        • They have DKC 1 though. I assume they own the complete rights to 1 but not 2 & 3?

Or are they paying MS a fee?

        • @jlogic:

Wow I was way off. Getting mixed up between rare collection and using the Goldeneye license.

          Thanks for correcting.

    • The super famicom had a pretty good games list. May have to import one of those as well, perhaps even just for the box art.

  • I prefer JB as you don't have to put a deposit down. Justifies the extra $1 in my opinion. EB is only good if you prefer in store pick-up. Also JB are more reliable in shipping before release date and via Toll (arrives in 1 or 2 days). EB can sometimes divert orders to stores which ship after release day.

  • Can these units play a SNES cart or is the cart hole just aesthetics?

    • +1

No, it is significantly smaller than an old SNES and wouldn't come close to fitting in the slot anyway!

  • Ordered via EB Games. $30 deposit. Pay the remainder on pick up.

  • Hmm could have used jb gift cards for this one

  • +4

Cool console, though this is RRP, hardly a bargain. The NES Mini posts made sense in the respect that they were impossible to get / selling for a fortune more on ebay, though they are apparently making a fair few more of these.

    • +2

This is actually 95c below the RRP.

  • -4

Don't forget the USB AC Adapter you MUST BUY for this to work!!! $19 AT JB.

    • +1

Any USB AC adaptor will work. Most people would have one lying around somewhere.

    • solution plug usb cable into spare apple or whatever phone you generally run with I've got loads lying round including USB cable

Why don't people read things anymore

      • The very reason why LMGTFY exists ;)

        • -1

not always the answer for common sense

FML when i picked up the last classic i looked at the power requirements, same as dozens of phone chargers i had, problem solved.

jam the 19$ charger without the need to be any lazier than required.

      • -1

Great, send your spares out to everyone. Think my comment was responded appropriately to by Yuri. Why do people have to make disparaging comments whenever they get the opportunity to these days? Irrelevancy in real life I guess ;)

        • never voted you down and my response was pretty much the same as yuri's they just happened to get there before i pushed send doing other things (in real life) in between.

Why don't people read things was in general applied to more than your single comment and meant why not look into something and provide a factual statement before adding fuel to a fire your forgetting that it was a few other people chose to vote you down.

and i was actually having a dig on jlogic's joke to be more precise

you have read so much more into it than was there i'm afraid

  • This or a RetroPie with Wireless Gamepad? What would the difference be between gameplay

    • gameplay? no difference at all.

    • Nothing I'd assume.

    • +1

The difference is the games aren't illegal on the SNES Mini - all the roms you have for the Pi are (probably, unless you dumped them yourself) illegal.

So, it's piece of mind and some sweet controllers for the SNES Mini vs all the games ever on th RetroPi - though they'd all be illegal, and the controller won't be the same

      • Seriously, piece of mind? LOL
Not to condone piracy but be realistic; no one is going to be kicking down your door while you're playing a downloaded ROM of Star Fox.

        • +5

A little shocked I got downvoted for promoting a legal way of playing retro games.

Next time there's a gaming console special I'm just going to say "it's a rip off why buy games at all? Just copy them it's free save your $$$"

And yes, you can get boned for playing ROMs - https://www.kotaku.com.au/2010/02/nintendo-wins-1-5m-aussie-…

And I don't mean peace of mind against the cops busting down your door, I mean peace of mind for not stealing games, playing them on kind of the system they were designed for, with the controllers they were designed with.

If you want free, unlimited games them sure, buy a controller and play them on the pi. The experience will be the same because the SNES mini is emulating anyway.

But for the love of what's good don't downvote me for suggesting it's more ethically correct to play the games on the SNES mini.

        • @Droz: They don't make the games anymore, so how are we supposed to buy them?

        • +2

@Keef: Aren't at least some of these games available for the Wii Virtual Arcade thing (actually not sure what it's called, I don't own one) ? Therefore, they're still selling them. Nintendo fully get to decide how they distribute because they own the IP, right?

I do understand that you're saying they're hard to get, but that doesn't justify what you're suggesting.

And let's be honest, you didn't try to give Nintendo your money for any of these games recently, did you? Do you even have a Super Nintendo? Were you in the market for these games but became frustrated that you couldn't find the cartridges for your 27 year old system? Forced to download ROMs from the Internet because you tried so hard to give Nintendo your money but couldn't?

Actually, I just realised - the answer to "They don't make the games anymore, so how are we supposed to buy them?" is this:
Buy the SNES Classic Mini. That's how you're supposed to buy them.

        • @Droz: Can't play the games I want to play on the SNES mini.

    • Well the Star Fox 2 that comes with this is the completed game, whereas the leaked ROM isn't. Of course, someone will very likely rip the official version when this releases.

    • I'm going with the pi as I can re-use ….. And more variety of games ….Galaga defender etc.

  • +3

    No Chrono Trigger??? #triggered

    • Has other classics :)

  • +2

No Super International Cricket - no deal!

  • +1

"Sorry, is no longer available and needs to be removed. " looks like they arent taking any more!

    • Looks fine to me.

      • you are right, it was my end

  • +3

This is not a bargain, this is an RRP preorder.

  • been rockin SNES on my RPi/retropie many moons ago (along with all the other platforms that were emulated). Twas fun for a bit but got old/lack of time.

  • +2

Why are people negging this but not the EB deal?

    • +2

i think the question is why is anyone negging any of them.

Anyone who isn't new and has a simple understanding of this site knows what happened last time.

All 3 are "announcements" at rrp to be honest.

Someone from one of the stores thinks they have already oversold and are talking second about the second shipment hopes already.

We are a community that helps get deals out in some cases like these until launch nobody knows what will actually happen someone like target might come in and undercut or supply runs dry and people are left moaning about scalpers again.

