  • Any good coffee places on the list that's worth trying out?

Workshop and Klink are probably two of the best in Sydney. Cafe 259 by Vella Nero would be good because Vella Nero is quality. Never bean there though. Some people like Allpress beans, which might make Benchmark Espresso worth trying too.

It all depends. I would try different places at this price and probably go home wired at the end of the work day ;-)

    • And Sourdough Panini Bakery gets good reviews on Beanhunter, so try them.

Don't forget Hey You charges a service fee now if you pay using credit card or PayPal instead of 'preloading' your account with credit. They introduced this earlier this year (rather sneakily in my opinion).

A true Ozbargainer will use it while this code lasts, and ditch it once the promo is over. Unless you're a frequent user I suppose, and happy to have $50 tied up in your Hey You account.

    • Do you know how much the service fee is?

      • I pay $3.57 on a $3.50 coffee through paypal.

So it looks like a 2% fee if you don't top up your account.

      • 2% is small enough that it may not matter to some - but I was put off by the fact that they introduced the fee without prior notification. I felt as if they were trying to sneak it in hoping most people either wouldn't notice or wouldn't protest.

Interestingly back in Nov 2016 they tried to introduce a fee as well - 3% for AMEX from memory, and a lower percentage for other credit cards. But apparently they received lots of negative feedback and one day later they retracted it. I wonder if this 'quiet' re-introduction is partly a response to that episode?

Either way I've stopped using Hey You. I'm happy to spend the extra few minutes lining up if it means not having to tie up $50 of my cash.

I think you are right about Hey You… they sent me an email saying thanks for telling us that our terms aren't up to date but we don't know if we will change it. That's a sign to me, given that it's so straightforward to add the service fee to your terms, that they are being sneaky. Now, 2% means little if you can save a couple of bucks each time you get a coffee this week. But you are right that in the long term they want your money in their bank and not yours!

  • Annoying that it only applies to new users.

I can confirm that for pay-as-you-go customers Hey You do add a service fee of 2%. Just received email confirmation from their support team.

The service fee is not mentioned in any capacity in their terms, interestingly enough!

The amount being 2% was omitted from the blog post that announced the new fee.
