Im booked in late June to July this year but my fam is considering cancelling because of the supposed megaquake that they keep seeing all over tiktok.

The tightas* in me trying to convince everyone its just a hoax.

    • Did see in today's news there was an eruption…

    • I haven't looked into this closely, but I thought this earthquake had a timeline from like 2 years ago - to the next 10 years?

Nonetheless, I wouldn't be changing plans based on this earthquake (noting that from what little I have read, it's supposed to be occurring, but the timeframe is huge). I am planning on heading to Japan, but not until August-Sep.

EDIT: I could be mistaken, and the timeline for this to occur could be much tighter

So they'd cancel their trip based on some non scientific psychic bs? I couldn't find anything legit that talks about it.

      • It's not just psychic BS. It's based on someone predicting the event in a comic book written in 1999.

but the thing is, it predicted the 2011 tsunami so….

I hope nothing happens but the best time to go would be after a disaster. Cheap and no/less tourists

  • Crazy that I got 700 return last year during school holidays….. Miracles do happen.

  • It being summer, probably the most sensible decision would be choosing to go to Hokkaido as it at least doesn't get as hot.

  • @flightfinderau I am looking at travelling to Japan on ANA next year Sep/Oct. Does your crystal ball give any indication of when the sales might start for that time?

    • +1

Next year Sep/Oct fares will become available around Oct/Nov of this year. Sounds like you will be travelling in an off-peak period? If so, I wouldn't rush and can wait till till early next year before booking

      • My only catch is I have 1 more 50% cashback deal thing with ANA to use before the end of the year. Any chance there will be sales before next year?

From recent history, there seems to be regularly fares to Japan between $800-900 (sale fares). Non sale fares you are looking at $1000-1100 approx

I'm thinking of traveling to Japan in Oct- Nov this year from Melbourne. Do we thing there will be any deals coming through for that?

If you are not too fussed with airlines. Keep an eye for some Qantas deals which pop up regularly to Japan (high 800s to low $900s). Japan Airlines deals from Melbourne are rarer but do happen from time to time. Otherwise Singapore Airlines/Cathay regularly have sale fares to Japan from $700-800, but the catch is it wont be nonstop.
