Shipping to NY (USA)

Hey, I figure someone out there in the wonderful ozbargain world would have experience shipping overseas (New York), shipping or airmail.

I have to send a parcel ~1kg 15cm x 15cm x 15cm - The prices all seem pretty high, around the $20 AU mark.

Just wondering if anyone had reccomendations/advice.
I know I should get something with insurance and a tracking number but, not sure where the cheapest options would be.

    Auspost sea mail assumingly will be cheapest and slowest. Other couriers would probably get there faster but more expensive. $20 is not bad though.

    i sent a similar size parcel to canada and usa and copped a bit over $22 for them using australia post standard overseas prices, receivers were quite happy with the time frame
