Was browsing the latest 'deals' from JB via a received email and came across this one. Looks to be a great price, if you can get the unit actually working/recording - 4 mixed reviews on JB site. Cameras alone seem to retail for $120+ each. Hope someone gets something out of this :)

Comes with 6 cameras, all IP67 waterproof rated, all have 70degree viewing angle with 1080P output.

I would think you would be better off with an NVR (ethernet) system nowadays.

  • Do you think a house with six of these cameras around it looks odd? Or it might depend on the area..

      Depends it could mean to

      Neighbour/random outsider:-
-poor thang,he has been robbed many times
-Stay away from my house and I am watching you at all times
-crap my dog can't do his business at his fav. tree anymore

      small time thief:-
-ok this is the house that we should skip
-too troublesome to break in and our face could be seen

      big time thief:-
-oh hoho we got a house with lots of goodies
      -totally worth it to rob

      policeman:-
-good surveillance, will talk to the owner if we ever need any video for a crime scene

      random drivers/late night roaming teens:-
crap can't dump rubbish in front of this house…..it could be recorded better not too to save my bad image to be known to the public.

Haha good answer. I guess the main one to worry about is big time thief then (who also finds the location of the hard disk recordings)

      • It's more like:

Police - there's a drug dealer. Keep an eye on it

        Drug dealer - there's competition

        Junkie/thief - there's a drug dealer to rip off

A few in entrance ways (inside and/or outside) are very useful. Done right they should only be visible once someone has entered the area it is observing or not at all ie it's too late to hide your face. At the point of capture it should already be uploading the image/footage into the cloud and alerting the owner via sms.

It's the same for alarms, you don't want it visible. It's better to have someone smash a window and suddenly get blasted rather than being ready for it.

The visible alarms, cameras etc as a deterrent really doesn't work. Locks on meter boxes are great but also another giveaway that you have one or more intrusion detection systems.

All that said, it does seem odd when entering a friends house knowing that I'm on camera from the moment I park in his driveway to entering through the front entrance (inside and outside) and when I'm in his backyard. The stuff they catch on camera is priceless, particularly some of the more frisky events that have occurred at parties.

  • Another similar deal is this one with 8 cameras & a 16 channel DVR for $649:
