ANyone know if this is any good?

    • Yes, I would like to find out as well. There's only 2 reviews on the website. How can it automatically turn on when the car engine is started? Do you need a cable connected?

      • +1

It includes the charger and cable that plug into the cigarette lighter in the car. Once you turn key the power will go to device and it will automatically turn on/off.

I have one front and one back and had them hard wired at Newcastle Pro Sound and set them to record auto, and power off auto, as well as turn of display after 1 minute so they don't bug you at night. Haven't had to do anything since install apart from retrieve footage. Great investment saved me $$$ already as I had to prove someone hit my car and the G Sensor picked it up and took some nice footage of the culprits number plate.

        • Thanks for the feedback. With the G Sensor how does that work? Do you need to have the engine on for the dash cam to be on and then it will detect motion when car is hit?

        • +1

@spin17: No, you just set it in the menu and when it is off/standby mode and it feels the shock, you can adjust the sensitivity, it turns on starts recording.

        • @mickdrift:
So it has a power supply connection that is always on. Not just from the cigarette lighter that is on only when the car is on.
Or does it need both (permanent on and switched on) like a radio?

        • Does it cost much to have them installed?

  • There are better products on market IMO.

      Any suggestions for $49.00?

I imagine it's about as good as this one, which is about half the price.

    • Wow, that is half the price!

I'm thinking of getting this. It's cheap and if it's crap I can always return it I guess??

My friend had a dashcam that looked very similar to this (from the reject shop), within a month it had this weird night vision effect where everything on the screen was green and black. The dashcam itself felt flimsy but it did the job when it was working. The quality on the screen didn't look that great even though it advertised itself as '1080p FULL HD'. If you want a decent quality dashcam at this price range, I'd recommend the G1W-C or the Viofo A118C which are somewhat highly regarded around here.

    • Yes, spend another $50 and get the A119 or A119S. I have the A119 and it is great. Basic Sandisk/Samsung 64GB card, set it up once and forget about it. I have never had anyone point it out in my car since it's discretely tucked away behind the rear-view mirror. Whenever something interesting happens, I press the crash button and it saves that 3 min block in a separate folder that doesn't get overwritten. Handles the heat well; click on "votes" on neosushi's post to confirm I live in a hot af country.

  • Cool! Can it work without battery and connect cigarettes power only?
I'm worried the battery during summer.

    • Probably not as the battery is there partly to power the camera long enough after power is switched off so that it can finish writing to the card, otherwise you'll probably get corrupted recordings.

If you're worried about the battery get a dashcam with a capacitor instead of a battery, however a battery is better for retaining camera and time settings over a longer period than a capacitor which can be problematic if you don't use the car every day or so. I've had both but only my first very cheap dashcam had a battery overheating and swelling problem, but a capacitor model in my weekend car always lost it's settings because of infrequent use.

Records in AVI (MJPG) which is very space consuming.
