No More Deposits of Cheques and Cash in ANZ Atms

Looks like ANZ has gone 1 step ahead and removed simple services like cheque deposits in its ATM's . By the way they have introduced brand new ATM machines called smart ATM'S but forget to add those functionality. I called the call centre and they don't have a clue.
Do you guys have same experience?

    Whats a cheque?
    People still use cash?

    • People still use cash?

      scenario one.
we only accept cash. customers wanting to pay with cash are advised to shop across the road where the price is >10% more. they always come back to us, cash in hand saying that the other shop is a rip off.

customers wanting to pay with cash

Do you mean "not wanting to pay with cash"?

        • Heh. You're right.

  • Yes . I have a small business and my customers pay me via cheques aswell

  • Are you sure? I recently (a year ago?) deposited a cheque in an ANZ smart ATM. It was in the new Martin Place branch.

    http://betterways.anz.com/smart-atms

Deposit a combination of up to 50 AUD notes and Australian-issued AUD cheques in one go

Deposit cash6 straight into your account

    It's probably user error.

  • I checked lot of machines today. They have changed them to smart machines and the smart machines don't have deposit options. Even the guys at anz call centre said " unfortunately we don't have those ATM's any more". I have to go to the branch and wait in line to deposit cheques.

This has happened to me before with ANZ's smart ATMs as well. The machines actually do have the capability to accept cash/cheques (there should be a slot for cash out and one for deposits) but sometimes the deposit option doesn't appear. I think the deposit safe is full when this happens because the option would appear as normal on another day. Just try the machine next to it if there are multiple ATMs at that location.

I've got accounts with multiple banks and I've only ever had this issue with ANZ. They've got to be the worst of the big banks in terms of their ATM network, and I've never seen an ANZ coin deposit or cash exchange machine whereas other banks have them everywhere.

  • Doesn't it take alot longer for funds to clear when depositing cheques through an ATM rather than a teller?

    • +1

No. Actually the funds reflec in the account balance straight away.

Reflected as uncleared funds. You won't have access to those funds for three days (or whatever the current clearance time is).

      • Any cheques I bank via the ATM are always cleared and the funds are available immediately. I think it just depends on the setup of your account.

    • No, exactly the same clearing timeframe as a teller.

  • Not sure about cheques but I deposit cash into anz smart atms every month to pay my credit card off (can be different ones). Never had a problem and have been doing it for ages. Funds are cleared funds available straight away which is a bonus.

  • I know this thread is years ago, I went to my local ANZ Smart ATM still has the Deposit Option used to have Cash on the left side now it only has
Cheque the Cash option now has been removed. Are we moving even closer to CBDC it seems that way.
Went in my local ANZ Branch and lucky to get two ANZ Personnel to do transactions from withdrawals and Deposit of Cash.
