  • Might be ok with one of those transcend SSDs from the msy deal

Looks like the storage is eMMC so probably no room for an SSD

      • '500gb hdd'

but eh… why would you bother

the cpu is tapped out, the 1,366 x 766 screen sucks, better off not even doing this

      • ..500Gb eMMC ??

        Should be SATA HDD.

        • Ah my bad. I was looking at the specs on JB Hifi's website and it said 64gb eMMC but I think it's a slightly different model.

Seems like a pretty standard price for this piece of shit
Spend a bit more and get the Dell that gets posted every week

A little eliteist. For the price its fine. Got my kids similarly specced machines for school (a little lower actually) and theyre fine. Given, it won't play GTA V too well, but horses for courses. If you're on a budget. it'll do the basics fine, and if it gets stolen/broken, youre not out that much.

Well said and very true, that coloured Dell thing with a 128gb SSD is a MUCH, MUCH better proposition.

    • well for starters it's under the $300 tax deductable limit, so you can buy it this week & write it off on your tax next week. so if you earn over $80k, that's 37% off (or ~$92 back - assuming you claim 100% work use)

Great value. Low-end laptops are all I buy, and all have been going well in the last 5 years.

I wish I could say my record for Lenovo was good though: I am never buying their units again after no less than 2 failures on 2 separate models - of course outside warranty. Many years ago. That could have changed.

I like having more storage with a regular hard drive, as opposed to a faster SSD with less storage. I am in no rush. I prefer storage. I also see zero wrong with the resolution of the screen at this size. It is the perfect compromise between legibiity and pixel size. If you want better video, you attach an external monitor to it and run at HD resolutions or higher. At this price, I don't know why we have so many elitists complaining. I see people buy gaming CPUs for more than this entire unit.

My only concerns are longevity. Usually the low-end models have half-decent airflow and don't suffer from many heat stresses in thinner bodies, so usually they are better. But my experience with Lenovo was not good. I have no experience with this model. All that said, cleaning out the laptop from the manufacturer's (and Microsoft's) crapware goes a long, long, long way.

  • limited stock around the western suburbs melbourne

  • I stuck it out with my old (4gb ram, intel core duo, great screen (no 720p, forgot what it was)), dell inspiron 1520 (brother gave it to me in 06). Kept using it until just a few months ago to an Acer r14 (i5 + 256ssd +8gb)

The difference is night and day. Start up, loading apps, switching windows. Get SSD and get a portable hard drive if you want more space; you won't regret anything.

In saying the above. For the price you're paying for this laptop, it's quite decent I suppose. Word processing, basic internet browsing, even youtube. Anything more than that, it will slow and be frustrating to use.

  • What store had this on display? I called my local and that model is $349 not $249

    • 107 Elizabeth Street, Melbourne.

  • Sort of off topic but does anyone know where I can get a reliable refurbished (with warranty) laptop for tafe for under $250?

    • I bought an ex-lease T420s ThinkPad off eBay for ~$170 and put a 120GB SSD in it. It's an i5, 4GB RAM, 1600 x 900 14" display.
You could probably find something similar for $250.

    • Buy a Chromebook, you can find them for about 250 in the stores that still stock them (most JBs and OfficeWorks near me have some) and they're a ripper for my course. I still rock mine from 2015 with only 2GB of RAM and it does all my school stuff fine. The missus picked up one recently, a newer one with twice the RAM and a better processor and it was only 250 from JB as well.

Google Docs, Office Online, all the basic word processing and slide show stuff works a treat… unless your course needs Photo Shop or something, then ignore everything. There's an online PS but I don't know if it's any good.

    • I bought one off http://www.budgetpc.com.au/refurbished-products-939/refurbis… a few years ago, were the cheapest around without dealing with ebay/gumtree at the time, might be worth a look.

dont know why so many people complain the specifications. technically the first computer that Mr Jobs had did a lot work for him. This computer can do and should serve you well
