Negging because of the high travel risk to Istanbul.

Nothing against you OP. People just need to be aware, sorry.

People just need to be aware, sorry.

Pretty much nowhere in the middle east is worth travelling to. All these countries are constantly in varying levels of conflict. The same applies to large areas of Africa and South America.

I'm surprised that Istanbul is rated as high risk as that. There you go.

      • I'm surprised that Istanbul is rated as high risk as that. There you go.

How can you be surprised given how unstable that country is.

      • Your point?

my point is that your neg vote doesn't really follow the rule voting guidelines and i have reported it as such.
Your neg vote does not represent
          A defective product
          Major Issues with a retailer
Or is not the cheapest available.

Many countries are not 'safe' to travel - that is for the traveller to make that choice and do the appropriate research.

          @dasher86:

Every country you listed is "overall, exercise a high degree of caution" whilst Turkey is also "overall, exercise a high degree of caution" but Istanbul is "Think seriously about whether you need to travel here due to the high level of risk.", this deal is about Istanbul and hence your points do not stand because you can't compare them.

This is a useless list as a matter of fact the most dangerous country is England after Syria as 4 terrorist attacks in three months (nil happened during this period in Turkey)
If you travel like a tourist visit the sites you need to see and enjoy, it will be ok, but if you like to go and watch the war at the border of Turkey with Syria it would be dangerous.

If you import the middle east into the UK what do you think will happen?

(nil happened during this period in Turkey)

Why don't you look at the last twelve months instead of cherry picking a selective period.

Look at all the terror attacks for 2017, there is something in common with all of them.

I do not wish to extend this as a political matter rather than oz bargaining
Those url shows not terrorism incidents but the countries were put in civil war by the Axis of evil from the beginning of 9/11

What rubbish, you tried to manipulate the discussion by posting misleading information by picking a tiny period in which Turkey hasn't had any REPORTED terrorist attacks.

      • it's also a high risk to travel to
        Thailand
        Philippines
        Indonesia
        Belgium
        France

And what do they all have in common? It's not the countries that is the problem.

Not sure why I am getting negged for outlining bad business practices of a company.
I personally think it is our responsibility to give our business to companies which treat their employees with respect and doesn't fire them because they don't back not the government party.

Democracy is something to preserve … and not to neg down …

It is terrible what Erdogan is doing to Turkey - possibly another Syria in the making.

Istanbul is such an amazing place, one of the best cities in Europe. The meeting of the East and West, the melting pot of Christianity and Islam. The history and beauty of the old city is incredible.

I really feel for the people there. So much of the economy depends on tourism which I presume is now almost non-existent.

    • the melting pot of Christianity and Islam.

That's now expanded to Western Europe and the UK.

I agree with pencilman. Taking a country that was a leader in the area in terms of religious, political and cultural tolerance and sending it back decades towards a tinpot dictatorship. I've never been there, but it would've been on a must see list, but I wouldn't go until he is ousted. (Mind you, the same could be said for the USA nowadays).

1.5 million Armenians might disagree with that.

    • He still has a lot of support from the locals (and even Turks abroad). So it seems there is no shortage of ignorant people there (much like the rest of the world) who are happy to have their tribal instincts exploited by self-serving tyrants.

  • Heard so many bad things about Turkish Airlines on the ground, plus the airport being bombed and the unstable political situation… unfortunately Turkey is off the list for the moment :(

    • I think Turkish Airlines had improved a lot (until the recent troubles), with quite new planes, good service etc.
Competing in the premium airline passenger market and not with the discount airlines.

But yes, but after the airport bombing and the Erdogan takeover, sadly Turkey is off of my list.

Most of the airlines have difficulty at times like British Airways troubled to their customer recently. Some passengers had to wait more than 24 hours..
I had great flights with Turkish Airlines to UK, and USA a few years ago.
Their prices has been very competitive despite the service they offer to Europe from Turkey
