Android Phone for ~ $250 w/4GB RAM and Quad/Octa Core?

So, I had a OnePlus One which served me well for a couple of years, but now refuses to charge :(

I'm looking for a replacement. Ideally between $200 and $250. Although, for compelling reasons I can stretch my budget to $300 as well.

My main requirements are as follows:
* The 3GB RAM of OnePlus One served me well and I'm looking for a phone with at least 3GB RAM (ideally 4GB).
* Decent chipset: e.g. SnapDragon 820 or SnapDragon 6xx (octa core versions) or equivalent
* I'd be nice if phone has a microSD card
* Screen resolution: same as OnePlus One will do (FHD)

I don't play games on the phone, so gaming performance is not a biggie.

Any ideas? Also, I'd appreciate if you could let me know where to purchase those phones from as well. I currently do have a 10% off voucher for eBay (till 30 June).

Would much appreciate any recommendations. Thanks.

    • I'm sure I read the Xiaomi mi5 has no micro SD card slot, but still a good buy.

The note series does but is more midrange, so maybe have a look at the Redmi Note 4x which is the Snapdragon variant of the Redmi Note 4 (media tek)

  • Perfect! Thank you so much, @scrimshaw

Exactly what I needed. Much appreciated. Having a look at them now.

  • I think the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 4GB/64GB - Global Version fulfils all your needs
    -4GB
    -Good SoC
    -Micro SD
    -FHD

Note: make sure you buy the 4GB and GLOBAL version of the phone (lots of headache flashing English ROM if you get the Chinese one)

  • Thanks everyone for your inputs. I think I'm going to go with ZUK Z2.

Just looking at various places I can buy it from. It's SOLD OUT on the DealExtreme site scrimshaw linked to.

    • The mi5 is a better deal. It's a more stable device, more premium finish as well

      • Thanks again for your suggestions and putting them in a very readable table. My main reasons for considering Z2 over MI5 were more RAM and the build quality (still haven't purchased it). Do you think it'll be wise to go with Mi5 instead?

In the above video around 2 minute mark the guy bends and breaks the Mi5 with his bare hands.

      • Well as an owner of Xiaomi phone, I can say the phone built is not bad. Problem that I had and many of friends as well. the screen glass is easily broke, if you drop them couple times. Other issue I have is I cant find Australia in the settings > Language and Input. Which can cause a lit bit problem with the time. I end up set to UK language and auto set the time to use data otherwise the time will be automatically changed.
