1080p screen not 1440p. OP needs to take 2k out of title as it's misleading.

    • +3

I thought 1080p was 1920x1080 and 2k is a resolution with horizontal pixel count of approximately 2000. Or am I missing something?

      • +1

        1080p is close to 2k.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2K_resolution

        2560x1080 is greater than 2k.

Standards don't seem to adhere to the exact number of pixels anymore, look at what Microsoft set the specs for their new 12k system, but a decent rule of thumb is 'k' is roughly the number of horizontal pixels and 'p' is exactly the number of vertical pixels.

    • Where did they state it was a 1440p screen?

The term is technically correct, as 4k is regarded as 3840 pixels horizontally, so 2k would be 2560 pixels, which is what this monitor has.

He's not wrong. 1080 ultrawide is 2k if you're looking at the horizontal amount of pixels. It's 2.5K, actually. I think you mean to say, "Just call it 1080 ultrawide as it's less confusing than 2k." I don't think it's misleading, but I do agree that using a less popular term like 2k is confusing.

  • I think the Ben q one is a better deal

Man I got crazy excited when I saw that price for 2k/144hz… it's a 1080p screen not 1440p, knew it was too good to be true.

    • I don't think there is any 1440p/144hz ultrawides on the market yet. They are coming soon

  • Is the hp any good? Any reviews on this particular config?

    Hi guys,

apologies i genuinely thought 2560x1080 was 2K will amend title!

You're technically correct. People here don't know what they're talking about. For reasons mentioned above, 4K is called so because the horizontal value in the resolution 3840 x 2160 is close to 4000. People get annoyed by the "incorrect" use of nomenclature. For example, 1080P is 1920 x 1080, but people call it 1080P, althought it's technically 2K. So an ultrawide could be called 2K or 2.5K ultrawide. But just because "2K" didn't catch on, people think it's not right to call it so. That's just ridiculous.
1440P is called so because it's 2560 x 1440. But 1440 is the vertical, not the horizontal. Then you have 4K, which I mentioned above. It sounds a lot neater than 2160P, because people are more likely to think 2160P means twice as good as 1080P, when in fact it's 4 times the pixel density. It has a lot to do with marketing. So when people on Ozbargain get upset and say, "Oh, it's not 2K!!! There's no such thing!!!", they're wrong and misinformed.
All of these inconsistencies cause a lot of trouble over nothing.

  • So disappointed. Was so excited when I saw original title :(

Original Post link goes to this page, not the 20% original deal

  • I am waiting for Dell u2515h which is out of stock for some time at warehouse1

    • +1

Perhaps paving the way for U2518D. 😉

      • Should i wait? Do the prices of old models fall immediately with the release of new models? 2515 is $400 at futu online at the moment with 20% off.

        • Don't hold your breath with warehouse1, do yourself a favour and read their reviews online.

        • @hussey25: i think retailer doesnt matter much in case of Dell. You gonna deal with Dell directly in case of any issues.

        • @sidozziee: I don't mean warranty concerns, rather they say they have an item in stock when they don't
