I got one from the last $40 deal. Recommended and have had no problems at all, they have a premium feel about packaging / device / app.

  • +4

Awesome bulb. I bought the older model colour bulb a while back at the same price but it died shortly after arrival, they sent me a newer Colour 1000 bulb as a replacement. Two thumbs up.

    • +1

Had the same. One of my original bulbs started a really annoying buzzing sound. They sent me a new gen (2) as a replacement because they no longer stocked originals. Great customer service, product and packaging overall.

    • Hi VeeDawg, may I know how did you contact them for replacement? I tried to look for their contact number in lifx Australia, it just directed me to US webpage @.@

  • +1

So are these the current gen (3?)?

  • Thanks OP… Wemo's packed up with Alexa, so this is great timing

  • +1

Anyone know of any companies that do something like this but for downlights?
I'd love to start getting this sort of stuff going but only have downlights in my home.

    • Are you referring to the LED downlights that come as one unit? If so, I think an in-wall switch/dimmer will do the trick. I've heard the Lutron Caseta with a bridge is good but not sure if they're in Aust as yet - http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-in-wall-wireless-light…

    • LIFX actually had a GU10 model in the beginning, but discontinued it.

    • I have the Philips Hue GU10's

  • No B27;s left :(

    Edit: I mean B22

    • +3

All out of B-52's as well.

      • +3

Dammit, I love the love shack.

  • Sold Out of the B22

  • +5

These have been discounted at $50 each for a while now. Sold out of the Bayonet Caps ages ago. You are really only getting a $10 discount per bulb with the code.

Still, they are very good quality and I have 5 of them lighting up my house. I need to get another 4, so I'm going to wait for a discount on the current model

  • If I'm happy with the light output of 3x 20w CCFL lights for my main room, will these match or better it?

    • +2

They will match it, I got it in my living room around 5 x 6m and it totally bathes the room with the light. One thing to note regards gen 1 and gen 2 is they can be reset to white light by flicking switch on and off twice. The Gen 3 A19s doesn't do it which is annoying, so you have to rely on your app to change the colour back to 3500k white if you had changed it to something else before.

    • +1

20W CFL would be about 1400 lumens each. Would estimate it to be dimmer, but you are talking 3x100W Incandescent equivalent.

      • Thanks for the replies guys.

Will talk it over with partner, either going to go for 3x in the living room or just 1 for the bathroom (test in there then get 2 more later if they are what I'm after).

        • I think it says somewhere in the website not to use it in bathroom (or outdoor).

    • I think a 20w cfl is about 1200 lumens, but that's when new. Depending how old they are, brightness would have decreased gradually so you may find the LIFX are just as bright as what you've gotten used to.

      • Thanks mate.

I ended up buying 5 last night :/

3 for living room oyster lights and 2 for bedroom either the oyster lights or v raise lamps.

        • Should be all good. One other thing is depends what colour temp you run the LIFX at, they are brightest at about 3500k

        • @bamzero:

Thought that may be the case. I personally prefer a slightly warmer white in those rooms so 3500k at the brightest would be perfect.

Autocorrect changed bedside to 'v raise' in my previous post incase anyone was wondering what a v raise lamp was.

  • Code is actually for 20% off, not just $10.

    • Strange, the email I got says "Use coupon for additional $10 off per unit. Sale ends 30th June 2017"

      • Ah ok, same thing. Didn't realise it said per unit. Was reading post as being $10 off total order.

  • Are the Gen 2s smaller in height/width than the Gen1s? Just asking because I can't find spec sheets and I need ones smaller than the Gen1s :( Great lights though

  • I just started playing around with normal LED bulbs and am enjoying them so I was super excited, but B22's out of stock, so I thought, "Bananas, I'll just get the current model" but the discount code doesn't work for them :'(

  • good price, thanks!

  • +1

Good price - only gen 2 so no Homekit natively but Homebridge can overcome that.

