone is a heavy 6inch phone?

    • +1

Depends on the car , on ranger is tuff plastic so it's ok for my heavy 7* with hArd case on

      • Thanks for the reply and info!!

    • +1

Not a silly question! I've been using a similar clip for my large phone (phablet?) with the leather case on which puts a bit of strain on the clip. While none of the outer vents have given way, something inside the vent broke off, probably the bit that directs airflow sideways. So, unless you have a particularly bulky setup like me and clumsily jam it in there occasionally (giggity) then you should be fine.

      • Thanks for the reply and info!!

    • +1

I have 6 plus and 7 plus, I personally have used it with camry, mazda 3, civic and pathfinder. Never broke a thing, grip is good and quality is solid. You can buy generic brand plastic ones online but many of those loses grip in couple of month.

      • Thanks for the reply and info!!

  • On a connected topic, P plate drivers in Vic can't use a phone even handsfree, you have to use a standalone gps unit.

  • I bought one of these and the black rubber on the bits that gripped my vent came off within a month, wouldn't get one again

  • Also how this on the vents.
Sometimes these will wreck the vents which is more expensive to fix

  • Is it allowed to mount phone on this on a air vent? I though we can only use the one which is put on windscreen. Can someone clarify? Thanks

  • I have a large collection of mobile phone mount over the years. There are suction cup on the windscreen with clamp, suction cup with green glue, magnetic on the dashboard and mounting on the air vent. This is only good for summer when you have cool air to your car and mobile phone. Your phone will be in real trouble in winter because your phone battery will be facing the warm air continuously. This would shorten the battery life easily. This is only my personal experience.