So as a community we have a choice of 3 options the value is being able to actually get what you want in this case.

    • I don't get it either. They are the same item for the same price. EB just offers a free instore pickup option. Both are massive retailers and seem to be getting a huge amount of preorders. Will they be getting enough stock to fulfill their orders and will they do so fairly? I don't know but I am glad that JB Hifi have ceased taking preorders.

I chose JB Hifi because they had fewer clicks. I am suspicious that the SNES will be oversold on preorders alone.

Nintendo such a shame trying to pocket money from 30+ year old gamers. This is just retro gaming.

Sad to see they haven't put much on new game inventions but want to resale old ideas and consoles.

  • Does anyone know if it would be possible to somehow play 4 player with this?

    • don't know. but secret of mana is the only game on the list that supports 3 players.

  • Buy as many as you can. These will have a lot of value very soon when they stop making them.

    • Yeah like iPhone gs…..new in box

    • +1

Who cares about value. Buy it because you want it and hopefully want to play it, or move on and let someone else have the stock.

      • If you want it, you play it. If you don't, you won't lose money in buying it. Nintendo is tone deaf when it comes to supply and demand. They will intentionally cripple supply for this thing. Just look at NES mini.

They promised there will be more SNES classic minis, but how much more? That's pretty vague. It still won't be enough. For one, a SNES mini is more in demand than NES mini because it will have better games, and they're only making them this year.

I wonder if they will do a N64 mini.

        • I hope they do - mini N64 would be awesome!

        • @fookos:

They will charge a lot more for it. The ROMs are bigger than SNES and NES, which means more storage space needed, which means more money from you.

I would advise you buy this SNES mini even if I don't want it. You never know if you might change your mind in the future, and then will have lost your opportunity to get one. Get it while you can.

  • No,not a bargain. Were this posted in 2020, it might be. But now, No.

  • I have ordered one via JB Hifi rather than EB Games as I think the queue there is too long based on the vote count …..

  • Not a "deal" per se but, eh..

  • Tks op, I ordered 1 unit plus the usb charger together from EBGames as they don't need to be pay in full, only like a $40 deposit. And plus I doubt it will went down in price so the gimmick JB Hi Fi saying to price match any lower will not happen anyway.

    • Furthermore Jb Hi Fi is charge $9.90 for delivery where EBGames only need $5.

      • +1

$6.95 here for delivery with JB here.

        • Maybe it is got to do with where I located.

        • +1

I think it's nothing to do with your location as JB charges a delivery fee for each item in your order, so that AC adapter is $2.95 for the delivery fee.

    • Can it play Starfox 2?

      • To answer your question, yes, as soon as this comes out, someone will rip the rom straight off it, and then you can play that rom on your raspberry pi using an emulator. This machine won't be able to do anything that a pi cant.

    • Then link us to a proper full guide on Rasberry Pi and getting emulators what not. A N00bie guide will help.

  • not sure why it says out of stock because when i just checked it's still available for pre-order
edit: my bad, once added to the cart it says unavailable…

  • +2

    Back in stock.

    • someone else just said the same thing that they had pre ordered or bought online 20 mins ago

  • What's JB's refund policy? Can I cancel anytime before it ships? Help Centre didn't give me a definite answer for pre-orders.

    • +2

I've cancelled orders I've made online from JBHifi many times now. As long as you do it before it ships out. You can check the status of the orders when you login. Click the 'contact us' part under the item and you can select options on what to do with the order.

  • looks like they are back

  • +1

    Showing as Sold Out :(

  • Showing it's Sold Out

    • +1

sorry if you missed out but thanks for letting us know i'll ask Mod to change

      • I already have a couple pre-ordered for myself and one as an xmas gift. Was wondering if I should get a third one! Thanks anyway!

        • +1

i hope they were with different names and addresses accounts or one here and the other at EB

I'd seen a few get cancelled at not sure which store who doubled up not sure what tripped them up but they had started doing correlation checks and cancelling all not just the extra's

  • … and its available for pre-ordering again ….

  • +1

It says its available but when you go to the cart it says its not :(

  • Sold out

  • +1

    Sold Out

"Sorry, Nintendo Classic Mini: SNES Super Nintendo Entertainment System is no longer available and needs to be removed."

  • Looks like they have gone globally with just about everyone who had them up for pre sale.

They are up on ebay already seen them listing for 300 pounds in UK once people started to sell out

couple here on ebay au at 320 + 20 bucks shipping

  • -7

Same price at EB, and delivered for less too. This seems to be the RRP though, so not really a bargain…

  • DEAL IS BACK ON JUST BOUGHT ONE

  • Available again!

  • -3

Can we use our old cartridge?

    • No

  • +1

Appears to be out of stock again

  • Looks like it won't be in stock again anytime soon.

" The page you were after lived a good and happy life, but now it is no longer with us. That's ok though, because we have thousands more that are alive and just as great. "

    • haha is that the statement on the JB page now

refer above though there are loads popping up for sale as verified confirmed orders on ebay with ridiculous prices

"scalpers" and they try to justify their actions as doing people favours, if they were doing that they wouldn't be selling at such a premium

  • The release date has changed from 30th of September to Release Date 31/12/17 on my JB Order Online :/

    • +1

Same just checked mine when i saw your note and i was one of the first to order at JB's

Nintendo are in trouble all around the world Walmart said they had a glitch that oversold by thousands

The Switch went nuts since Splatoon 2 came out they are actually selling the boxes in japan, apparently all priority has been placed on the switch production has been moved to that to keep up with demand it's been out of stock in Japan for 2 weeks and people are selling the Genuine Splatoon bundles for 2k on amazon and ebay
