340
OZBARGAIN5

Our new A44 Active Bookshelf Speakers and S6 subwoofer are due for delivery in Early to Mid August.

To celebrate we have the following products on special. All orders come with free shipping to most metro locations. Prices listed below after OZBARGAIN5 coupon code

For beginners: The A44 comes with everything you need to get them working with anything that has a 3.5mm output (your phone / computer / laptop etc..), it comes with all cables necessary. The S6 subwoofer comes with all cables necessary to get it working with the A44. So the A44 + S6 bundle is the simplest way to get a working setup with both speakers and sub.

All of the B44 bundles that include the sub includes everything required to connect the sub to the amp.

If you are buying the S6 sub to connect to an existing amplifier and the amplifier doesn't have a subwoofer output you will need our subwoofer connection kit. This kit is compatible with all of the amps that we sell. To check compatibility with other amps please check with us.

The photos of the new products don't reflect the final release products due to them being prototypes - the final designs may be slightly different.

We have just added a new shipping calculator to our cart - if you believe that the quote given isn't right please feel free to email us to confirm it (for example if you are in a metro area and aren't being offerred free shipping).

Remember to enter the OZBARGAIN5 coupon to get the prices listed above

  • A44 page has a bad link to the B44 bundle - "b44-bundle" instead of "voll-b44-bundle" :)

    • Thanks for that! Fixed.

    needs to have Bluetooth

These Voll speakers are awesome…look at the previous deals on ozbargain for reviews.

Ooooh! Sub Sub!! Cheers CB… however the Sub is appearing as $109.95 at the checkout and the code does't seem to want to work. Displays a 'Sorry, this coupon is not applicable to your cart contents.' error.

    • d'oh! sorry about that, should be fixed now.

  • Any A44 reviews out there? Wondering hows the amp quality like.

  • Hey Chief, any discounts in the B44s standalone (either version)? You had them at $94.95 last time :)

    • +3

Just for tonight only we can offer $15 off the B44 V2 with coupon code B4415 (wont stack with ozbargain5)

      • Awesome - thanks Chief, got me a set!

  • Is there any possibility these come in black? The brown is nice but it does not match my colour theme for my setup.

    • Sorry, only the wood grain unfortunately.

    • +2

It might be worth noting that they are much darker than the pictures indicate (well at least the B44's are). I almost thought they'd shipped me black ones by accident until I realised they only come in one colour and the pictures online are much browner… Anyway might be worth checking them out in person. They are not black, but they are very dark..

      • This is a good point, we hadn't realised how light our photos were until someone pointed it out to us recently and we've tried to get a more accurate image up, it really depends on how bright your room is. We believe the updated image on both the A44/B44 is now much closer to how the speakers typically look.

    • just buy some black vynl wrap from ebay

  • Would the A44's inbuilt amplifier be suitable for connecting to a TV?

Alternatively, if using the B44 with a external amplifier for connecting to a TV, which amplifer would you recommend?

    • It depends on the output of your TV, if you have an analogue output like line out or headphone out the A44s will connect fine, although there are lots of TVs that don't have this and only have optical out. If that's the case you will need an amplifier with optical input. I would recommend the VX2 for that (if you don't need any analogue inputs) or the Q5 if you do / if you want the sub output which doesn't require our sub connection kit.

  • Shipping to Perth for Voll A44 is free, but Voll A44 + S6 shipping costs $6.38

    • +2

Thanks for letting us know. That was a bug, fixed now.

      • Alrite, got the A44 + S6 bundle :)

      • Hey guys, same prob with shipping the combo to Townsville, $6.62. is this correct??

        • Unfortunately that's correct - our courier only offers us cheap rates to metro areas. Everywhere else we subsidise the shipping to make it cheaper but can't make it free.

  • Hi Chief. Nice work, Do you have an image of the underside of the sub?

  • can you give us some information on what chip you use on the powered speaker/sub?

    • +2

They both use the TI TPA3116D2 powered by a 19v 2A adaptor. We rate it at 2x15w on our website but to be honest it's probably quite a bit more given the data sheet rates it as 2x50w @21v.

To increase the power you could use an adaptor anywhere up to 24v with 3-4a.

