USD price is significantly (US$26.25) cheaper than the previous deal here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/298027. However the Amazon exchange rate means it's not that much cheaper than prior deal. (Though that deal is labelled expired and this deal actually stock left). If you have a 28 degrees card supposedly you can get a better rate too. Sold by "coldriver20" and Fulfilled by Amazon.

There's of course the significantly more expensive (AU$200) Samsung Chromebook Pro with an Intel Core m3 processor. The Plus has a ARM processor. Both support Android apps.

Biggest weakness is 4gb of RAM. Lots of reviewers bemoan lack of backlit keyboard too. However, good luck finding a laptop with a screen this nice (2400x1600 resolution LED backlit IPS display with "retina" pixel densities of 235 pixels per inch, and 3:2 aspect ratio) at this price point. Build quality, battery life and trackpad are supposedly very good as well.

Chromebooks run ChromeOS and work well for web browsing, media consumption and light office work (via Google docs). This laptop/tablet hybrid also has a stylus for note taking and drawing.

10 in stock left at time of posting, as per OzBargain rules. (non-associated. posted after purchasing for myself and bemoaining lack of anyone posting similar deals for the Plus or Pro in last 3 months).

    • There was a deal posted last month, and the month before
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/samsung-chromebook-plus

How is it? Any major problems?
It's currently at $421 US posted, I think I'm gonna grab one now instead of hoping for $400 US again

      • Have had it for a week so far. Hardware build quality is stunning.

My opinions below may not be relevant to you given my use cases:

Right now, I use it in the use case I bought it for: purely in tablet mode for reading Wikipedia and PDFs. The screen quality is stunning.

Google Keep with the pen is nice, but I'm looking for a better app that goes directly into full screen so I can write notes constantly instead of needing an exercise book. The software could use some optimisations for tablet mode (eg, if you close a chrome tab on Android, it gives you an opportunity to undo it. On ChromeOS only CTRL-SHIFT-T does that, but in tablet mode you can't use the keyboard).

With my large amount of extensions I have seen Chrome crash a few times (I think maybe I keep hitting the X button accidentally?).

I haven't used much regular laptop mode yet. Really liking the system so far, and I think I need to experiment with finding apps that suit my workflow better.

        • Doesn't look like I can edit my comment, but I've confirmed it doesn't crash — I close (and minimise) the browser sometimes in tablet mode. Still crappy the software allows that to occur, but it's not buggy

  • There's of course the significantly more expensive (AU$200) Samsung Chromebook Pro with an Intel Core m3 processor

At that price though you can buy a Surface M3 for significantly less and have tablet/2-in-1-if-you-buy-a-keyboard with Windows 10.

4GB RAM is fine for ChromeOS though.
