Bought GTAIV on Steam before for $7.50 and I regret buying it. It's so poorly optimised for the PC. The graphics aren't that good yet it runs like crap. Crysis Warhead and Resident Evil 5 runs better than this along with other games that look 10x better

    • Not only is GTA IV optimised soo badly for pc, it's got a ton of bugs. I would say AVOID on pc or play it on ps3/xbox360.

Can't comment on Episodes of Liberty City as I have not played it on pc.

      • ahh thanks for that, I have it on Xbox360 and was going to grab it with this deal for pc, but won't bother then.

I've had no issues with either on the PC. Though you are quite right, it is poorly optimized and requires high end hardware.

        • Apart from a few graphical glitches it runs great at 1920x1200 on a q6600/GXT260. Episodes from Liberty City is a bit short but lot's of fun.

If you think GTA 4 was optimised badly, don't try Saints Row 2!
It will lag your head off…

But yet I still prefer playing SR 2 because it's more fun.
Each to their own I guess.

      • SR2 was running like poop for me too, till I googled a bit.

If you have a 3.2ghz quad core, or 3.2ghz Tri-Core it will run pretty much as it is supposed to.

The alternative is to overclock to 3.2ghz if you know how to do it. If you try playing with two pc's that are running at different ghz then it will lag for the slower pc. Its a bad case of poor optimization, but I did enjoy the game quite a bit :P

This is great for both the multiplayer and singleplayer.

I don't see why you guys are complaining, I can run this game on my tiny 11" alienware m11x laptop. It runs perfectly on my Core i5 655K + 4870 X2 with the dynamic shadows etc.

The majority of time people complain about GTA IV on PC they are not realising that on the the equivalent settings on the xbox is all settings on low, resolution low, and definition set to off.

How did you fit a HD4870 x2 in that 11" laptop? It doesn't appear to be an option on the manufacturer's website.

      • Woops sorry, I meant that I also have desktop computer with those specs that runs at those settings.

I run the alienware m11x on low settings for obvious reasons.

  • This game runs like a DOG. (specs: AMD X2 6000+, 4Gb RAM, GTX275, XP / Win7)

Great on Xbox 360 or PS3. I own it on xbox360, regret buying it on PC.

Neg on this deal as it is a waste of money because the PRODUCT sucks. (Not the deal)

I think your problem is that GTAIV needs 3 threads to do its thing.

      • Then that should be in the requirements.

        System Requirements
OS: Windows Vista - Service Pack 1 / Windows XP - Service Pack 3
        Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz, AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4GHz
        Memory: 1.5GB XP / 1.5GB Vista
        Graphics: 256MB Nvidia 7900 / 256MB ATI X1900
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c Compliant Card
Hard Drive: 16GB of Hard Disc Space
Sound Card: 5.1 Channel Audio Card
Other Requirements: Initial activation requires internet connection; Online play requires log-in to Games For Windows - Live and Rockstar Games Social Club (13+ to register); software installations required including Adobe Flash, DirectX, Microsoft’s .NET Framework 3.0, Games For Windows - LIVE, and Internet Explorer.

        • It's kind of reflected in the recommended requirements:
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz, AMD Phenom X3 2.1 GHz
Seeing as Intel has no triple core CPUs, they rounded up.

          I struggled through on an Athlon X2 3600+ :)
But the frequent slowdowns were rather unpleasant and inconvenient in crucial scenes.

Thanks for the insights into the quality (or really lack there of) of the game.

Negative voting is to do with the quality of the deal (vs- Normal)

          http://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:voting_guidelines

For that reason only neg vote revoked. Please read and understand how negative votes are to be used. Then use them appropriately thanks

Ok then,I am giving this a negative because the last deal was a much better bargain, and the extra 2 dollars 50 cents is not worth it as you get the same poorly optimised DRM filled game.
I bought it and cannot even load it up, despite having much better system requirements than is expected.