      • thanks mate. that is a good choice..

  • how's this compared with logitech z623 ?

    • do you have the logitech z623 phunky?

  • I'm curious as to why the previous deal for the B44's without the amp, seems more in demand, compared to this one with the amp (and also the subwoofer package). Did most people already have an amp, or buy an amp separately for future expansion?

    • +1

Fair chance many folks already have an amp.

  • OP I know last time we mentioned we may be able to do something for those that purchased from the previous offer when the time comes to the sub now
I am definitely interested… anything to look after the existing customers?

    • +6

      Hi Reno,

This was certainly our intention, but because it was going to be too hard to target existing customs with an extra deal we decided just to do $5 more off the sub than we had originally planned ($104.95 vs $109.95). The sub is very low profit so it's really hard to do any better.

That said because I did say it this is what I'll do:

Any existing customers that have an order containing the S6 sub since this deal started until tomorrow night I'll go through and issue a $5 refund. (making the total paid $99.95).

I'll send a confirmation email once it's done.

So as long as you are an existing customer (bought speakers or amps for us before with the same email address) and buy an S6 sub or bundle containing it by 11:59pm tomorrow night I'll process a $5 refund.

Sorry that I can't do more - I'd really love to.

Another thing that I will do is after this presale is over - anyone who has bought speakers or amps from us before can contact me for $10 off retail price of the sub, this is for anyone who would prefer not to preorder or misses out on this post.

      • +3

Got mine CB and thanks… but you really didn't have to! Don't sell yourself short, we need you to continue sourcing & selling us the good stuff into the future :)

      • Bought the new S6 and received the refund, thanks CB! (& Jay)

  • Hi OP. Just looking the options with the Sub and wanted to know which was better and why in terms of audio quality :

    1. A44 + Sub combo
    2. B44 (v2) + Sub + SMSL Q5 PRO (Amp)

Will the option 'A' have what it takes to drive the speakers and amp at reasonable volume and quality for PC desktop audio use or am i better off with Option B for $130 more ??

PS: Also, how do these speakers compare to the 'Paradigm MilleniaOne' speakers ?

    Thanks !

    • Option A will certainly be sufficient for desktop audio and decent volumes.

The main reasons I’d recommend purchasing an amplifier bundle is:

-if you require extra inputs / outputs (such as bluetooth / optical input / usb dac / headphone output etc..)
-you require more power than the integrated amp in the A44 (larger room)
-you want to be able to switch between multiple inputs and/or want one master volume
-if you’re considering upgrading to more expensive speakers in the future you can use the existing amp

If none of those are requirements then I'd recommend saving the money and going with the A44 bundle

Regarding the comparison to Paradigm MilleiaOne - they appear to be $2000 speakers so I would hope they were better than our B44/A44, I haven't listened to them so I couldn't say.

  • Looking into different options for a speaker/headphone setup for my PC …

    Has anyone tried this combo?
Schiit Modi 2 Uber (DAC), Schiit Magni 2 Uber (AMP) (using the preamp outputs for the Voll speakers), then the A44 and S6 combo.

    • Headphones - PC > USB > DAC > RCA > AMP > Headphones
    • Speakers - PC > USB > DAC > RCA > AMP (Preamp outs) > RCA > Voll A44 > MONO RCA > Voll S6

Essentially want a somewhat budget and yet flexible setup.

Any feedback on whether this would work fine (sorry not an audio guru) chiefbodge?
(Will be replacing a Logitech Z-2300 setup)

  • Does the S6 subwoofer have auto power off? Or doesn't the Class-D amp need it because it draws so little current when not working?

    • Unfortunately it doesn't have auto power off but as you say class D amps are very efficient (especially at idle). The S6 uses 1.5w at idle and the A44 uses 2w at idle which isn't that much but I personally like to turn everything off at the desk when i'm not using it. There are lots of remote switchable power boards like this that make it really easy

  • Hi, I'm on the lookout for some bookshelf speakers for my turntable. I currently have a Project Essential II + Phono Box E preamp which connect to my soundbar. Seems like the Voll A44 + S6 bundle looks like a good match, just wondering if I'd need the subwoofer kit?

