Reviews have been pretty good actually

      • +7

music is too subjective to be reviewed

      • -5

That website also has a solid hip hop album in the 70s yet this below average album is 84?

        http://www.metacritic.com/music/the-marshall-mathers-lp/emin…

        probably wouldn't trust this site

        • +4

Yeah it's totally not aggregating many reviewers score together, probably biased! Sad! Fake news!

        • +3

No Stan here but MMLP is certainly worth the praise it gets. Critically and commercially a success. I also take it you've never used the site before.

        • -1

All the Jay Z fanboys got triggered it seems. This is probably better than the album - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_zWdJ88dXo

          @toblerone21:
You reveal you're an Eminem Stan then proceed to link some goofy bogan rapper. I think your opinion on Jay Z is pretty irrelevant.

        • @BlazinPast:

What does your're an eminem stan even mean ? All I said was that it was a solid album and it was rated low compared to the trash album Jay z has just released. You seem to be triggered.

        • @toblerone21: you enjoy MMLP and don't know what a Stan is? Stay uninformed.

        • @toblerone21: I was so convinced this was a Rick Roll!

Do many people think Jay-Z is an overrated artist?

      • +2

        Yea after blueprint

      • -4

He's got catchy music, but there are artists out there who I feel are far more deserving of exposure than him. He's essentially the 90s' version of Drake- except he doesn't try to sing. Also, if biggie hadn't died he would never have gotten the lime light.

        • +4

90s drake? Have you even heard reasonable doubt or blueprint? Both certified classics in the hip hop world.

        • +2

"He's essentially the 90's version of Drake".

What exactly does this mean? I feel whatever way you try and explain this, you'll fail at trying to pass this off as an informed statement.

        • -1

What do you mean deserved? He pretty much forced the industry to respect him by releasing an album every year for like 8 years straight. That was extremely unheard of at the time. He definitely deserved the attention he got, he worked crazy hard to get to where he was.

        • -1

@astrotrain: I never disputed he had good albums. My comparing him to Drake is simply his projectile to superstardom and ability to stay on top is not a reflection of the consistency in his works. As the person above has mentioned, he fell off after the first blueprint album. Sure, he still had catchy songs after which did well on charts, but that's not a measure of quality in my opinion.

        • +1

@Munki: yet the Black Album 2 years after Blueprint is considered a classic in rap culture. American gangster is also up there.

        • +1

@BlazinPast: Meh. Again, just my opinion, but he's a better businessman than a rapper.

Here's a quick short list of artists I rate above him:

          Rakim
          Andre 3000
          Black Thought
          Nas

          Hell, don't forget the Wu.

        • @Munki: fair list

        • @Munki:
i hear you but just like biggie i think jay knew to make club/pop hits you had to dumb things down for the commerical audience. Dont forget the same album that has "H to the Izzo" has "song cry", "u dont know", "heart of the city" etc.

        • @Munki: I could probably listen to Nas and Black Thought rap the dictionary. Best voices in rap.

        please dont say that…. "artist".

    (profanity) Tidal. Spotify4Lyfe

Rather strange that your so passionate about one company that does the same thing as another except it pays more to some artists given that they own it.

      • +2

is it really that strange to you, especially on the internet, that people irrationally defend their purchasing decisions?

      • Spotify didn't build their service on exclusives.

I pay for both Spotify and Google Music, they have/used to have a blanket no exclusive policy.

        • Why pay for both then?!

        • @Bellpop: because lying to try and win an argument on the internet, obv.

        • @jjcf:

Why would I lie about having both, they cost me <$20? Google Music also gives you youtube red, which means ad-free videos, and spotify doesn't allow you to store your own collection. I prefer spotify for doscovering new music.

          FYI Google
          Spotify

    Jay-z is a puppet

  • +1

I wish he would give up with this Tidal shit and release it on Spotify /Apple Music already.

    • agree

    • It's a Tidal exclusive for only about a week, then it should be released on Apple Music as well from what I've read.

      • true but none of his Blueprint albums are on spotify which sucks

        • There's quite a few Apple exclusives too like Compton which is pretty annoying. I would prefer using Tidal purely because it does pay the artist more so why not, but I don't like its curated content and find it a lot more sluggish than Spotify.

  • +1

Rock-a-fella chain but you can still get ethered.

  • Maybe this is why his company is tanking

  • I'm not here because of Jay-Z (don't care less really). I'm here to ask if there is a way to get an extended trial of Tidal or are there promos for it happening at the moment?

Any one in the know, please chime in. Thank you.

  • I

  • Appears to be expired now

    • Yeah, appears to be have expired. Will mark deal as expired.

  • thanks to ozbargain, jayzee is going to quit tidal now.

  • Ether.

Great stuff , alot of his stuff still retains its quality compared to most 2000s music and even alot of newer modern stuff.
