I hope they've improved, ours barely lasted for 2 years.

Common problem that the electronics stuff up and it switches off before reaching the desired temperature.

    edit:

Here's what others think about it…

Just to give a bit of balance….We got one of these as a wedding present in 2013, hasn't skipped a beat yet - even after being knocked around a bit through various moves.
Thankful we didn't run into those issues that others have mentioned, that would've driven me crazy!

    • my Electrolux EEK7804S just gave up tonight after 2 years and 4 months. guess it is a common thing if it is a complicated design.

Thought smart = smart phone or Android/IOS compatible?

    • Nope

Had one of these. Different temperature settings were great for things like brewing tea, until about about 18 months after purchasing, it decided to not make contact with the base properly, and also not auto-shutting off once boiling

    • also not auto-shutting off once boiling

      same…

It also got very, very, very noisy after about a year.

      • Have you tried to descale it?

        • Yes, many times, it only made a small difference…

Anyway, it died and has since been replaced with a cheaper, simpler model that works much better…

      • That's very many very's

Same, im on my second. First the electronics completely failed after 2 years, now the second is losing contact with the base and shuts off before it's boiled also at 2 years old.

Wont be trying for third time lucky.

Do you have to use smart water in these, or will ordinary water work? What about tea/coffee - should they be smart too, or do you risk problems mixing non-smart ingredients?

I'm sorry if the question is obvious - I am not very smart.

The Target Bellini kettle is almost identical and normal price is $49, still going after 18 months

Edit: the only issue I have with it (and also others) is that you have to press and hold the power/boil button for over 5 seconds to turn it on. Yeah doesn't sound much but a stupid piece of design, 1 or 2 seconds would have been plenty as a "safety" feature if that's what it's meant to be. Otherwise not complaining for the price, no way I was forking out for the sumbeam or Breville

  • If you can't set the water to boil from your mobile it's really not a smart kettle

  • Thermostat packs it in within the warranty period if you use it enough. Went through 2 of them. Third time we just went back to a normal kettle.