    • Hi Pshumi,

The A44 + S6 bundle has everything you need to connect them together. (It doesn't need the connection kit as the A44s have a subwoofer output, all of our bundles come with the connection kit if needed though).

One thing you should note though is that the volume control for the A44 is on the back of the speaker - it's designed to be set at the highest volume you'd like to listen at and then you control the volume from your source, this may be an issue for you as your preamp/turntable don't have their own volume control.

      • Thanks Chief, looks like I'll need a receiver then.

        Cheers

  • Looks like I will wait for another B44 + Amp special

  • Hi, where is the power switch located on the A44s? Hoping to tuck them away up high but would like to still reach the switch easily.

    • If you look at the photos in the link, you can see it's on the rear of the speaker.

In this case, perhaps it'd be easier having access to the power point and leave the switch on the speaker 'on'.

  • Has anyone tried out the subwoofer with the B44 and can give a review??

    • Unfortunately there wont be as it's a new product and is preorder / will only ship mid august.

For those who would prefer to wait for reviews to come out but are existing customers I can provide $10 off if you email us after release.

We also have a money back guarantee for all of our speakers - just pay $10 for return shipping and you get a full refund no questions asked.

  • This is perfect. I have been looking for a low cost, compact sub to accompany my Voll B44s for so long! Pre-ordered!

  • Hi chiefbodge, can you update us if we're still looking at early-mid August for A44 delivery?

    • +1

Sorry about the delay in responding. At this stage I believe we'll begin sending preorders out on the 11th of August. Will update if anything changes.

  • Hi Op, I am looking to replace my 2.0 speakers for my TV. Was looking at the Edifier R1010BT and the R1280T. Are the Voll speakers really better than the Edifiers?

    • Hi Jeeg,

I haven't personally listened to the R1010BT / R1280T but looking at the frequency response online and looking at some of the photos of the internals my guess is that our A44/B44 will sound a lot better but ideally you'd probably want to hear from someone who has heard both and isn't biased.

      Regards,

      Jay

      • Thanks Op

  • nvm.

    • Hi Jeeg,

The subwoofer connection kit is only for those people who don't have any LFE/pre out on their amp. If you have this then you don't need the connection kit. If you do have pre-out make sure that it's after the volume/gain is taken into account so the sub volume matches the speakers (by the sounds of it it is).

I would recommend if you have both L/R preouts to connect the sub with a 2xRCA cable.

      Regards,

      Jay

      • Thanks. I realize how silly I was to ask that question hence I have deleted it. But you have answered that great. Thanks Op.

  • Hi Op, would the Voll A44 be comparable to studio monitors in roughly the same price range? Studio monitors are also active speakers so what are the differences with the Voll? Genuine question as I am still searching for TV replacement speakers and came across some selling by StorDJ. Thanks!

    • +1

It really depends on the studio monitor in question. Studio monitors are usually designed for nearfield (right next to you at a desk) and a supposed to be revealing and analytical (you can easily hear any issues with the music), they also tend to have inputs that consumer speakers don't need like XLR inputs, and often each speaker is individually powered. That said a lot of the cheaper studio monitors just use the term "studio monitor" as a marketing gimmick (for example the Mackie CR3).

In short - There are some great studio monitors that would work great as regular speakers (JBL LSR305 for example) but generally for home listening it's best to go with products that call themselves powered bookshelf speakers.

      • Thanks Op. Great explanation.

        • Hi jeeg. I've set the volls up on 2 TV sets to date and works great as a 2.0 set up. Hard to find better small bookshelf speakers at this price I think.
Don't watch much TV so haven't bothered with a surround sound arrangement, but looking forward to putting the voll sub into the system.

        • @cornbeef: Thanks mate.

    Hi Everyone,

We have been informed by our shipping agent that our container never got transferred in Singapore to the ship bound for Adelaide (this is quite uncommon so we hadn't allowed for it in our delivery estimates).

The revised shipment date for most orders is the 21st of August, with some orders possibly being fulfilled on the 18th of August.

All affected customers have been contacted regarding this and refunds will be offerred to anyone who can't wait.

    Apologies for the extended delays.

    Regards,

    Jay

    • No worries - thanks for letting us know.
