How safe is it to give these guys your data?

    • +1

Most of these apps are just wrappers for the Facebook mobile site, so you're still logging in through Facebook and not a third party (though I haven't used this particular app).

      • It also doesn't require any permissions, is just a wrapper unlike Facebook which i feel may be intrusive. I'm not a heavy duty Facebook user so these sort of apps work well for me

Fair question, probably about as safe as it is giving your data to Facebook

as a developer, i can say it's totally safe because this app is using Facebook API to fetch and push data which is secure.

      • Doesn't it say it's a wrapper though?
Where did the api connection come from?

They don't use the API: http://creativetrendz.weebly.com/faqs.html
"Simple works as the Facebook mobile site works and is limited by what the Facebook mobile site can or cannot do. "

And as a developer myself, nothing prevents them to log every single link that is accessed by their wrapper and they can use all this meta-data to sell it to 3rd parties, when the app was paid they were less likely to need to sell your information but now that they made it free I would feel even less keen on using it.

We do not access your personal information, nor do we access or log any site links that you access. You can however turn on webview error logs, which only gives access to errors with loading pages. This is a file that is saved to your device in a text document that is readable by the user & is only sent to us when/if the user decides to send it via email. The app was made free for a limited time to promote the app, not to log any information. Simples source code can be looked at at anytime when requested.

We do also use the Facebook API to retrieve your profile image, name & cover photo.

    • They won't steal your facebook login or anything in the like but nothing prevents them to log every single page that you access and sell this data to 3rd parties.

Here is one of the posts on reddit discussing Simple and various other wrappers
    Reddit Post

  • I use Metal for Facebook & Twitter which is the same concept. I just tried this and it seems pretty good too.

  • There is an open source software that you can use to make these wrappers. Not a bad idea but i had issues with metal on my note 2 and friends was ok but slow to load on my s5.

  • Since it doesn't use Messenger, does it show when you have seen messages or when you are last active?

  • Good app was using just chrome notifications however viewing photos on this is much better.

  • I don't know why but i prefer Friendly for Facebook

    • I am/was using Friendly too - although I think I used Metal before that
Friendly charge for the Pro version with ad blocking - this offer includes that
I am going to give this one a go
WOrth grabbing for free in case you change your mind later

  • What is a facebook wrapper and what's the purpose of it? I have never heard of it but am intrigued
