Affordable way to buy 10 to 13 kilos of fancy chocolate

Hey guys, can you suggest me an affordable way to buy 10 to 13 kilos of chocolate. I'm visiting my home country next month and it would be good if I gift my family and friends some fancy chocolate. I'm aware of the lindor chocolate deal and will buy some. Wondering if you can suggest me a good place to buy either online or in store. I live in Melbourne. Thanks in advance.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

What chocolate do you consider fancy?

    If budget stretches go here

    • Thanks @chumlee . I heard darrell lea and Lindor are pretty good.

I wouldn't bother with Darrell Lea, it's not that great. The last thing I had from there was their Christmas pudding and it was inedible.

        • Could it be because their owners are Australia's largest independant pet food manufacturer?

Darrell Lea isn't European style chocolate, pretty much just a more expensive Cadburys.

        Depends what you like

Two places I tend to buy choccies at are:
"Sweet As" at Chadstone - they have stuff from Pink Lady, Lindt, Newmans, etc.
"Richmond Factory Outlet and Cafe" place in Richmond - stuff from Newmans (and others I can't remember).

Also I heard about this one, but have never been. I would ring first to see a) if they are still open and b) what they might have.

In all cases you will need to check the use by dates on them - they are sometimes close to or past this.

I would also go to either Haighs, Koko Blacks or one of those stores and say you want to put in a bulk order and see what they are willing to do for you.

I've got a couple of kilos from the Lindt sales, (eating them slowly), the easter egg one was really good. The little Bertie Beetle things in them are delicious.

If I was you I would get some of the Bilby choccies - they are something you uniquely Australian and really good chocolate.

    • Very informative. Thanks mate.

ahh yes the bargain choice of haighs. how frugal

  • If you don't care about gift packaging, Aldi has some very good chocolate

    • Sure. I will check it out. Can you recommend me some good chocolate from Aldi? Thanks

    where's your home country btw?

would it be best to give some Australian brand chocolate, and maybe go for quality rather than kilograms?

    • It's India. Yes I will go for quality as well. I bought some Hershley's and Lindor last time at Costco.

Just remember to keep the choccies cool… 10 minutes outside in India and you will have a bag of melted chocolate..

        • Haha sure

I'm confused… Why the heck are you bringing 10 -13 KG of chocolate to India? Sure bring a gift to your family but 10KGs???

Go to Haighs. Day before you leave and buy some there. Then grab a bunch of whatever they have on special from the airport duty free.

OP probably has 100 or more relatives to give gifts to…so it's probably not much if you think about it.

        You got me there

    • Thanks. I will think about it .

What about Nandos peri peri sauce?

    • Really ?

      • Too late, was in India recently and found some nandos sauce in a supermarket.

This is the cheapest you'll buy Lindt Excellence for quite some time.

    • Thanks mate.. noted

Lindt imo isn't fancy and you can buy a lot tastier chocolate. Aldi's Moser Roth is very good for the price. Otherwise Koko Black, Haighs.

        • Noted ! Thanks

      • Lol take em Timtams, you can't get em there I'm pretty sure…

        • Lol, yeah. Tim tams are on promotion now at Coles.

    • Yeah bought a few. Thanks dude

im sure they have the international brands over in india?
what all aussies bring out are tim tams - can even go fancy with the messina range

Tim tams and cherry ripes are also on our requested list

    • Tim Tams for the win !!

i'm more impressed by the giving up of more then most carry on allotments and a third of most built in checked luggage allotments that should be a gift enough

also i hope you've made sure you can even take that much through customs haha

    • Yeah we can

Whittakers. Makes really nice chocolate. Don't know where you can buy it though

    • I will try to find it. Thanks

    • +2

Woolworths sells it. It's a NZ brand.

They only seem to have a rather limited range of it though my local iga stocks it but it's not cheap

always check latest grocery deals from different stores! I was able to do that. It's actually a good stuff during trick or treat

    • I will. Thanks

  • Bought a 1kg assorted Easter eggs bag for $19 that is 75% off the actual price and a large pick and mix bag. Was able to fit 1.7kg in it. I'll do better next time.

100g Lint blocks at wollies $1.80 each… That's less than half price

    • Not anymore. They were $1.89 on woolies website but $2.12 in store. Now it's $2.12 online.

      • that was on Saturday when I did my shopping… I brought 2 blocks. Should be valid till tomorrow :)

maybe this is a regional special (central coast NSW)

  • What's wrong with Cadbury? 250g block x 4 = 1 kg. So 40 blocks in assorted flavours and Bob's your uncle. Makes packing easy too.

    • Only blocks ? I will buy a few Cadbury blocks but not 40. Thanks anyways