  • best off buying an adapter for powerpoint that uses same technology…. that way you can hook up whatever you want and its cheaper
just not sure about getting the color changes though …

    • You mean something that plugs into an existing powerpoint, or a replacement light switch?

If a light switch, what are the options in Australia?

  • +3

fk I impulsed, are these really a good price?

    • +2

      YOLO bro.

  • Heard these aren't as reliable as Philips Hues. Anyone with both have any experience to share? Particularly interested in connecting with Google Home.

  • How does this compare to the Xiaomi Yeelight? That one seems a bit cheaper.

    • +4

lifx is much superior in terms of luminosity and build quality, not to mention the third party support such as google home

  • Thanks OP. Bought 4 more.
Already had 1 I bought in the US to try out and love it. Also have a Xiami Yeelight coming too as a comparison, but for $40, I'm happy with that.

    • Is it $10 off on order or each bulb?

      • Each bulb. I got for $160

  • I bought a couple of these gen 2 and found that coloured to my gen 1 bulbs, when set to the same colour temperature, were noticeably greener? Has anyone else noticed this?

    • Yes I found a difference with certain colors at certain brightness settings… led me to replace all my gen 1's with gen 2's

  • hate it when i buy things before i see where i can use them…

    • +2

      Good to know.

  • +1

I've got both the Yeelight and the Lifx and just last week I took the Lifx out and replaced it with another Yeelight. I think technologically the Lifx is better but mine had CONSTANT disconnection issues. I could rarely control it via my phone which is kind of the point of it. Goodbye Lifx, hello Yeelight!

  • Bought 2 to try out but have seen a gen 1 in action at my friend's place.
Good for thief deterrence when on holiday perhaps?

  • I'm new to this. How do you change Lifx colors? using dimmers or apps or what?

  • I don't even need this but I'm going to go buy a floorlamp so I can use this now

  • Thanks OP… Just grabbed some more and can confirm code is still working.

  • Just for anyone considering buying, here is my experience:

I'm an IT guy, I love automation.

I have a number of the original generation. They have a tendency to disconnect from the cloud (control server) and never reconnect without a power cycle. This is a deal breaker for me moving forward. Because while they have a LAN protocol that the LIFX app works with - you really need to drive them via the cloud for things like IFTTT to work.

Support won't acknowledge the issue and blame my router (although I think I have enough technical evidence to disprove that).

This is kind of irritating and prevents me from rolling them out wider across the house because a lightbulb that doesn't respond when it's supposed to has a very poor (Wife/Family Acceptance Factor).

Also search the lifx subreddit for peoples experience with support before you buy.

  • Code expired early?

I was hoping to receive my order in the next day or two and put in another if they performed well. It's a bit of a shame the code expired early when there's still 60+ units left.

Also I think the news about iOS11 dropping the security chip requirement for homekit would mean these gen2 bulbs are pretty much identical to the newer ones apart from a few extra lumens.

  • Got mine this morning.

The set up was a bit finicky and rage inducing. Lights kept on not wanting to connect to my phone, the application kept not finding my router once I connected to the lights and had to input BSSID/WPA details manually, the cloud account dropped out a couple of times and when I tried to rename bulbs after failed firmware updates - they got stuck i. The upgrade of the firmware failed a few times and required multiple resets.

Took about an hour to set up 3 lights in one room.

They are fantastic though, the amount of light is significantly more than my 20w CFL bulbs that I am replacing them with. When I set the LIFX globes to 3500k it seems like 70% power is the same as the CFL bulbs. The colour range is fantastic.

Once setup the app works great, but it did cause a bit of grief setting it all up.

I noticed that the code is working again after not working on Tuesday, I'll be ordering another 2 for bedside lamps as I think the function to set schedules will work great as an alarm.

  • Hi All,

Can anyone please confirm if these bulbs works with Google Home? or do I need only Gen 3 bulbs?

    Thanks
